Gaze upon Chobel's...Gaze upon Rex's tag and despair!!
So first, MS wrote that they had "record breaking sales" and we are assuming by record breaking they are comparing it to last year since the Xbox One has only had 1 black friday period prior to this one that just passed.
The asterisk clarifies that the period is between Nov. 21-27, and generally when you compare things to announce that a new record has been reached, you would need to compare two identical periods. For example if you said "Sales in November were record breaking compared to March" that would make absolutely no sense.
So we can only assume that they are comparing sales between Nov. 21-27, 2014 versus Nov. 21-27, 2015.
The problem with that is Black Friday was on November 28, 2014, but it was on November 27, this year, so the "record" that they broke seemingly didn't include Black Friday which would account for a huge amount of sales, moreso than all of the other 7 days prior combined.
tl;dr version: MS apparently compared a week of sales including Black Friday this year versus a week of sales last year not including Black Friday sales. Of course it would be recording breaking. So while technically they are comparing two identical periods (based on date) it would be misleading. If Black Friday 2015 really beat out Black Friday 2014, they should have just stated that instead of Nov. 21-27.

When is NPD??
So what are we expecting?
IF this ends up being accurate and they are down YoY on Black Friday that is some next level bull shit PR. It is so misleading its unbelieve.
Then again thats what the PR team gets paid for
Yeah I'm pretty certain the figures will show that they were comparing the week leading up to BF for both years.
What we won't find out is what they sold on Black Friday 2014 vs Black Friday 2015.
Makes perfect sense they sold less this year on that particular day though. Deals weren't as good compared to PS4 this year versus 2014 where PS4 refused to drop price. MS didn't do the crazy stacking of discounts and bundles they did in 2014. But the overall lower price of $299 (before retailer giftcards and whatnot) for more days than just Black Friday would account for a bigger week total than last year.
Nevermind.
Looks like Halo 5 digital sales are almost 30%.

Wow, he says that the first week Attach Rate for Halo 3 on 360 was about 50% and the Attach Rate for Halo 5 on the Xbox One is about 15%. Remember, there were around 1.8 million more XboxOnes sold in the US at the time of Halo 5 than there were 360s at the time of Halo 3.
I just cannot believe that. That attach rate drop is just too large for the flagship title.

15% AR for Halo?!???! Why the hell did these people buy XB1s then?
They saw Titanfall, but their Destiny was to go to the PS4.
Lol. Beaten. I was going to type "Have you seen Titanfall?"They saw Titanfall, but their Destiny was to go to the PS4.
Halo = Dead
Simple really.

If think that a lot of people wouldn't buy it day one or first week even for fear of it being broken like MCC15% AR for Halo?!???! Why the hell did these people buy XB1s then? I assumed most the people picking up XB1s were doing so in anticipation of Halo. I guess I was wrong.

Update 3:
#9 / WIU: Mario Kart 8 (↓5)
#14 / PS4: Star Wars Battlefront (—
#24 / XB1: Gears of War Ultimate edition (↓2)
#30 / PS4: Uncharted the Nathan Drake collection (↓4)
#53 / XB1: Holidays bundle (↓4)
#86 / 3DS XL (↑1)
#99 / XB360 Peggle (NEW)
A bit consideration: how is possible that the Uncharted bundle is always in TOP 10, most time in TOP 3 in the hourly, but in the monthly it continue to drop and drop? Now at #30...
This is what I genuinely don't understand. Forza sales are slowing down, Gears is only a remaster, Titanfall wasn't the next COD it was made out to be, Sunset Overdrive and RotTR were bombs, and Halo 5 is a shadow of what the franchise used to be.
So why are people actually choosing to buy an XO over the PS4? Is it just marketing, or national pride in the US for an American company? Simple ignorance of the power difference and bigger library on the PS4?
I'm not trying to be a console warrior here. I get why people who love Xbox exclussives would buy one, the appeal to enthusiasts of backwards compatibility and people wanting to play with friends or with their prefered controller. It's safe to say anyone on this site that's choosing to buy one absolutely knows why they would want one, and have fully informed opinions on it's merits.
But for the great unwashed masses. People who just want COD and FIFA/Madden, why are they getting XO's, when it's clearly not for the thing that most sets it apart from the otherwise stronger competition.

