Anyway, as I've said before, the worldbuilding by JKR is creaky at best. Casting a strong light on it just reveals all the flaws.
What happens if most of the kids who turn up are Hufflepuffs? Do you have 5 Slytherin, a Ravenclaw and 20 Hufflepuffs for the year or would the ones sorted later have to be put in the wrong houses?

*This post has nothing to do with the subject oft his thread*

But I am just absolutely in awe, again, at wtf is going on here. Ironically (unironically?) this has to be one of the most interesting Neogaf threads of all time.

I am not sure if I should be amused, or incredibly concerned that the board has been compromised by AI bots or some crap.

If you are new to the thread, please go back to page one and read the arguments and take note of the screen names involved.

Holy crap. Bravo!

I always just assumed the implication was that in wizarding society, there were roughly even numbers of each kind of wizard so all the houses were always equally populated

Keep the people separate, to each their own, eh?

See how it breaks down? As a kid the idea of a "house of bullies", a "house of nerds", a "House of jocks", etc plays as thats their juvenile experience that life is full of cliques, your identity is external to yourself, and its a nasty tribal gangwar out there.

Now we just have gaf and resetera, makes life easy :p

Why isn't Hermione in Ravenclaw with the other smart kids? How come nepotism is so rife? The hat doesn't even touch Draco's head and he's shoved where his parent went. Every single Weasley no matter their sex or personality goes in the same house.

It was based on JK Rowling's own experiences with English boarding schools and that is how they really are

To this day, places like Eton continue to exist and turn out most of England's politicians and other powerful and wealthy men

Presumably a "Real" school would redistribute kids to keep the houses even, not use a talking hat that is reading minds and seems like the main reason by there are bad wizards in the first place :p

The internal recruitment is another odd thing about the books. Is wizarding a skill that anyone can learn (and the wizards keep the skill mostly to themselves), is it some sort of natural ability, genetic or otherwise, that just has a higher prevalence amongst the wizards, or some totally random phenomenon that chooses it's practitioners? I don't recall this being explored much in the books, other than there are certainly muggles with the gift, wizards with minimal to no talent in it. At least, so far, there are no midiclorians :p

I don't think it's ever explored. You either have the "talent" or you don't. Anyone can be born with or without it. That's what "mudbloods" are, wizards born to muggle parents and also what "squibs" are, non-wizards born to wizard parents

At least no attempt at a pseudo-scientific explanation was ever attempted, unlike George Lucas and The Force 🙄

I've always kind of respected JK Rowling for not trying to get deeply into the weeds with the lore of her world, because the harder you try to come up with reasons for things the most nonsensical it becomes. Just leave it the way it is, no one needs a detailed scientific explanation for magic

The Way of Kings is a super popular lfantasy novel where a large percentage of the main cast has darker skin.

But no, let's race swap established characters in a franchise that has already been mailked to death.

As someone who is big fan of Sanderson Cosmere Universe, Wind and Truth wa a disappointing book. I loved the heavy lore drops but my issue is that this is the book where there was a heavy emphasis on a romance that came out of nowhere and in this book I found Shallan extremely annoying.

Kaladin and Shallan has mental disorders like Depression and DID, but they were written well. Nowadays as much as I love Stormlight Archive and even before WAT came out, he was making all the characters have a disability where it kind of felt two dimensional. Hell there's

Reneran who he made both autistic and GAY. With a interspecies romance. I was rolling my eyes at that a TON

And BTW I actually love the plot twists and plot of WAT but those other things I mentioned put a damper on things for me

I'm still gonna to keep up to date on the Cosmere but I'm less hyped for each release than I was due to Wind And Truth.

And the reason why I'm bringing this up is that J K Rowling is dealing with a similar situation where she has to concede and appease her own side despite her being liberal. Now that's weird to me

I heard that with Sanderson was basically being told to put more diversity in his books by certain people who works at the book publisher he stays in contact with.

As much as I love Harry Potter and even lot of the lore. She's not really good at magic systems. The magic is just limitless and doesn't have any consequences. It's weird really but what I loved about the books is how they grew up with the audience. The later books became much darker in tone

Also Midiclorians are my favorite part of Star Wars Lore 👀

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
I'm looking forward to the part in the show where Harry Potter's dad bullies the black kid for being poor, and tries to tie a rope around his neck and hang him from a tree.

Yeah that's gonna to be funny to see the reaction especially since James ended up cucking Snape. Snape has always been one of my top five Harry Potter characters from the books. And a big thing is his unrequited love for Lily. I found it interesting how Rowling revealed that about Snape in the last book after he dies. I love Snape but he was always the ultimate SIMP

Hell even with the Harry Potter sequel book called The Cursed Child. Harry Potter has a son that goes to an alternate timeline where Hermonie is a teacher at Hogwarts and Ron ended up marrying Lavender Brown. Result being she ended up acting exactly as Snape was acting like in the Harry Potter books. She was basically the female Snape in that timeline

I don't think J K Rowling wrote that book and I'm pretty sure it was just the screenplay that they released. I forgot the full details lol
