NPD Sales Results for April 2016 [Sony, MS, & Nintendo refuse to comment on hardware]

I kinda expect uncharted 4 sales early next week ahead of Sony earning forecast on Tuesday.

Possibly. I was also thinking they'd wait until NPD to say anything definitive to give a good reason to boast. That said they'll probably say something ahead of their earnings calls.

Given the relative increases in the other markets, I'd honestly be surprised if UC4 doesn't break a million in the US for its first month.

First month WW will probably end up being around 2 million just from the data we do get.

Im thinking more like 2.5 million WW with US+UK projected being not far off 1.5 million for the month - doesnt seem that implausible for the RoW to make up the difference...

Actually think you agree considering the data we will get - probably more optimistic even...

The limited data set we have already has U4 higher than TLoU's opening sales, and that went on to do 3.4 million in 3 weeks.

2 million is low-balling it.

Which ultimately begs the question why has Sony been so quiet about it? It's bizarre that not only did we not get an NPD statement but we've also had no PR about what is by every indication a phenominaly successful first party launch.

Cool, I was out shopping in my local lidl store and I turned around and uncharted 4 stand selling the game to my surprise was there, to my mind it's the first time I've sen a videigame for sale at this particular chain so yeah I think the game has reach

Right, I meant that with regards to data that we usually actually get (US numbers if leaked, UK and Japan, with a mix of a couple other EU countries).

Otherwise, we are reliant on Sony to fill in the gaps as to how the ROTW is doing.

1 million in a month for Uncharted 4 would probably be under performing. I'd guess 3 million minimum.

In the US?!?!? No way dude that would be 4x the highest previous debut for the series. Not happening. At absolute most it would sell 1.5 million but even that is a stretch. It's likely to be just over a million.

Are you talking about hopes and dreams or reality?

Call of duty can pull 3 million in a month. Not uncharted. Seriously, at least look at what the previous games did before coming to a conclusion like that.

But TLOU had an excellent word of mouth, amazing critical reception and one of n the b quietest period of year and generation as a competition. I doubt stars have aligned this well for UC4.

excellent word of mouth - check
amazing critical reception - check
quietest period of year - maybe? What else was there to compete against, Doom? Ehhh

I can see UC4 performing incredibly well. Maybe not quite TLOU because of it's smaller install base, but I wouldn't be shocked if it performed proportionally as well as TLOU.

I said first 3 weeks, not month 2/3 onwards.

Word of mouth pushed TLoU to over 8 million. I'm solely comparing opening week till first month sales, which from precedent, isn't really all too determined by long-tail word-of-mouth, but rather excellent out-the-date reception, critical reception, marketing, etc.

Which UC4 is enjoying tremendously. Not to the levels of TLoU, but across the board it's recognised as a must-buy.

Given its success in UK, I asume UC4 sold 800.000 units in the US. In the first week. So, my guess is that by the end of the month if should be around 1,3mn units sold.

I still don't get why people say TLOU is thematically more attractive than Uncharted.
Uncharted is adventure-action-popcorn cinema. The last of us is dark stuff. Normally, Uncharted should appeal to more people.

In fact Uncharted 4 is selling better in Japan, Uk and Spain. We'll se in Germany( if we are lucky ) and USA next month.

It's more to do with TLOU being the better game, significantly so actually. UC4 picked up but it never reached the heights of TLOU, there is nothing special about UC4. I can't in any way, shape or form see it having the kind of legs TLOU did. Actually my thought is the game is going to drop hard as fuck from now on, as I said earlier 5 million lifetime is a lock but not much more than that.

Sounds like you should make a bet.

Lidl? That's a shocker. What country?
Are these kind of spot deals in discounters tracked by NPD?
If in the US of course.
How would it be, theoretically, with 7eleven, filling stations and so on?

This seems more opinionated than anything based on hard data.

UC4 is basically the PS4's first must own game with mass appeal, should do great numbers in territories beyond US/UK where PS4 has insane leads.

It's definitely opinionated. We'll have a decent indication of legs soon but I think people just forget that as a series gets more and more popular, you'll inevitably have a larger amount of people who don't enjoy the game.

That and I would never use the GAF consensus on videogame titles to determine sales success and legs.

Think you've hit the nail on the head there.

Crazy to talk about legs already and all that yet with zero NPD data (although next week UK charts could be a fair indicator).

Gaf sentiment is a poor way to measure game success too agreed, otherwise platinum would sell 5m+ with every game haha.

So a Black Friday 2DS @ $50 is now a distinct possibility. Think it would move the needle appreciably?

This could be HUGE.
They already have a 3DS pricedrop For the holidays, now if they make another 2DS pricedrop + Pokèmon Moon an Sun in November 3DS gonna have a nice holidays.

As PS4 is the strongest console by far in Spain (outselling XboxOne 5:1 or so), total Division retail sales should not be much higher.

5:1 ? lol

...it was 9:1 in June 2015, and the gap Always increase a lot ( was 5:1 At first, then 7:1 and then 9:1 )

It's easy 10:1 now, maybe even 12:1.

P.S
The Division all console combined was ~30,000

I already have UC selling over a million in NPD .
First month WW i going with 4.5 to 5 million .
That could change when i see the PAL charts next week .

So Sony is pretty much set for the holidays with GT Sport.

Not to mention whatever big third party games are coming out.

They were set either way even without GT Sport due to the multiplats. If anything, I think a Holiday release will hurt GT Sport in America (where the racing genre has gone down in popularity) since it's such a busy period for gaming releases but we'll see.

GT/Forza games thrive & fail on how they do in European and non-American territories anyway.

Even if they chart in America, they drop like a rock instantly. It's in UK/Germany/etc charts where they hold for months and months on end.

GT5 shipped more than 3ML in USA, GT6 more than 1 ML. GT5 had very good legs.

Yeah, I think the bulk of support will be coming outside of US anyway. Perhaps the holidays can help the US version.

GT Sport will do very well if they advertise like they did Uncharted 4... GT6 literally got no advertising and GT5 only had one Kevin Butler commercial and advertising on Gillette shavers.

Yep -- definitely agree. Those countries are helping Americans like me continue on getting games from a genre that we enjoy this gen.

I think GT6 struggled due to Sony miscalculating the active user base on PS3. I expect a bounce back in sales with GT Sport.

Also didn't Horizon o better in the U.S. than anywhere else? (2 specifically? or about even?) and didn't Forza 5 have legs in the U.S.?

The reason why GT and Forza SEEM to drop is because of the other games releasing right after them.

Unlikely.

It still sold 4.8 Million as of December. I all the articles about how GT5 wasn't going to sell as well as traditional GT games when it's debut month in the US was 700k. Went on to sell 3.4 Million in the US and a total of 11.9 Million making it the second best selling GT game of all time! So much crow was ate on that game!

GT Sport will do well on PS4 and bring back long time fans who only had a 360 last gen. It's what everyone said they wanted, a new GT game that started from scratch ditching old assets ala GT3. It is reported to have great physics too.

Well I did say last month I would not be shocked if R&C is in the top 3. I even when ahead and corrected it to being top 2 with Dark Souls 3.

I hope this is a sign to come for other beloved platforming franchises to make a comeback.