They bought MCC.

What i can't believe is HOW is the 360 in this chart.![]()
Honestly I think to some extent, MS's own strategy for marketing the Xbox One early on played into this. When they tried to market it as the TV TV TV NFL TV NFL box, I think quite a few people bought it for exactly that, whereas the 360 early on was strictly games, games, games.
If think that a lot of people wouldn't buy it day one or first week even for fear of it being broken like MCC
I wonder if it breaks 3 mill by the end of the year. It has to be over or at least at 2 by now

360 in the US was probably the most sucesseful console ever, that thing was a freaking beast.
When the polling said the primary driving factor in purchasing an XB1 was "brand" I assumed it meant like the brand name first party content. But it appears it was literally the Xbox brand itself. Apparently it sill carries a lot of weight in the states.
PS: Aquamarine, if you read this, I think we should dedicate this upcoming thread to you. Wherever you are, Godspeed!

For the most part it was probably the cheapest way to play gta, cod, madden etc

I bought mine as a secondary console at launch for titanfall.
They mostly had the 360 so a good amount are just sticking with the brand they know. They can carry over their achievements, their accounts, and stick with a controller they are familiar with.
some people are just used to the ecosystem, as silly as it may sound, it is a factor.
Things like promotional pricing and game bundles would explain a lot. None of those comments on the status of the exclusive franchises are really criticisms of game quality, even taking them all at face value. That's a lot of well received titles in one place for people to react to. And the stronger platform competition is outperforming the XB1. The market seems to be acting the way you'd expect, with the PS4 firmly leading sales because it's more bang for the buck. Do the XB1 sales seem too close, for how you're seeing the market?
Also, "unwashed masses"? My goodness.
When the polling said the primary driving factor in purchasing an XB1 was "brand" I assumed it meant like the brand name first party content. But it appears it was literally the Xbox brand itself. Apparently it sill carries a lot of weight in the states.
Also I did briefly consider calling them 'snivelling oiks' instead. I can change it if you think that would be better?
YES.
It was about Halo 5's attach rate and the implication of Destiny taking Halo players. Where does 360 to PS4 people going to Destiny on PS4 come in at?Just the usual Halo is dead thread. Of course 360 guys who switch to PS4 jumped on Destiny. I mean what was their alternative? Killzone?
360 in the US was probably the most sucesseful console ever, that thing was a freaking beast.
That's insane. So Halo 5 must be at 2-2.5m at this point. I think it will hit 4 to 5 million in total, so anywhere between half to one third of general Halo game.Looks like Halo 5 digital sales are almost 30%.

Oh, I wholeheartedly agree, but it seems that's precisely what they've done. Notice that when they say the examined period is November 21st-27th, they don't specify 2015. If they examined different date ranges in different years, they'd need to specify that they were referring to 21-27 in 2015 and 22-28 in 2014. But they didn't say that. They could've also described it as "The Saturday through Friday that surrounds Thanksgiving," but they didn't say that either. They said they were talking about Black Friday week, which was being defined as Nov 21-27 — again, not Sat-Fri — and comparing it to "the same period last year." (emphasis mine) So they say pretty explicitly they were looking at 21-27 in both years.Microsoft is going to compare a 7 day period that goes from Friday to Thursday in 2014 to a 7 day period that goes from Saturday to Friday in 2015?
That is not a proper comparison.
Not unless the monthly NPD report has daily breakdowns. I know they have weekly, but I dunno about dailies. But without daily sales, the finest granularity we'll get from NPD is Sun-Sat sales, so we'll have no way to know if MS really did Sat-Fri both years (apart from the fact they told us that's not what they did, of course).Yeah I'm pretty certain the figures will show that they were comparing the week leading up to BF for both years.
That's insane. So Halo 5 must be at 2-2.5m at this point. I think it will hit 4 to 5 million in total, so anywhere between half to one third of general Halo game.I wonder if Halo 6 is coming in two years or three years. And if it comes in three years, will MS release a different Halo game two years from now?
