Flat out the Switch is the single worst platform to own standalone, you've got Nintendo games and that's just about it. Nintendo has diversity of their own but the cost is too high, they've relegated themselves to side-system status because you miss too much from everyone else for it to be a lone viability.

It's even worse than that. Their exclusives have never been lower quality relative to the competition. I can't justify buying a Nintendo machine for the exclusives anymore. They're simply not must haves like they used to be through the Gamecube.

Nintendo hasn't published a Metroid Prime level game since...Metroid Prime.

That's an interesting point. I'd say it's a combination of the two. The WiiU had some very good games, but it obviously wasn't enough.

The quality of the games has to be there, but you need more. Consumers have so many choices nowadays for gaming hardware so they have to feel like they're getting something out of this new machine they're investing money in. The Switch's success shows that, right now, convenience is a major selling point. I don't think this is going to change anytime soon.

People are probably not going to go and watch a GI Joe animated movie no matter how good it is simply because of that "cartoons are for kids" mindset.
So it MUST be live action. Doesn't matter if the story is garbage.
Even though there are probably hundreds of kids movies that are far better than GI Joe, Transformers etc.

That desire for there to be a live action adaptation of basically every successful animation is very similar to how every successful foreign movie needs a Hollywood adaptation.

There's a sad insecurity at the heart of it, in my opinion.

If you're talking portables. The Famicom all the way up to GameCube that was never the case. For home consoles it started with the Wii, which was a redesigned upclocked GameCube with new controllers, then Wii u and now Switch. With the Switch it's understandable because they went portable with this one.

Here is an idea, why not do what any reasonable person do and ignore what you don't like and enjoy what you do like, there is no real reason be upset about it.

I dunno. I find it endlessly amusing.

I was growing up in that Super Nintendo vs Sega Genisis/MegaDrive era and so would have been one of those "graphics" kids.

By the time PS2, PS3 etc came out I was already over that shit and now I'm just happy to have time to actually play games.
I never got into PC gaming cos it's too much hassle and too much investment (time and money) for me personally.

I could only really understand the "graphics" stuff coming from PC gamers who are investing time and research and effort and money into making their setup have the best possible performance.
I see them more as proper hobbyists though since they are doing a lot more than just grabbing a console off the shelf at Walmart.

The Switch is not my first go to when I want to play something as I also have PC and PS4 but some of the takes in here and hostility where people feel their testosterone levels challenged by anyone actually enjoying the Switch is really dumb.

To be fair it will speed by the Xbox One even without a mini and I can only imagine how upset certain users here will be when that happens. Those 50-100 Xbox sales per week in Japan really hurts when trying to play catch up to the PS4 globally.
