Both PS4 and XB1 sold roughly ~550k combined which is less than the 822k from last year September.

...OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! D: D: D:

I changed the OP to reflect that both consoles are down.

So, rereading the Microsoft statement, is it FIFA that's up year over year on console sales?

Microsoft's statement is, probably intentionally, vague. Depending on how you read it, it could relate to either XBox One or FIFA.

Really surprised by the Disney Infinity console sku numbers. The game was pushed heavily for the PS4 and yet XB1 still outdid it. Very interesting.

Of course the XB1 didn't do itself any favors at the NYCC panel when the controller died in the middle of a demo. Oh well.

If the Saga Bundles sold aren't counted in the main sku, the results could be different. It's kids and families game too so probably more likely to have an old console or a Wii U for the kids.

How is this possible if Xbox One > 284K ? And Ps4 won.

Don't believe MS PR?

They made the PR statement sound like Xbox One sales were up over last September, when it was really that Xbox Sales all year through September were up over last year through September.

Disappointing to see MGS fail to outsell Madden in its second month. Again a PS4 bundle could have been a greater success for the game and the PS4 this month but just baffling in its absence.

Warner Bros. is really on a roll this year, at least in terms of software sales. LEGO Dimensions not charting is surprising though. As others have said, it can probably be attributed to the game's high price compared to its competitors - not to mention Disney Infinity has the Star Wars advantage.

i don't think kids have made the leap yet in droves for that to be the case. Majority of parents/grandparents went to WiiU as a follow up this gen. That will surely change this holiday and next. majority of PS4/XB1 is still *us*

I thought it was going to change around last year tbh. I expected the wii U sku of these games to be on top of next gen in 2013, but not past that. Especially as the other consoles raced ahead.

If grandmas bought the wii u, who the eff owns a wii U? lol, is it the casuals or ninty hardcore? There's almost not even enough room in that 10m for both...

2k is doing really well with their nba game, wished they did all the other sports titles to compete with EA on those as well.

Referring just to June 2008 NPD which was 770k.

So you are comparing MGS V Steam worldwide sales with MGS 4 US sales?

No making the point that the PC release is a significant source of digital sales that will not be tracked in any of the retail sales reports which make it very difficult to make an apples to apples comparison with the franchise's prior performance.

Nintendo's PR

The ability to create, play and share your own unique Super Mario levels was a dream 30 years in the making for Mario fans. Turns out it was also a great reason to jump into the Wii U experience. The Super Mario Maker game for the Wii U console launched in the U.S. on Sept. 11 and sold nearly 445,000 combined units in its first three weeks (Sept. 11, 2015 – Oct. 3, 2015), bringing the lifetime total to more than 500,000 combined units in the U.S. alone (Sept. 11 – Oct. 19, 2015). Perhaps the biggest impact however has been on hardware sales. For the full month of September, sales of Wii U hardware in the United States increased by nearly 110 percent over sales in August. Software sells hardware and no one sells hardware like Mario.

Other Nintendo highlights from September include:

Through the first nine months of 2015, sales of Nintendo 3DS hardware have increased by nearly 25 percent over the same time frame in 2014.
Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer for the Nintendo 3DS system launched on Sept. 25 and sold nearly 115,000 total units in its first week on the market.

Then sales will continue to only be decent and not excellent imo. Price drops are coming too slow and too limited.

Well these companies are in the business of making money. These consoles are still selling. The holidays are just around the corner so these consoles will sell and obscene amount anyway.

Once it hits $299 those people will still be there to buy the console.

Both PS4 and Xbone do a pretty damn poor job of moving family friendly software tbh

I imagine there's not much of a young audience on the new consoles. $350 is probably still more than many parents will spend on a "toy". Plus, between free mobile games, the old consoles still getting the playsets and minecraft updates, the kids themselves probably arent asking for them.

As Bear Force One pointed out, the Saga Bundle likely isn't counted in that sku so it's possible that PS4 could have sold better overall than the Wii U version. Given the marketing deal, it seems plausible to me.

thread moving too fast
oh yeah, that makes sense. It's possible then.

What's XB1s excuse then? ha

It's a kids game, and moms ain't buying the most expensive next gen console on the market for their kids. There's a reason why the 360 version is still the most popular.

By the time they phase out last-gen for Disney Infinity, I can see people going with whatever's cheapest on the market.

Holy shit at Animal Crossing O_O
I mean I wasn't expecting a mixed reviewed spin off to sell over 100k first week.

Reviews probably didn't factor much into purchasing decisions. (as it should be)
