Official NCAA 09 thread of Amateurs > Professionals

i'm simming a dynasty season in ncaa right now. i'm on my laptop so i'll post when its done in a few minutes as to what the stats look like.

then after that... online play!

lol the sim stats are pretty insane. here are some highlights:

tim tebow - 209/267, 2849 yards, 33 TD, 1 int, 208 rating
mizzou QB - 4000 yards, 48 TDs, 6 int
texas tech qb - 4409 yards, 57 TDs (!), 12 picks

the other stats look pretty reasonable. RB's are around where they should be (although some of the averages are a little high, 6.0 YPC... i don't follow college so im not sure if this is ordinary or not)

other than the ridiculous QB stats the stats aren't too bad now that im looking through them.

one other ridiculous thing is that tim tebow not only didn't win the heisman with those #'s, he wasn't even nominated! qb for miz, texas tech, byu, and OU were. then a HB from CSU. whateve!

oklahoma plays missouri in the national title game
BYU is 3rd in the bcs rankings with a 12-0 record

oh wellz! online dynasty gogogogogogo!

just played online. welp, the cheesers are already out in force! played a dude who used oregon. here is what his offensive strategy was:

1. shotgun every play
2. if you dont pinch your line, he does QB draw up the middle for a 5 yard gain everytime and doesn't fumble
3. if you do pinch your line, he scrambes outside and waits for someone to get open or just runs it
4. if you do contain outside he just sits back in the pocket since you can't get pressure with 2 lineman
5. every other passing play he will call a wr screen or rb screen and run to the opposite side, then throw to the rb/wr if he can't run it to that side

thank god for online dynasty. oh online performance is good

I have personally seen Tebow and Daniel (the Mizzou QB) put up numbers in one game against Ole Miss where, if they did that for 12 games, would damn near equal those numbers. And I saw a Texas Tech QB throw for 661 yards against Ole Miss a few years ago--that's not a typo or what happened in a game of NCAA on freshman difficulty. That happened in real life. But yeah against real teams that is not very realistic.

Some NCAA RB's will get 6.0 or so.

I just check and it looks like 25 players (RB and WR) averaged at lease 6 ypc in 2007.

FL Wide Out Percy "the beast" Harvin actually averaged 9.2, with New Cowboys RB Flix Jones leading all RB's with a crazy 8.7 ypc. I guess it does help that opposing defenses were worn out from chasing DMC on first and second down. :p

Also, have your tried the custom soundtracks out yet? I can't wait to hear "We be Clubbin" every time I score with The Irish.

I think my fears of Wide Open gameplay meaning crazy offense might have been confirmed. What difficulty level is everyone playing on, AA or Heisman? I need to see what the word is on Operationsports as well.

well i just played USC with CAL and got absolutely destroyed. 48-7 on heisman. their D is so fast, and their offensive line manhandled me. if i rushed 4 men there was nothing i could do, their QB would sit back there like tom brady and pick me apart. if i sent a blitz he would always get the ball off in a nick of time to the open man.

i did pick him once for a TD but the game was way out of hand by that point. they were also PA passing on me for big yardage even in the 4th quarter when they were up by 40+. fucking cheesers!

what i can say so far is that they fixed the overpowered D-line and now we have an over powered O-line!

It always amazes me how fast these guys learn how to exploit an AI flaw online.

I think the guys over at OS are saying the Heisman level is busted and to move down to AA. As for the O and D lines, the developers said they severely (busted) toned down the d-line pressure.

ill screw around with the o-line sliders later.

so far what i can say is that if you are buying this game for the single player you'll probably be disappointed. not to say it's a terrible single player experience but it's just not as fun as playing against a human opponent. a lot of the issues i have are a non-factor against human players, but maybe they will be a non-factor with some good sliders too!

lol thats pretty crazy. how does this stuff not get seen by testers but a FEW people who have the game early are finding it.

hopefully EA has a patch... post haste!

It never ceases to amaze me how OS finds flaws in every single sports game that comes out. Not to discount all the things being found, but it must suck playing a sports game with such a critical microscope that AI bugs here and there kill the game. I'm having a blast playing the game and I can't wait until the rest of you guys get online too. The good sooooo outweighs the bad in this package!

FMT, holler so we can play while the servers are nice and empty. :D

haha damn FMT he gave you the bidness on that stop lol. Every game needs that feature man, love seeing peoples clips.

haha i know he did. i had the angle on him and as i approached the goalline i was hoping he'd just dive. he still would've scored but at least i get the hit on him. there was nothing more i could do! if i call his bluff that he'll stop his progress, i look like an idiot, and if i go full steam ahead and he stops then i whiff.

my CPU buddy still should've helped me out!

p.s. here's a play from my heisman game against UCLA! http://www.easportsworld.com/en_US/video/19757

Where?! I'm in St. Pete and will make the trip.

