Motorstorm Apocalypse Review thread

1206mb and it has one track with two vehicles (super bike and super car).

Also, yes, it's in 2D and 3D.
Thanks man.
Seems a big ass download for just a track with 2 vehicles, I wonder if they're two different demo "images" one for 2d and one for 3d similar to the Killzone 3 BRD.
Does the game holds the same framerate (rock solid 30fps?) for all resolutions and 3D/2D? Can you play it 1200x1080p in 3D? i don't feel like wasting bandwith on the demo if it's really that bland
Ike you guys are saying, but I'm confident I'll love the sp and couch multiplayer so I'll probably buy it given a couple of weeks after 3DS hit and to recover a bit from that shopping spree.

Just make an EU account, it'll take 5 minutes.

...oh. I already have one >_>
I saw that everyone else was playing the demo and just assumed it was because of codes or something. Thanks :D
Well, if anyone doesn't wanna make a EU account, and wants a code to play the demo, send me a PM.
I'm guessing it'll be up when the PS Store updates later today.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Sony/Evo would go for a pretty aggresive advertising on this. But it releases here tomorrow and I'm yet to see a single advert in any media..

My copy was sent yesterday so have high hopes I will play tonight. Sweet.

after the earthquake i don't know if anyone in his right mind would market aggressively a title about destructed cities and natural calamities...

You should have seen Eurogamer last week. It was like a Motorstorm tribute site.

Maybe so.. not that I don't feel for them :'( but that was/is half-way around the globe from here, and there have already been around 1000 earthquakes globally this year if I read the statistics right.

And all stupid wars that is ongoing all over but still war-games is sold in millions every year?

Well, really bad timing for Evo though :\

After reading this I'm convinced it won't be as good as Pacific Rift.
Aside from the fact that the urban city setting doesn't quite interest me as much as crazy lava tracks, jungle tracks etc.. the racing just didn't feel quite as good and the explosions of shit just confused me as to where to go.

You shouldn't be reading, you should be playing. PR was criminally underrated as well. If you learned anything from that it should be that you need to experience it for yourself.

PR was confusing as well. I let my friends play PR and they weren't even able to find the right route to the finish line. The fun in PR began once you mastered the controls and learned the courses. It needed some time to show it's fully potential regarding gameplay AND graphics (the first time I played it I thougt it was ugly, now I think it's one of the best looking games this gen).

I even wouldn't judge from just one track and one specific car out auf 13 (?) classes how the driving feels. If anything, it's more or less the same, just with more grip on tarmac. And the moon physics are toned down. Maybe you should play PR neck to neck with the demo because that's really an eye opener.

And Split/Second is probably better as far as destruction/urban theme goes.

Why? How?

word has it that it's floating about on torrents right now, how i have no idea..

It's already out there, for sure, so no wonder that there are torrents. However shops aren't supposed to sell it. Sony wants them to send the game back.

That's so goddamn stupid. I feel so sorry for those in Japan. Don't get me wrong. However the game was set to release long before this shit happened and it's a fun little racing game. It's not like you are playing a character trying to survive a tsunami, earthquake, nuclear plant meltdown, etc.

I swear to god if they delay it in the US here because of what happened in Japan then they've lost a sale.

Got my copy in the mail yesterday. Played for about 4 hrs, 60% completion. Up to now it's been a breeze to come in first place.

Some pretty varied tracks, from highways to rooftops. But thought there would be more destruction. A little bit disappointed about that so far.

Loading times are loooong. But restart a race happens instantly.

Couldn't test online or leaderboards, servers wasn't up yet.

That Boardwalk-race with the hurricane is frantic!

Like the idea with those cards to collect on each stage, a bit like the billboards in Burnout. Missed most of them so there must be a lot of routes to discover yet.

OK, I'm seriously impressed with this game. It's really, really awesome. Feature pack is incredible. Collectibels, progressive trophies etc. The entire presentation is awesome, the cutscenes are drawn incredibely well. I like the handling A LOT and I think the boost part is done better than than in Pacific Rift.

Really, don't miss out on this game. It wasn't even on my radar and I'm shocked at how good it is and how they managed to create an awesome atmosphere around pure racing.

Also, the graphics and art style are in my opinnion, better than in Rift. Motion blur is absent, but everything else is great. Poor explosions from low res alpha in Rift has been resolved. I'm playing on a 720p display, so I imagine it looks even better on a Full HD screen.

Yeah, it absolutely feels like Motorstorm.
Hoping for a patch quite soon, sound overall must be higher but most of all the engine sounds. They should know about this, we were many that pointed it out during the private beta.

