Ahhhh, college football. Truly the best sport in America. Put me down for the PS3 version. This will be my first jump to next-gen football, and I hope I won't be let down after the last couple of excellent PS2 versions.

EDIT: by the way, good work on the OP, bd!

It's not the best sport, cause there is never a true victor.

Oh boy we get a surprise announcement tonight.

Those who frequent the forum have known since Thursday that I have been heading towards making an announcement related to NCAA Football 09. That announcement now looks as though it will be coming tonight.

Just to be clear everything there is to know about NCAA 09 is out there and this will not be a reveal of something new about the game. It does however relate to the game and should be something that the community will be very pleased about.

Once an exact time for the announcement can be locked down it will be added here and will be mentioned in the forum.

Also if you want some good impressions of NCAA 09 Bill Abner has the game. For those who do not know him he was a once great slider creator, NCAA zealot and a bit anal when it comes to getting the perfect game. Good guy and he also writes for numerous websites.

One tidbit

The INT issue from the first few games has vanished. I'm chalking this up as officially no longer an issue. I do get picks, as I should, but I have not played a game anything like that first MSU debacle. If you think the INTs are too high on default, change it. That INT slider works.

Keep in mind these are all CPU games and as expected there are and always will be funky CPU logic.

Could they be changing the release date to actually match when it will arrive in stores, which would be sometime this week. If it's not a "new" feature, that's the only thing I could come up with.

It is either that or something to do with EAsportsworld/Some Online Feature, as far as I can guess. If NCAA comes out next week... School Girls would blush at how giddy I would be.

I'd be very happy as well. My wife? not so much. :D

Well we already know about roster sharing. I would like to think that EA would have a completed file ready for download for the community once the game ships, but that is a long shot.

EA can't do that. Player names are not allowed (CLC License restriction passed down by the NCAA). What EA has done in the past is to get copies of the game early to a couple of the roster makers, so they get a head start.

Here is a good article on it.

From 2006

"The deal with EA," explained NCAA vice president Greg Shaheen, "gives us a unique branding platform and access to a wide demographic." But since technology could make "NCAA Football" the college football equivalent of "Madden" in popularity and sales, it's not surprising that EA is increasingly frustrated by the NCAA's restrictions. "I think EA will continue to push for more leeway," said CLC's Battle. EA seems to think it will, too. "This has been an ongoing discussion: 'O.K., how far can we go?' " EA spokeswoman Jennifer Gonzalez told The Indianapolis Star earlier this year.

Since it started making "NCAA Football," EA has gained substantial concessions from the NCAA. The early versions of the game weren't nearly as accurate as the latest ones in terms of the height, weight, or skin color of the athletes. But the NCAA may balk at going further: It's unlikely that EA will ever be allowed to include player names.

...

The jerseys were green-lighted under the NCAA's rules for the same reason that "NCAA Football" was approved: The association considers a jersey number a step removed from a player's identity. "I see nothing wrong with selling jerseys with just numbers on them," Brand said at last summer's meeting. "But I would draw the line at selling the names."

I think the ability to share the rosters online (through XBL or PS3) is an example of the CLC & NCAA being far more flexible. If they ever allowed EA to put names in it would open a Pandora's Box as other CLC license holders (college-apparel, etc) would want the same.

your ncaa thread is superior to my madden thread :(

oh i read that guys impressions. sounds like the biggest problems at this point are KR/PR coverage (too easy) and the CPU playcalling.

Yeah, that's why I said it would be a long shot. You're right, though. It would never happen. I was shooting for the stars with what it could be. Do you think it could be EASports World-related? I wonder if Tiburon would tie in the similar feature that is in Tiger Woods 09, where your stats would be tracked online for others to compete against.

Woo hoo, under an hour before the news. Better not be underwhelming.

To many that is what makes it the best sport. Spending all of November and December bitching and complaining about who made the BCS title game. How OU will once again blow a BCS title game (hangs head in shame). The mythical national champions of the AP/UPI/Coaches Poll Days. Beano Cook professing that another ND QB will win multiple Heismans and lead the Domers to another title.

To me what makes College Football the best sport is what it does that few others do. Every game in the regular season COUNTS for something. Best regular season in all of sports.

*** News for 360 owners ***

Exclusive: NCAA Football 09 Rosters

July 6, 2008 by pastapadre No Comments »

The controversy surrounding the “business” of rosters has been in the public eye more so this year than any before. That in itself threatens the future of having an editing option in games such as NCAA Football and NCAA Basketball. This year with the addition of the EA Locker feature and the following announcement hopefully that is about to change.

I can now state that the first and only fully named roster file for NCAA Football 09 on the Xbox 360 currently resides in my EA Locker.

I am choosing not to release the file for download at this time as it would just offer the opportunity for certain people to nab it in advance and use it for their own profit. However it is publicly available via the Locker to those who have the game and will remain that way.

