Thanks for putting a goddamn Sparty on the Wii cover, EA.

Well people voted for the Wii cover and some schools had pretty big campaigns on Facebook and stuff to get their mascot on the cover.

Unfortunately for me, I have the RROD so no launch day NCAA for me. I was thinking about picking up the PS2 version anyway, but now I might be forced too. Online dynasty will be my soon, just come home from Texas baby.

Same place hut is located but there is a rival store there that typically lowers prices upon the threat of going to the hut. 55 out the door! :D

Haven't tried SIM stats yet...trying to find the roster save to download the names!

What the hell stores are you guys shopping at where they break release dates and sell games cheaper? They don't happen to sell candy, puppies and fireworks there too do they? Because that would truly be heaven. :p

it's basically a swap meet type store. not really the type of place you want to be around later at night either.... actually even in the day time! it's cool though, that's how LA is sometimes :(

Can you pick me up a hooker while you are there?

Does anyone know if you can co-op a dynasty on the same system ... like sitting together ... in person?

I have a good friend who used to come over to play a dynasty that we had going together. You could both play on the same team at the same time.

However, in the first NCAA for the 360 (I believe '07), this option was removed.

Hopefully it's back? I'm sure most people don't care, but it's a big deal to me.

Yeah Hut is a decent place for what it is. For games like Madden and NCAA, their best shot to sell big numbers is prior to the release date as the market dries up when all the big retailers sell their copies. There is a rival game store in the same place which affords savvy buyers the benefit of playing them against each other. :D

Played another six games or so. This game plays like a dream for me. I've been playing around with several different types of offenses, and there are so many ways to scroe points in this game. Played around with USC's dominant running attack highlighted by Joe McKnight to great success to chucking it around with spread offenses like Florida and Colorado. It just feels so good playing football with all the tools from last gen at your disposal. I find the computer to be a little be easy to pick on Varsity. In my last game I went nuts with Cody Hawkins (OB) from Colorado vs Auburn. My quick stat line was: 34/35 349 yards, 3TDs. It feels so good to be playing in hostile territory where the fans are ruckus and your coach cam is going crazy only to shut them them up with making big plays! :D

Defensively, I am getting much more comfy with the PS3 controller. I was having all kinds of issues adjusting the triggers, but I'm doing all my presnap audibles and hot routes in rapid succession without thinking so much anymore. As a result, I'm starting to play defense much better. I played this one cheeseball that loved to scramble outside the pocket every play and contain defenses are even more formidable this year against that garbage. Good job EA!

I understand there are some issues with the dynasty sim stats, but this game is so fun I can overlook it!

Wow he sure did....can a mod have someone else own the original post? I'd think we need to update the original post with info for rosters, patches etc...

bdoughty let me know he was out of the 360 Dynasty a few days ahead of time before he did, so he might have been planning that meltdown :lol

I'm not even sure any of the mods come in this thread. Hopefully someone will be allowed to update the OP in honor of our fallen hero, bd.

Thread title is hilarious... you think players at big DI schools like Ohio State, LSU, Florida, USC, etc. are not "professionals"?

Anyways, I'm excited about the PSP and PS2 versions. At a more reasonable price point, I might be looking to pick up either one.

So the Dynasty Sim Stats is true? 40 TD's to 1 INT? :(

The only other question I had on my mind is editing player jerseys or whatnot of guys on your team in your Online Dynasty (since I know the commish holds the files of the beginning rosters, etc.).

Damn this thread shot up again. After lots of demo time and reading impressions over at OS it seems the actual gameplay may be back in full force. The downside is that there seem to be lots of little bugs in the dynasty mode. I'm excited for this year's game, but my real hope is that this translates to Madden finally being good this gen.

icing the kicker IS awesome but i want to know if it can work on ANY fg, or only a last second FG.

i'll test it out after my gf is done watching project runway. ugh

Gotta admit I'm glad to see bdoughty go. He ALWAYS seemed like a plant to me. He bashed on Wii software every chance he got, and any time anyone said something even SLIGHTLY critical of NCAA or Madden he would JUMP on them. I was always surprised more people didn't get that sense from him. Maybe I'm wrong, but he always seemed to have a hidden agenda.