Agree about sound, it's really puzzling. I usually play my games on 16-25% volume. I had to boost it all the way to 40% to get acceptable volume.

Lagspike, are you sure the motion blur's gone? I thought it was still in the demo but severely toned down (i.e. only noticeable when you panned the camera very fast).

Motion Blur is definitly still there. Noticable when you are driving with hood cam. Also in the demo.

It's there, but noticeably reduced. Think Killzone 2 --> Killzone 3.

I love how commonplace it is to just overlook these great games and give them okay reviews based solely on a separate grade scale. Attention is more popular than accurate reviews and it really makes the industry seem petty in ways. No way is this game a 7. No Motorstorm is a 7.

Got the game today, really enjoying it so far! I don't really like the urban environments as much as I liked the jungles and volcanoes in MSPR, but other than that it's good old MS fun! I'm still at the early stages, so I'm expecting the destruction to get more chaotic along the way.

Got the patch when I fired the game up for the first time, no idea what it does.

EDIT: Holy shit, just played the "Skyline" track. That's one of the most epic and action-packed tracks I've ever played in a racing game. Brilliant!

The demo track stands as the least interesting one so far. I sure wonder why they chose that one for the demo, when there are loads of much more awesome tracks in the game...

See I just don't get what the hell they are thinking releasing a demo of one of the worst tracks in the game every damn time. It never fails either. It's like they don't want their game to sell.

The Skyline track is an instant classic. Love it.

For those who have the game, can you still play the tracks in different times of the day (morning/evening/...)? And did they fix the soundmix? You hardly hear the car engine in that demo.

Impressions would be most welcome too since i'm still on the fence.

Alright, I have played a couple of tracks now. My impression so far is; fantastic.

The demo track is BY FAR the worst one so far, and I still liked that one. The other stages, especially the first race you have in Skyline, is jaw-dropping.

I would dare calling this game one of the best-looking and technically-proficient games on the PS3 without hesitation. There's SO much shit going on in some of the stages, and all without dropping many frames. Just gorgeous.

Can't speak much about the soundmix so far, but the volume is generally low so you'll have to bump it up compared to your usual settings.

As far as the tracks go, I don't see any time of day settings per se unfortunately, but every stage seems to have different variations (and obviously the ToD changes). On some variations, you can also choose if environmental incidents occur or not, which is sweet. The game seems to have 3-4 variations for every stage so far, and I dunno if tracks have to be unlocked or not.

EDIT2:

The tracklist in Wreckreation so far:

Boardwalk: 3 variations (1 incident)
Docklands: 4 variations (1 incident)
Downtown: 4 variations (2 incidents)
Good Herb: 4 variations (2 incidents)
Interstate: 4 variations (3 incidents)
Mainline: 3 variations (2 incidents)
Skyline: 3 variations (3 incidents)
Terminus: 4 variations (2 incidents)
Upper Bohemia: 4 variations (1 incident)

So I guess I'm confused... I understand delaying the game in Japan, even if I think it's silly to do so. But why delay it in the UK?

I doubt they want to market the game while Japan is still front page news.

When you say variations, do you mean there are 9 environments and within those, there are 3 or 4 'tracks' set in or around those areas? Or do you mean there are 9 tracks and when shit goes down it just changes the track up as you race?

Actually, I don't know what I mean yet because I haven't tried Wreckreation so far (and I doubt I can play anymore tonight). But it seems to be proper variations of a stage so far (that is, completely different routes), since I'm sure I've played 2 variations of that Upper Bohemia level and they were very different. So for now, yes, 9 main environments, and then different stages in them.

Skyline is FUCKING amazing. This game is FUCKING amazing. Anyone who gave this game 7 is clueless about meaning of word "fun". This game is a gem of arcade racing. If you like racing games in the slightest, GO BUY THIS IMMEDIATELY. It's mindblowing how this game got these low scores. Believe, This is arcade racing done right.

While I generally dislike hyperbole, my first time with this game has been incredibly fun, so I honestly agree with you. I loved Pacific Rift, but so far, everything points to this being several times better. If anything, the only thing that can put a damper on my enthusiasm is if the rubberbanding turns to shit later on.

Hm, the impressions I read so far, particulary on german boards, are very negative. Metaciritic is down to 77%.

However, I don't care for them. There are to many people bringing arguments that they don't like it saying "this is no motorstorm" or whatever. Motorstorm is whatever the devs want it to be. And the second thing is, once again it seems like trying something new is NOT appreciated. Some of those people who are critisising MS:A probably just wanted some PR DLC. I don't know, getting my copy tomorrow. Can't wait.
