This part really reminded me of Stunt Car Racer when I played it. Great fun.

Gamespot can claim that 7.9 = GOOD all they want, but it doesn't stop the noobs from coming in here and spamming "BAIL OUT" pics.

Since when single player modes are THAT important for an fun ARCADE game.
I mean, the lack of SP content should drop the score of course, but that much, I don't get it.

Who here spent more time doing cups and time trials in MK, than playing battle modes (4 arenas, never forget) with a bunch of friends ?

It's a good score, better than I might have expected given the 1up review (I figured GS would be at least as hard on it). The thread reactions are hilarious :lol

The core gameplay is excellent, but it wouldn't be right to totally ignore the lack of modes. How a site will score it will depend on how they weight the former versus the latter. Personally I think it was worthy, and I had the Japanese purchase..

GameDaily has their review up. Scored it an 8.

"Not enough racing maps and too few in-game options mar the game's overall outlook but in spite of these blemishes -- getting dirty never felt this good."

My urge to buy a PS3 is increasing. Ignoring the 7.9/7.5 reviews, this game looks to be highly entertaining.

Resistance
Motorstorm
Heavenly Sword
Virtua Fighter 5
R&C5

All titles already released/coming out in the next few months. Boy am I excited! Throw in some MGS4, and man!

But I don't have 600 dollars.... [face_cry]

"didn't you get the Sony web update? since Alien Hominid HD came out, flash games on consoles are now "shit" ! ;)"

Hmm... urge to post pictures... can't resist...

He did a German lol 7.

8 tracks seems ok to me if they're as good as the demo track. They just needed more options for setting up your own single player chaos.

Anyone want to trade this for mlb2k7?

OMG, DC glam cam shots making it hard to resist urge to buy now...

"That's right, bitches. And behold you will know I have sent Resistance out to die when I pimp a game more incessantly that barely manages 8.0 scores."

lol
Such an uproar for a score...

Motorstorm is an awesome single player. You know it got 7.9 because it's missing some features but you still can play online.
The score doesn't represent the quality of the game depending on what you're looking for.

Honestly tho, each track "plays" differently depending on the vehicle you are given. So saying the game has just 8 tracks is not totally fair.

Did you finally get yours btw?

Yes, and I discovered I need PCI Express slots... which my old MB doesn't have :/

I'm buying a new PC in a matter of weeks.

So what exactly are reviewers complaining about?
Hmmm.. Lets see.
Too frustrating? Grow some balls.
Not enough tracks? what the hell do you want? 100 tracks? 8 is more than enough. Wipeout 2097 - the greatest game ever - only has 8 tracks.
Trucks are boring to drive because they have slow acceleration? Use your eyes and dont crash, morons!
If the single player mode does get frustrating then switch to online multi for a while. Simple.
From all the reviews and videos which i've seen the game looks tremendously fun and the reviewers agree, the only thing that i would knock off points for is it's lack of Time Trial mode. Excluding TT was sheer stupidity by the developers but hopefully they'll patch it. But i doubt it.

I wish some of you would either wait to play the full game or read more than score and bullet points before either hopping on the bandwagon or chasing after it with torches and pitchforks.

Your are new to GAF right?

lolz ;)

I'm sure this has probably been answered, but does playing single player unlock anything for use online in mp or are all the vehicles and tracks immediately selectable?

You unlock vehicles skins offline. All vehicles types are available from the beginning online.

But this is the process we use to determine whether or not to spend the $60 in the first place!

well i'll be making my own impressions tomorrow when i pick it up and hopefully play with some of you guys.

i'll be a bit disapointed if it's not worth buying a PS3 for, cause i kinda already did that... but hey, it's a great blu-ray player at the worst, and Casino Royale is out next week so that'll cheer me up.

hopefully though i'll enjoy it as much as i did the demo, and the online situation won't be too much of a pain.

And understandably so. That's why people should actually read the the reviews and read the impressions and understand not just that it gets hard but why that's a problem in this instance (because it's bullshit getting overtaken in the final stretch after three perfect laps). Not just that there's a lack of content, but the pacing of which introduces every vehicle type and all but the last two tracks within the first ten events.

It just seems that some of the posts in here are based off the bullet points, not the reviews themselves. Of course, some of that blame lands on the reviewer's as well.

oh, I hate when racing games have that broken AI in single player :(

This post needs more blind fanboy juice, it's a bit dry

i remember after finishing the getaway there was an extras thing on the menu so i was like :O. it was just the endingcredits :lol

Some of you guys are being way too harsh on this game...

Yes, it's flawed, but at times, it's among the most thrilling experiences you'll have in modern gaming. The 7.5-8.0 scores are in the proper range, but some of the actual talk around here makes it seem as if that is extremely generous. What the hell happened to enjoying a game for what it was? There have been all sorts of great racers lacking in features. Also, sure, the game becomes cheap (the AI), but that doesn't mean you can't enjoy the previous races. It almost seems that people are playing these games just to complete them rather than enjoying the races themselves. Everybody is obsessed with achievements these days and I'm growing sick of them. The whole concept of playing simply to unlock features or reach a certain point just blows my mind. What's the point in gaming if you are only interested in reaching the end? Enjoy the moment, not the end result!

That's not to say that I believe a game lacking in features deserves a perfect score. The reviews handed out to Motorstorm are perfectly accurate, I'd say (and, yes, I own it). It's an extremely good game that is lacking in key areas. It isn't as good as some may have hoped nor as bad as people seem to be suggesting.

Someone needs to tell evolution that MANY WANT/NEED the Dune Buggy (yellow top, thanks), I cannot say it enough... is someone out there at Evolution Studios listening ?!?

Right, it's basically GAF due process for testing the convictions of those who have played the game in the early stages.

the GAF scoring system, so here's a handy guide:

10 = Passable
9.9 - 9.5 = Good enough to bring up in other, unrelated threads
9.4 - 9.0 = Meets expectations, tear up the suicide pacts, etc.
8.9 - 8.0 = Bomba
7.9 and below = TEH SUCK

:lol :lol :lol :lol