That being said, I'm looking forward to NCAA. It seems like they finally ironed out a lot of the problems from the past few years. Presentation and graphics, though, still seem to be lacking.

bdoughty is a cool dude. i used to argue with him all the time since he was more of an NFL2kx fan and i was more into madden, but overtime i saw we were the same! sad to see him go

I read on OperationSports and NCAAstrategies that there are freezing issues when you edit roster files on the PS3. EA is supposedly working on a fix. Oh, looks like Fairdale Kings had the same issue on the 360 version. Hmm...

I saw this last night over at NCAA Utopia. Not a good sign, but that's one of the advantages of all these people getting to play the game so early; they now have a head start with finding the solution to the problem.

Also, I can step up and fill BD's spot in the dynasty if you guys need another reliable player. :)

I personally never had a problem with bdoughty, but as a person who frequented Operation Sports heavily before coming here, this ain't the first the first time he's a had "meltdown" and been banned before.

GQman we've got one more spot in the 360 dynasty, so if you're interested just visit the thread.

Reading comments over at OS and it seems the defense AI does a lot of stupid things.

Check out some of the defensive AI goofs.

Super-Human LBs/DBs have been replaced by Super Stupid LBs/DBs.

Check out my wicked awesome vids for examples of this....

Exhibit A.

A simple pass into the flats. But notice Tray Blackmon, who is closing quickly to make the hit...literally turns around and runs away..for a split second. This allows the RB to easily make the catch and possibly gain some yardage. And no...at no point was I in control of Blackmon.
http://www.easportsworld.com/en_US/video/19264

Exhibit B. Alabama..on their own 1 yard line, runs an end around with Julio Jones. Mike McNeil, the AU Free Safety, is strafing across the field as Julio crosses for the sideline. But does McNeil sprint for the corner...or attack Julio and try and make the tackle? Nope. He stops....yes...stops....and literally stands upright in the middle of the field, not once..but TWICE. This allows the other Bama WR to come over, block him, and the rest is history.

I've played a total of 5 hours, I do enjoy the game, but I have some very serious concerns. The Defense is almost non existent at times and quite frankly, disturbing plays like the ones I posted above have happened in every game I've played so far on Heisman.

I just canceled my preorder and had the funds transferred to madden. I called my local blockbuster and they said they will have it in tuesday so it all worked out.

Nope. Definitely in for one season. I stated clearly that blockbuster will have it day one. You can rent it for 43 days for $8 in store. We should be able to finish by then.

I need to read more but

Example A: Theres alot wrong with this play, but it's not all on the DB nor are any of these problems new. The running back breaks up field and the coverman cuts up field to defend (abeit a lil slow on the cut..but thats probably due to stats). When the QB throws he throws it flat with no lead (which has been a problem with the series since it went 3D). Unfortunately the game still auto warps the receiver to account for this flat throw and the DB is put out of place by this insta catch.

Example B: yeah thats a horrible pathfinding glitch right there. It's calculating angles and decides that has a good bead on the RB for zone containment so it only makes minor adjustments to position. Unfortunately it doesn't pick up the WR. This is one of those things that can go both ways. If you were to call someone in the AI department out on it he'd probably be like "well that SS doesn't have awareness so he didn't pick up the blocker" where i'd say that defensive backs or shit pretty much all players on field don't look for blockers coming from the sides. When i play superstar/legend modes it's very easy to just run up and fuck somebody up and probably rightfully so. Humans only have two eyes. But now that I think about it. Do any defenders attack or even attempt to evade blocks?

Football games are funny to me. Theres alot more going on than most people realize. If they gave any two shits about developing a real, detailed animation system alot of these shitty events could be made understandable or even realistic with just a few extra animations or some kind of detailed blending system.

