Or....Lifetime to the rescue.

The idea that Lifetime would just pick up Hannibal as its Clarice show would be the most insane and kind of hilarious thing ever. I would love for it to happen, but no way they'd shell out the money with the content and current ratings of Hannibal. Even with the help of the international investors, I don't think they could do it.

I'm just waiting for the new seasons to hit Amazon Prime like I'm sure a lot of you are. So I'm part of the problem. I don't watch broadcast tv but rather just wait for my favorite shows to hit streaming.

Unless you have a Nielsen box, your viewing habits are irrelevant to the ratings.

Not surprised but I have faith it'll get picked up elsewhere. Only real concern I have is if they'll be able to keep the production cast and crew essentially the same with a similar level of quality, but I'll try to be optimistic there too.

Holy shit.

It'd be amazing if Lifetime picked it up with no content restrictions.

Have you watched Lifetime? They technically have no content restrictions, but that network's current demographic and content would in no way tolerate even what NBC Hannibal shows. There is some minor violence in their original movies, but nothing crazy.

I must say, I am very displeased, particularly considering what we were on the verge of in season four.

In saying that, it's understandable given the abysmal ratings. It's a miracle we got to where we did, and at least, following from where we are, the existing material is enough of an 'ending' (that is, Silence, not the movies which followed) to sate us should it not find its home elsewhere.

EDIT: Oh my god, the idea of Lifetime picking up the show and allowing us to get the Silence treatment that is deserved. That would be glorious.

I hate whoever thought it'd be a good idea to sell off the streaming rights to Amazon. Not only did they kill a huge possible audience from Netflix but now Netflix won't be able to fund more seasons.

I guess Amazon could do a season 4 but nothing coming from them has looked anywhere near good.

For the new page: NBC really isn't to blame here. They did everything they could, and Fuller would likely say the same. Fuller has always praised NBC for how great they have been to work with and how much they have helped the show.

It is interesting that this possibly came from some kind of licensing/rights dispute re: Clarice Starling, but like ivysaur has said, it just doesn't make any sense. Fuller has not had any problem with creating surrogate characters or cleverly taking SotL characters and repurposing them--it's weird to think that a dispute with Lifetime would lead to this.

NBC wasn't paying any of the production costs, so I doubt there would be many changes.

One of the best shows on TV. I'm disappointed in you, America.

This should be in the OP, but I guess we should expect more "FUCK NBC" drive-bys.

Wow

This is literally the best show on TV and they cancel it. Damn.

I really hope someone else picks it up. Its a rare gem where every episode is just so good but yea it doesn't really belong on tv. This needs some place like HBO or Showtime.

This is disappointing and sad, though not as sad as I thought it would be. Maybe it's because everyone involved is downright cheerful about the news, which makes me think that its pickup somewhere else is inevitable?

I can't even be that mad considering how long it lasted on NBC in the first place. Hopefully someone else picks it up :(

I've heard nothing but good things about this show. Sadly if it's not singing or dancing America doesn't care

This was expected for me. I was really surprised NBC got in on S3 and have been promoting it as heavily as they are. I don't blame them for canceling it, though. Given the show's unique funding, I'm confident it'll get at least 1 more season elsewhere.

This was my thoughts as well. Amazon already made the deal for streaming rights, and they clearly have the money to pitch in to actually make S4. It would make a bit of sense to have a big new prestige show to draw attention to their original content as well.
I was beginning to wonder how and why S3 showed up on Hulu recently.

It's miraculous that we got seasons 2 and 3. Unfortunately the ratings reached a point where not even NBC could ignore them any longer. It definitely should go to cable or Netflix/Amazon.

Hopefully Hannibal will find a new dining table, but if not I'm more than satisfied with the course we got.

Like said, it was really a television miracle that it got as far as it did.

I worry about the show's look being affected if it's done elsewhere, but I don't really know how much of the budget is actually ponied up from the overseas funding we hear about. Either way, fingers crossed it lives a second life.

Hasn't the most recent season always been there? I believe that Hulu gets whatever the current season is due to their large scale deal with NBC while Amazon has rights to all past seasons. I don't believe S1 or S2 are on Hulu Plus, which would sort of confirm that.

Wherever it goes, I hope it doesn't end up on a ratings thirsty network (like HBO). It needs to go somewhere where it doesn't have to worry about ratings, so probably streaming.

This is correct.

fuck fucking fuck
This is probably my favorite show, and yes I'm surprised we even got a 3rd season, but it still hurts even if we all saw it coming.

I really, really hopes it gets a second life elsewhere. If Community could do it, Hannibal easily can.
