The X1 OS and controller updates will outsell the PS4 OS updates this year
Well you can certainly say that PS4 is well placed to storm ahead again in the USA if they can price-match the Bone. Or even go cheaper, for a period at least, if they are first to drop the price to $299.
Homie compared The Order to Gears 0_0
I'm out peeps.
What a load of shit this is?
In Japan PS4 might sell about 10% of what PS2 did, so US and EU have a lot of catching up to do, which is basically impossible to happen.
First, Xbox brand is much stronger in US than it was in PS2 era, and will eat PS4's sales a lot which means that EU should see bigger console sales than ever before.
Second, there's too much competition from mobiles, tablets and other entertainment to ever see a single home console sell over 150 million pieces worldwide. Casuals are doing something else than buying consoles for Singstar.
There's no way The Order sells 5+ million, I think it will sell 2 million lifetime, Killzone will remain the best selling exclusive until UC4 & H5 launch.
Imru’ al-Qays;152003699 said:The 150 million number is misleading. The only reason the PS2 sold that many consoles is because Sony prolonged its lifespan due to the overpriced, poorly-received PS3. What matters is launch date adjusted sales. I think there's a pretty good chance the PS4 will outsell the PS2 worldwide if you adjust by launch date.
how does the PS4 vs PS2 LTD fare worldwide, aligning for launch times (i.e. trying to separate out Japan for a more accurate comparison)
you think sony can just "decide to prolong" 50 million units into existence? thats more than the Xbox and gamecube sold during their entire lifespans, combined. The PS2 was legitimately popular, amassed a massive library that could be had cheaply, and thus kept selling on that library long after new games were scarce.
the ps4 has absolutely no shot at outselling the PS2 worldwide. It has simply too much competition, from the Xbox as well as smartphones and tablets.

edit: wait a minute, PS2 shipments hit 28.68m through FY2002....

Didn't expect Sony to take NPD until Feb.
Imru’ al-Qays;152004629 said:No, I don't think it prolonged 50 million units into existence. It prolonged enough units into existence to make 150 million a misleading benchmark, though. No console will ever have a more successful afterlife than the PS2, but the PS2's healthy afterlife was a direct result of the seventh generation's difficult start.
PS2:
March 2000 - 1.41 million LTD shipped
June 2000 - No data
September 2000 - 3.52 million LTD shipped
December 2000 - No data
March 2001 - 10.61 million LTD shipped
June 2001 - No data
September 2001 - 19.58 million LTD shipped
December 2001 - 24.99 million LTD shipped
PS4:
December 2013 - 4.5 million LTD shipped
March 2014 - 7.5 million LTD shipped
June 2014 - 10.2 million LTD shipped
September 2014 - 13.5 million LTD shipped
December 2014 - 19.9 million LTD shipped

The seventh generation didn't have a difficult start. The PS3 did, but the 7th generation as a whole had an immediate, phenomenal success in the launch of the Wii, and the 360 took off around the same time, though not to the same degree. The 360 had identical or BETTER performance than the PS3, with 90% of the same games, for a lot less money.
Plenty of people were buying plenty of 7th gen consoles, but still continued to pick up PS2s due to the massive library that could be had for next to nothing (remember, used games were huge for ps2) and super low price point.
I don't doubt that Halo 3 sold more because the word of mouth was positive and Halo 4 MP displeased many fans, but Microsoft never announced Halo 4 global sales.
For USA we have a funny situation. Halo 2, 3, Reach and 4 all had the same sales on first NPD, ~3.3m.
I don't know if there is in fact a downtrend for Halo series. Guardians will show the answer.
Yeah, first month numbers are misleading, Halo 3 had long legs, meanwhile, Halo 4 launched during CoD's peak.
Can you share their NPD LTD Aqua?
Imru al-Qays;152005670 said:People were buying plenty of Wiis, but the 360 was only selling about as well as the original Xbox (at least in the US, I don't know how the rest of the world stacks up). Since I don't believe the Wii's sales, even in the console's early years, were coming principally from the traditional console market I think it's fair to say the seventh generation had a difficult start.
I don't know that I find it plausible that a lot of the people buying PS2s in its afterlife were the sorts of people also buying 360s/PS3s at the same time. The people buying 360s and PS3s in years one and two already had PS2s. The afterlife PS2s were being bought by people who didn't have the budget for the HD twins because the HD twins launched expensive and stayed expensive.
The only thing that made gears so popular that would make it outsell the order is the online multiplayer, this is a big feature for maNY.
In terms of single player the order should be pretty close to same quality and I expect the order story to be miles better than
"dude watch me totally shred this alien bruh "
Not in a position to look at the numbers at the moment...but off the top of my head, I believe this is the order:
Halo 3 > Halo 4 > Halo Reach > Halo > Halo 2
...in the USA
I'm going off memory, so if I'm wrong on any one of the rankings, someone else please correct me
Dude are you serious? Bruh you sound crazy right now comparing the orders QTE snooze fest gameplay to Gears.

