Oculus' Palmer Luckey funds white-supremacist/misogynistic/anti-lgbt harassment group

Dear fellow conservatives, all three of you.

I don't want to get banned again.

Having said that, all forms of hatred, anger and prejudice are wrong. Good people understand this. Genuinely good people.

You think the owner of the NimbleRichMan account deleted it simultaneously with the release of this article for absolutely no reason?

You don't think this sort of behavior is consistent with Palmer's character, as demonstrated by his twitter activity and the company he keeps?

I think besides Milo, the girlfriend is one of the biggest flaws in the whole "this was clearly just a joke, how do you know it was more than that?!" argument. I dunno guys, but I think if I was dating someone who is as racist as his girlfriend appears to be and supports garbage like gamergate, well, I think I'd be out of that relationship pretty quickly, but Palmer Luckey? He seems just fine with where he is.

I wonder why that is.

It's bullshit fear mongering to use that first hand experience as a reason for the ridiculous and excessive military spending this country has. Yes, there are bad people all over the world. I don't need "first hand" anecdotes to know that. Doesn't mean we need to spend trillions on bombs and fighter jets we will never use. Opinions like his is why we can never even have any real dialogue or discourse on military spending in this fucking country, and why it's so easy for politicians to get away with it, because the minute you try and bring it up you have to deal with bullshit "You weren't on the frontlines/you're not a patriot" bullshit rhetoric like Marinemountie's over there.

I'm sure that many black people like Eric Garner would say that they saw some things first hand as well if they were still alive to make that argument. However, the Trump campaign has gone on record saying that they don't believe that there is a race issue with American police. I guess this firsthand experience only matters some of the time.

We just had that thread about developers' politics ruining their games. I couldn't think of anything at the time, but it looks like this would be my answer now.

xxracerxx

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
Did you actually read that quote? He was pretending, playing a character. Unless you think that he somehow ran in the same circles as Donald Trump before 2008 (when he was 16 years old) so could try to convince Trump to run for office.

This 'playing a character' will turn into a delicious meme, I can just feel it.

Fear mongering? I spent 4 years in the Marine Corps. 3 deployments, was forced out due to injuries and am now disabled. I have seen 1st hand what people want to do to the US. You take away defense spending, bad things will happen.

I'm done with this. I didn't realize GAF was so liberal dominated. Not sure if its better or worse than a conservative dominated board. Back to happy game threads for me.

You've seen first hand what people want to do to the US... while you were part of an invading military force in a foreign country?

I mean, you personally were just following orders and doing your job, but please get some perspective.

Palmer Luckey is an asshole?

I don't know the site that well but it seems they've had several unsavory articles already this year:

Using Grindr to falsely draw out possibly closeted athletes in the Olympic village, which has since been pulled for being (rightfully) blasted.

This piece has been called inaccurate by several sources, one of which claimed it was a ridiculous smear.

So in my brief research, it doesn't seem like it's a paragon of journalism in its current state. Also, Palmer being on the cover of Time would imply he's a bit bigger than our small circle.

I think they're definitely related, yes. I also don't think it's terribly out character.

I'd just like to hear his side of the story before lambasting him. It's out there now so I doubt he'll stay silent for long. He's up shit creek at the moment.

Them directly quoting him and saying he admitted to X would be 100% libel if it was false.

So glad I never gave this psycho money

"Self made" so fucking full of shit. Learned some cool things from some influential people, put a couple prototypes together and just happened to strike gold when crowd funding was the "in" thing.

I hope Carmack distances himself from this clown

The "Seen firsthand" thing is absolutely not fear mongering and I respect the fuck out of the soldiers who go overseas and see firsthand the shit that most people in the US could never even dream of so I can't agree with you there at all Scooter. Even though I don't agree with anything else he is saying.
No respect for anyone that excuse the shit trump says or does just because "he's a republican"

Soldier or not, it's basically supporting a racist. Serving doesn't give you a pass on that.

Someone who is willing to tow party lines despite fairly blatant racism and bigotry is, at best, a fucking enabler of racism and bigotry and is no better than a racist themselves, so yes, I feel fairly comfortable labeling any Trump supporter as a racist and, frankly, a piece of shit.

Respectively disagree. Just hate to see an election plus other social issues ripping apart a country. Regardless of who wins in November, everyone has to live together under that new president for the foreseeable future. As the United States Representative to the world, i would hope/expect they would represent all of the country, not jus the people that voted for them.

Not trying to argue or imply i support him. I am sure a chunk of the people voting for him typically vote republican in each election due to their views on spending/taxes and realize his batshit crazy ideas would never make it out of congress.

I dunno. Most republicans I know absolutely adore him, love his racist ideals, and eat up all the conservative BS, and conspiracy theories put out by pro-Trump media outlets.

Considering how Trump would likely privatize the VA system as well, it really shouldn't be too hard to figure out what the best option for pretty much anyone is.