I apologize to PS3 gamers as I do not have that roster available. Keep an eye on NCAA Strategies and freencaa09rosters for updates on that. The same circumstances will apply with a fully named roster available for free through the EA Locker, though the timing of when it will be available can not be determined at this time.

So now for 360 gamers there is no waiting around after release for rosters to be completed and no wondering where to get them from. The first time you fire up the game you’ll be able to grab the complete named roster from my locker. Even if you’re one of the lucky ones who manage to find the game early!

Spread the word that rosters are free and easier to obtain this year than ever before. Just head into the EA Locker section of NCAA Football 09 and search the gamertag pastapadre to get them instantly!

Reminder - These are not rosters created by EASports. If you think his rosters stink, try editing 100+ teams with 50+ players per team and then feel free and bitch to Pastapadre. ;)

Also you DO NOT have to be on pastapadre's friends list to get the rosters. Just search for his name and download away.

Man, good news for you 360 guys. Hopefully NCAA Strategies will have one ready for the PS3 by the release date. Now I know what it must have felt like to be a Xbox owner during last gen [/debbie downer face]

Good news about the rosters. I might get the 360 version of NCAA and the PS3 version of Madden!

That's so awesome. I went through and did the FSU ones myself last year but it took awhile.. doing it for all teams is amazing. Can this be out already?!

that's awesome that they have the rosters set! i remember i tried doing the naming myself in 2002 or 2003 and holy shit it took forever. i think i only ended up doing the top 10 teams or something.

great job by the guys who are doing this. hopefully the ps3 rosters will be up shortly after release (or at release!)

If they really did fix the INTs (and not break anything else), coupled with online dynasty, it's worth $60 this year. My buddies and I are debating which conference to play our online dynasty in. I'm thinking Big 10.

Yeah it's already starting on OS. It seems that every year like 30% of people who do it are successful. I love how there's such specific retailers on the coupon and there are a couple of giants left out :lol

What's the point if you can't jump into Mascot Mode and watch Osceola run a spear through that stupid Gator and or Bird-Thing?

Dumbass forgot to change it to read NCAA 2009 in the body of the email...

p.s. That would be amazing if it worked.

p.p.s. I wish Osceola was involved, but he never gets any love. Probably for fear of angering some idiot PC group.

Some good and pretty shitty info from a recent conference call with Sean Bailey from MM:

Shitty:

ADAPTIVE DEFENSIVE AI
My question. I asked if this year, the Defense would recognize if you ran the same play over and over and make adjustments. Sean mentioned that they way they do it in previous years on the current gen side was that the defense would get a ratings boost if they noticed that you were running the same play over and over. This year, unfortunately, there is no adaptive AI, so, the defense does not make adjustments if you run the same play you have success with over and over.

CPU DEFENSE PLAY CALLING
The CPU pretty much calls plays based on down and distance, not really based on formation. This is an area EA wants to work on in the future.

CPU PLAY CALLING
The CPU will call plays based around the primary receiver. In terms of playbooks, the team will execute the same playbook tendancies regardless of how the team personnel changes over time. If the coach is fired, Sean indicated that the playoff probably changes at that point.

Good:
D-LINE AND LBs INT ABILITY
There have been some adjustment to the INT ability of lineman and LBs in pass coverage. They don't pull down INTs as well as they did in 08.

according to bill's impressions, the dynasty stat engine is all fucked up (qb's with 40 TD's and 1 Int, insane stats etc)

in madden i would say who gives a shit cause we'll play online league with 32 humans, but in NCAA's online dynasty there are computer teams and we'll be dealing with that stat engine. cheating human players out of the heisman!

Just finished my first game (online) on the PS3 version and chilling at the outset of another game(offline)!

Too early to give super detailed impressions but...This game is sooooooo fucking good. The gameplay is so smooth with no slowdown at all. Passing feels nice and crisp with no hiccups like the demo. Scrambling feels great this year as you can feel the QB slow down when you run with him for a prolonged period of time in the pocket. The freestyle juke animations are really sick...too sick as I played a guy that was doing some crazy combinations in the open field which blew me away. I got some practicing to do. The custom soundtracks for game events works very well too even online. The DB AI isn't so ninja like this year, as i saw a realistic number of drops and picks from both teams. The formation specific audible selection will keep me in menus for a couple hours as there are so many ways to prepare your team....

Ended up losing my game 41-38 is 2OTs, but a loss never was so fun!! :D

I'll take questions....

Thanks for the impressions. I'm looking forward to the PS3 version next week. Oh, one quick question: Can you customize the button layout? I wouldn't mind using the old-school 2004 controller layout, if possible.

Yeah, I can't deal with that R2 shit for speed burst and X to stiff arm; I need those classic controls.

Did you download the roster file and see how many names they used in the commentary?

I'm picking it up next week and look forward to working on the files that are already out.

Same place hut is located but there is a rival store there that typically lowers prices upon the threat of going to the hut. 55 out the door! :D

Haven't tried SIM stats yet...trying to find the roster save to download the names!
