MotorStorm review [Gamespot]

Neat review

The Good: Core racing design is a riot; online multiplayer is a great deal of fun; superb visuals; great soundtrack and sound effects.
The Bad: A shallow package with only one (not very good) single-player mode; no offline multiplayer.

Motorstorm is a good game that also feels like it has a great deal of untapped potential. As an over-the-top, gorgeous-to-look-at racer, Motorstorm is absolutely a success. As a deep and lasting experience, it's far from it. The question, then, is what's more important to you? Is it of greater import to you that a game feature great racing mechanics and incredible graphics, features be damned? Or does a deep array of lasting modes and features make or break a game for you? If you answered yes to the former, then Motorstorm is unequivocally the game for you. If you answered yes to the latter, pay consideration to just how much you're going to get out of a solid online mode and a cheap-feeling single-player mode that you'll probably never go back to once you finish it. Either way, here's to hoping that the next time around, Evolution turns in a more fleshed-out experience to go with its great game design.

7.9

Such a low rating because he couldn't find enough to do on there? The racing is fun and addicting. I'm sure, with time, it'd get old. But don't most games?

Sounds like the casuals are gonna eat this up

Sign me up.

I remember Wipeout (1) getting dinged for a lot fo the same reasons (too hard too fast, no multiplayer on a single console, few tracks).

Personally not surprised, however I understand the impending GAFsplosion that this thread will become.

I think a lot of this game's credit is going to come from the online play. A lot of reviews are pointing to a generally weak single player campaign.

That being said, I can really see this game being incredible online.

Phil Harrison must be pissed. I hope there's alot of DLC coming to patch this game up to snuff.

Free DLC, i might add.

MotorStorm is gonna be a prime example of how few people really consider review scores when purchasing a game. :lol

It'll sell great because of peer pressure and the lack of competing titles. That's why so many early 360 titles sold well AMIRITE?

I'm surprised no one has said "so basically, it's no better than Mario Kart: Double Dash"

sucks for me if they made that a bannable phrase :-/. And yes, I know IGN rated MK

Hmmm. I'm still getting it.

But I did order an extra pair of launch window goggles just in case! [/spolier]
Meh, it'll still be crazy fun and visually spectacular mud racing. Most of the reviews seem to agree on that the game itself is quite great, it's just a matter of what's there. Or rather, what isn't there. I can live with it, because after having suffered through the dull ass street racers that next-gen has given us so far, I need this type of racing game real bad. I do wish it had split-screen and quick race options though. :/

It'll sell great because it looks ****ing amazing and spectacular, and because it's so far the only next-gen racer of its kind.

Last time I checked, 7.9 is a solid score.

People always expecting hyped up games to get a 9+ are ludicrous.

Downloadable demos for the win.

...for the ****ing win.

I guess my next question would be how the heck does Gamespot and 1up give it a 7.9 and 7.5 respectively while IGN gives it an 8.9? That is a pretty big gap their. Who's right?

Honestly, among us board clowns, a 7.8 would probably have been preferable to 7.9. You simply do not give a game, and certainly not a racing game, a 7.9.

There's this deja vu feeling I get when reading Motorstorm reviews, sounds a bit like VF5... Solid core game, but half-baked where in comes to just about everything else.

Oh god. I better stay away from System Wars over there for a little while or my head will explode.

Gamespot is so spastic with their reviews. They gave FOne: CE a 7.2 (which was feature packed, beautiful, and an extremely satisfying game), but then they go around and outweigh the negatives of Motorstorm (lack of maps, vehicles, offline MP, etc) and seem to give more value to that than the positives. Somehow the more shallow and lacking racer (their words, paraphrased) is better than the one packed with features from top to bottom? This logic escapes me. IGN is guilty of this, too. Gamespot did the same with VF5 and Motorstorm.

When I played the demo (which I wasn't the biggest fan of gameplay-wise) it still gave me that awesome "only available in the arcade" feel I used to get in the 90s.

It's like the latest MODEL 3 racer just came out in the arcades and there's a 100% perfect home version day one. Does that make any sense to anyone?

Honestly, if u didn't buy a PS3 for Resistance, there is nothing out there that's worth more at the moment.

This review pretty much convinced me to pick up the game because I was only really interested in the online portion. I tend to get bored of single player in racing games, and tend to abandon it for the online portion almost immediately, so it won't really bother me too much if the single races are lacking.

How was VF5 half baked? oh...the online again? :/

*sigh*