Oh, and maybe if America didn't spend the past 60 years overthrowing democratically elected governments and invading countries under false pretenses, maybe people wouldn't hate the U.S. so much?

Anyway, glad I didn't buy an Oculus. Hopefully the Vive wasn't tested on Bonobos until they went blind or something like that. Then again, that's why I try to avoid buying things as much as possible.

the VA system is hot garbage shit. i dont think privatizing it the answer but someone needs to do something with it. it's a joke

oh yeah, i'm a non racist conservative who doesnt like trump. i feel like consevatives are painted really bad on this board. every conservative isnt a racist, xenophobe, homophobe or bigot guys. its pretty shitty to lump everyone who is a conservative into that group too.

edit: not pojected at you. just the board itself

"Ripping apart" implies this country was unified in the first place.

Even just the fact that he pals around with "Fat people at the gym must be shamed" Milo would be a dealbreaker for me. But Palmer Luckey has been using the money gained from creating Oculus to fund a white supremacist presidential candidate who advocates committing war crimes and believes climate change is a hoax created by the Chinese. What more is there to say, really?

You know what I hate most about these kinds of things? It's not necessarily what they're saying. It's that they're able to get away with it, and somehow get to enjoy themselves at the expensive of others. The fact that there are no repercussions at the moment that they're doing it, an seemingly none afterwards either.

All this horribleness aside for a sec, why does "shitposting" even need funding? Isn't Nimble America the same org that was accused by Trump supporters of secretly being the personal piggy bank of Milo Yiannopoulos?

I think there was major drama about it a week ago on The_Donald, but god knows I'm not diving into that cesspit.

Sort of ironic given the right's complaints that Facebook silences their news/opinions, though knowing Zuckerberg I doubt he's pleased about this even if he was aware if Luckey's politics beforehand.

I also remember some hubbub a couple months ago about a 'white male' grant Milo started up that he apparently swiped the money from.

Problem is the people who get pissed off being swindled by him (whether the deserve it or not is besides the point) are outnumbered by the people who borderline want to be conned by him. Even in GG's early days when one figurehead would make moves against calling put Milo they'd suddenly find themselves the enemy, and that happened repeatedly.

The worst part is that he's young enough and rich enough that he's going to be bankrolling godawful right wing movements for the next sixty years.

He was just "Pretending"? This is must be a joke. Worst attempt to save your ass.

You´re done Luckey. Your racist girlfriend isnt helping either.

In what way? Are you suggesting that anybody who is pro-Trump is a straight scumbag?

I certainly go even farther than just suggest that. There is no reasonable justification to support Trump. You can support him only if hate for others is your driving force.

Plus you can go to his Twitter right now and check his likes. Within 10 tweets there is a tweet from Jill Stein about protest votes being great and a tweet from Scott Adams (noted scumbag) about how CNN is smearing Trump by using the term Racial Profiling. Everything that matches alt-right ideas and people is here. Anyone who has followed this stuff the past 5 years knows exactly what is going on.

EDIT: Just keep scrolling down through those likes...

Good, I hope he gets all the fallout from this. Being a conservative is one thing, supporting white supremacist is an different level of asshole.

They deserve their shit sandwich if they didn't do their homework beforehand.

Don't disagree at all and I am 100% anti-Trump. Scooter cleared up what he meant and I agree with what he is saying :)

Well anyone who doesn't think so, we have factual evidence that people of color are killed by police more than white people

Between Notch and this guy, I'm feeling really down on video game billionaires. So much money for such shitty people.

It should help us separate art, or the things people make, from who they are. We are complex beings, no need to throw the baby out with the bathwater. People seem to be able to do this with the Dragon Quest composer, for example. But I totally understand not wanting to fund racism or other shitty endeavors, if that's what you believe you are doing.

I've heard stories from veterans I know about it, so I'm aware. I think Universal or single-payer healthcare would fix a lot of the issues that manifest in the VA system as well. That way, any additional treatments tailored to veterans could be implemented a lot more effectively without all the pricing and administrative bloat bottlenecking any improvement.

I seriously hate how chan and alt-right culture glorifies being as hurtful as you can. A lot of these people think of themselves as social outcasts, you'd think these people would hate bullies rather than celebrate them. :(

Enk

makes good threads.
Will wait and see how Palmer and Oculus's responses pan out in the coming days, but if all the evidence is true... wow, Palmer.

Empty rhetoric. Can't play the can't we all just get along game when a candidate is running on a platform of forced deportation, oppression, etc. By ripping apart a country, you mostly mean forcing white people to address things they don't want to. Discussing America's issues during this election season isn't what's making all these unarmed black people suddenly fill with bullet holes. Things were already ripped up for a lot of people.

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.
Even if he was "playing a character" what kind of dipshit aligns himself with this types of groups?

And it's not like he accidentally liked their facebook page. He donated money to them, I don't care if he's almost a billionaire and "only" donated 10K, he showed support.

The "for the lulz" mentality is one of the worst things to ever happen to Internet culture.