Like in example A, it wouldn't have been a problem if receivers and the secondary didn't look like they ran on rails. If they made the appropriate cuts to change direction that secondary defender wouldn't have looked like such a retard. You'd know he was cutting in response to that defender. Also the defender would have had to make a more realistic catch attempt at the ball, slowing him up to realistic speeds and giving the defender enough time to recover.

In example B all they would have needed to do is give players (or perhaps just the CPU in this regard) varying running animations for different speeds. Instead of starting and stopping he could have just sped up and slowed down while remaining completely square with the ball carrier. In that event if he were to get blasted from the side you'd understand as he obviously doesn't have his head on a swivel. Now that i look at it again the WR could have made a cleaner block instead of the two of em kind of haphazardly colliding and looking like retards. God this game is in dire need of some true love from a passionate designer.

played my first game in exhibition. here are some facts:

teams: Cal (me) Vs. UCLA (cpu)
difficulty: heisman (with no slider adjustments)
weather: VERY RAINY!

+ graphics are pretty sweet
+ the "forming" of the pocket is better from what i have seen. the blocking is also much better.
+ i didn't see one superhuman play on defense from either team (except me since i am so good!)

+ PA is more realistic. you can run PA without getting sacked immediately after on a consistent basis

- it was on heisman and i absolutely tore the UCLA defense apart. i DID throw 2 int's, but they were just stupid throws. if you take out those 2 ints, i think my only incompletion was a flat out drop on a sharp dig where it hit my WR in the #'s and he didn't even attempt to make the catch

+/- very difficult to run against ucla. probably because it was heisman but i had like a 2.5 YPC average. this doesn't make sense because i was passing all over them so i should have had some open running lanes late!

- there was some slowdown on punt returns. not sure if this was because it was in the rain

- punt/kick returns are too easy. i'm kicking that shit out of bounds in our online dynasty bitches!

i'm kind of torn on the DB/LB AI. while it is great to be able to "thread" passes in tight spots between the CB and the LB (just like in real life!), there are times when these guys SHOULD make the play and don't.

ill screw around w sliders and such later. i will also sim a season to see the stats later tonight!

so far i'm loving the game, but it does have its issues!

French: Do you feel that its legitimately a solid football game so far? Last year it was the consensus early that Madden 08 was awesome as well, and then the tides turned on it after a while.

The main reason I'm wondering is because I'm flirting between an buy it / rent it until madden decision right now :-/

when did the tides turn on madden? i felt from the get-go that it was a VAST improvement over 2007 and a very good game. now of course, the one thing that came up over time was the poor offensive line play. to me, at least on-field GAMEPLAY wise, that is the only major issue with madden 2008. poor offensive line play.

i dont think im really qualified to say NCAA is a good or great game at this point since i have only played 1 game. but i likes what i see!

12 turnover games was when the tide turned for me. Other than that, yes, the game was a vast improvement.

12 turnover games was when the tide turned for me.

they did patch the game that fixed it a bit. i never saw a 12 turnover game, but the LB's and CB's were too good from the get go. still, if you just adjusted your playcalling it was reasonable.

The abortion that was offensive line play like you alluded to :).

but no one actually quit on the game. yeah it was a pain in the ass but you could manage. you can bet your cock ring that there's going to be SOME issue with this years madden, we just dont know what yet ;)

This is why I exclusively play online in my sports games. Versus a human (that can play), that shit would never happen. But yea, that totally sucks for folks that play against the CPU a lot though....

Really? I didn't even know that. I quit on it real quickly. Unfortunately I think cause of work I couldn't join the league that year so vs. CPU was my only option. I tried blocking the fumblitis out but I played one game that literally had 12 turnovers (both teams) and that day it went back.

well they DEFINITELY fixed the fumble problem pretty early on (i think the first week of september)

but they also patched the game in late december to fix the "spider senses" DB AI and the interception issue (with mixed results!)

if you want to join this years madden league you know where to find the thread... buddy!