Google lists it as a KMart, but it's actually a standalone Sears called 'Sears Essentials' on SR60

2130 Gulf To Bay Blvd, Clearwater, FL

It's on the north side of 60.

I saw one w/ Matt Ryan (PS3) on the front and one w/ the dude from Cal on the front (PS2)

Awesome! Thanks a lot, man. I'll be hitting this up after work.

Yeah, I tried "ncaaStrategies" as the username for the Locker, but it said it didn't exist. I'm thinking maybe they'll be out later.

Might have been taken down because of the editing problems they were having with teams disappearing. The issue could be tied with the save file, so I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

EA is working on it though. Here's hoping they can come out with an official word sometime soon.

If you have the PS3 version you're best off not getting any rosters until the patch. Downloading rosters is making PS3's crash or the game freezes. The 360 version doesn't crash but teams get lost stats disappear etc etc etc. I'm going to be playing with QB #12 until all of this gets sorted out.

i have been playing with CDJ's roster and have not had any crashes or glitches. i have my system set to november 1 (since i wanted to play the demo at night a few weeks ago!), surely that can't have anything to do with my lack of seeing glitches?

anyhow, this game is definitely going to need some sliders! it favors the offense too much! i'll test out some sliders later. the only ones ive messed with were o-line pass blocking. i bumped down Human/CPU blocking to 30 with decent results, but still needs more fine tuning!

Is this on AA or Heisman?

i have played a few games on both settings.

basically, playing a ranked game is nearly unplayable from a defensive standpoint. you can't get any type of pass rush, your LB's and CB's will bite on playaction so badly that their assigned man is usually open by a large margin.

it is especially difficult to play against the spread offense because A) there are 4 or 5 receivers in every pattern and b) the one advantage you SHOULD have playing against this offense (getting quick pressure) doesn't happen because lack of pass rush.

so, i will say that ranked (i.e. all american) without sliders is for all intents and purposes broken. but i have had success against the CPU on all american and heisman using sliders.

=\ I actually kinda enjoyed the demo but ended up cancelling my preorder after hearing about the massive glitches. I can wait a week until some crazy white kid has his LSU dynasty erased and snag it on craigslist for like half price.

Also I think I'm going to become a 49ers fan so you guys better get on drafting some Trojans that aren't lineman. I suggest Mark Sanchez to begin with for replacing Jazzhands.

So which version is GAF getting? I've been picking up NCAA on the Xbox for what seems like an eternity now but I have to admit that playing the demo on a DualShock felt "right" again. Now that both versions seem to be on equal footing it is making my decision tough. I'm going to give both demos a whirl again to see if anything jumps out at me before I make any rash decisions. I don't know if I have the energy to run out to Wal-mart at midnight though.

mike williams
dwayne jarrett
darnell bing
reggie bush
matt leinart
dominic byrd

great players, all great!

Williams and Bing are all but done in the league and Jarrett is going to be suspended at the start of this season.

I'll give you the other three though, they're solid.

I'm an Irish fan :p

While the game has bugs I think the offline game on AA will be fun. Looks like the new wide open gameplay is the cause for all of the big plays, but against the CPU I prefer that to the super DB AI. Online will be a bit trickier since sliders will need alot of tweaking.

no one ever said my love of usc was reasonable or showed any results in the nfl.

I totally respect a lot of the detailed analysis going on here, but I gotta tell ya - after playing this game for a week for review (both single player and against a few buddies of mine in the room) I have had nothing but a great time playing the 360 version.

So many good things going on - smooth gameplay, better looking stadiums, nifty sound - that I guess I don't notice as many of the problems that are being referenced here. I have had no WTF moments with guys running in the wrong direction or doing anything stupid. No freezing either. Not that others haven't, obviously. Could also be the haze of playing about 50 different games in 5 days and also trying to write a coherent review. :)

Any and every sports game - even the all time best - have their issues. Play any of them enough and you'll find them. I kind of feel a little bad for the guys who go so far out of their way to find fault in games like this. But that's me.

I won't pimp my review or the site I am writing it for, but suffice to say I'm rating it very highly and will keep playing my Alabama dynasty and my Max Power Campus Legend for a long time.

that is one of the problems going on with people getting it early. they have caused this mass hysteria where everyone thinks the game is somehow unplayable or the worst football game ever. i understand people demand perfection but the game is actually really good. for the SIM guy in me, it does need some tweaking to even out the defense and offense. but overall the game is excellent and i'm certain EA will patch the bugs out and possibly even fine tune some of the gameplay issues!

Why are so many of Penn State's player running away from the ball carrier? Two guy are like five to ten yards ahead of the ball carrier yet they continue to just run strait upfield until bam, they both just turn around at the same time and try to tackle the ball carrier. Also check out the Penn State player in the middle of the field at the 13 second mark. He just decides to turn around and run the opposite direction for no apparent reason. Blurg!
