It does look like a high quality LCD:
it's been reported this is an edge-lit LCD screen, which is the worst kind for HDR.
That's BS or total incompetence. Hdr is much better on OledI read somewhere they went with LCD because they couldn't calibrate HDR colors correctly in an OLED screen or something among those lines, when someone asked them about it in the event
True ...though 30 on Oled isn't as bad on these small handheld screens. They should've at least provided us the damn OPTION though. Since the screen can do 120hz, 40 fps would feel quite smooth on Oled handheld30fps games look like total shit on OLED, and since it's clear most of the current gen 3rd party ports will only be 30-40 frames, this is the right call for now. OLED needs a minimum of 40 hz for decent motion clarity, 30 is just headache inducing.
Nintendo don't have a bunch of other big divisions outside of gaming to bring in the cash like Sony and MS do, gaming is their bread and butter, taking a loss on every console sold isn't as viable for them as it is for other larger companies.Or they just could take a loss from the hardware like any other platformholder
To be honest I'll probably double dip and upgrade when an OLED model releases. I'm definitely going to be part of the problem. I love playing games on the OLED switch. For the double dip with the midgen refresh with OLED better battery and more storage, also corporate greed.
What sucks is now I can't trade in my Oled switch to both offset cost of Switch 2 AND not have to play games on multiple Switch consoles when I want to play one of the many shmups, pixel art games, and 2d games, or any game that tends to really shine on an oled. It's the 2d stuff that's colorful or games like Thousand Year Door, Octopath Traveller 2 that look so good on Oled. Ironically, large 3d games don't pop as much as I expected them to on Oled.To be honest I'll probably double dip and upgrade when an OLED model releases. I'm keeping my OLED Switch for similar reasons. There are a few games that I just don't want to play on any other screen. I would pay more for an OLED option on Switch 2. And ....battery life! Why couldn't they have done the right thing and offered an OLED model as an optional, more expensive Switch 2 for the people that wanted it?? We all know why it just pisses me off
Stole my answer…they want to sell it to you again people. For the double dip with the midgen refresh with OLED better battery and more storage, also corporate greed.
Boom! It's not about costs but their profit margins, which are - surprise - the highest in the industry
Yep 110%Nintendo is the worst gaming company. They might make good games but they're a bunch of greedy assholes
Don't pretend Nintendo subsidizes the hardware.I mean some people are already whining about the price, they had to keep costs down somehow
As an OLED supremacist, I think it actually looks pretty good. As long as the brightness is there I don't care.Due to pure stinginess on the part of Nintendo and then selling the OLED version again to its fan base, it's ridiculous that the OLED Switch looks better than the Switch 2.
They did for the WiiU at launch and the 3DS post price cut.Don't pretend Nintendo subsidizes the hardware.

And guess what they replaced it with in the second (and last) revision.Meanwhile Vita, released in 2011, had OLED.
It does look like a high quality LCD:
This is the big question. I have both LED and OLED but with enough dimming zones I'm not really concerned about OLED as superior, it's just an option at that point.Sooo how many dimming zones?
Digital Foundry
So it's most likely will be garbagewere pretty positive
that same john will sing "oled switch 2 is such a game changer" in about 2 years.I was just listening to the Digital Foundry take on the screen, and their impressions (or guesses since they haven't gone hands-on) were pretty positive. I'm excited about the VRR and HDR, if the panel is decent.
Color me cautiously optimistic.
I'm more than fine with not having to worry about burn-in on the screen that's permanently attached to the system.

Never said they did; unlike MS/Sony they don't have a bunch of other major divisions bringing in the big bucks, so taking a loss on every console isn't worth it for them.Don't pretend Nintendo subsidizes the hardware.