If you are someone womderinf about exploring wide environments and getting lost in pointkess escapades let me say now this is not the game for Yo, nor is it a QTE fest (there was one in my enturentire time with the game). The level of detail in the story was apparant from the panel section and its something I will delve into next.
Halo 2 worse than CE? Wow
Halo 4 being the second best is understandable.
Well...
That's just comparing raw software SKUs.
I think...if you were to combine Halo 2 + Halo 2: Special Edition, Halo 2 would be over Halo by a good amount.

Amazon will show the truth. It hasn't been wrong yet...PS4 is winning again this month far with a big release next week.
Hmm.
Still, pretty nice to get "some" update on Halo sales, even if it didn't include numbers.
Sorry about that.
Let me rack my brain...
Halo is a little over 4 million.
Halo 2 is nearly 4 million by itself....and I think....the special edition adds another 1.5 million?
Halo 3 is.....did it hit 7 million?
Ugh I can't remember...sorry man.
the 360 only sold around the pace of the OG Xbox before the PS3 was a known quantity. by the time of the PS3 launch, it was RAPIDLY outselling it.
The seventh generation had no growing pains. your narrative is fiction.
I don't think there's any chance that the PS4 loses February.I think there's a chance that February breaks the streak for amazon. January was closer than I thought it would be.
Amazon was giving PS+ and then mordor, something that other retailers weren't doing. Also don't think the order will shift consoles.
And you never played Gears confirmed, the fact people are even trying to compare the two is hilarious, Gears of War is one of the best 3rd person shooters ever (forget judgment lol)
Hmm, so it seems Xbone, Wii U, and Vita had YoY increases. Vita had a 50%+ YoY increase in December too. I wonder if this is a temporary influx or if Vita is on the reversal. It has sold less every year since it was released, especially from 2012 to 2013.
What a rotten month. Current and last gen consoles combined sold less than the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube together in January 2002. Gamecube sold as much as the Wii U that month.
Ya I played gears plenty thanks and yes its one of the best playing third person shooters ever, right.
Story is laughable.
Order may or may not be better, theme looks better but video games stories you never know.
We have a Vita number?
Imru’ al-Qays;152007989 said:I assume by "by the time of the PS3 launch" you mean "several months after the PS3's launch," because at the time of the PS3's launch the 360 and the original Xbox sales numbers were pretty similar, at least according to Road's wonderful graph (in which the 360's sales totals at the time of the PS3's launch show up at month 12):
Don't know why you think the Wii's sales are relevant to the health of the broader console market now when a few pages ago you didn't. Either the Wii is an unrepresentative outlier or it's a normal console, it can't be both.
I hate that ppl act like Gears is the holy grail of TPS. And pretend it's a fact that cannot be questioned.
I've played a ton tps' including gears... And I really have not seen anything that puts it's head and shoulders above any other tps.
Personally I enjoyed Binary Domain alot more
One is both #1 and making profits. I'll let you take a guess as to which one.Well one cares about being number 1 no matter what the cost is and the other has always done its own thing.
November is Microsofts best chance based on Halo 5 alone. I don't think they have any other AAA releases before then that can actually make a difference. They will take every month until ms decides to give xbox away again during nov and dec.
@Wii U - Toad is so like the 3rd best selling title this month for Wii U isn't it...
