Path of Exile 2 - THE Game to Save Gaming

Men_in_Boxes Men_in_Boxes !!! How has this game gone under your radar! This is clearly poised to be the next live service juggernaut yet I've barely seen you post in its threads!

I'am sure it's got nothing to do with it being a primary single player game eh!😏
I have nothing against single player games as long as they’re pushing creativity forward and not rehashing game design of the past. The human element of games is too exciting right now. A slightly different Diablo feels like an affront to God himself so it doesn’t register on my radar. I’ll take a deeper look if it has exceptional player metrics a year or two from now, which would tell me it’s doing something interesting I wasn’t able to see from my Birds Eye view.

$30 to pay early access. Can skip. Actual game is F2P.

Don't have $30 and already bought stuff in PoE1? You may have gotten in for 100% free. (I checked my profile and they gave it to me for free)

I have a total of 5 keys. Gave one to a friend. Going to use one for PS5 access, and one for myself on PC. The extra 2 I'll either give away here or to other buddies who want in.

I don't think we need to defend GGG practices. They are a pretty solid company who puts out good content with a fair micro transactions scheme. Blizzard gives you a $40 "expansion" that is half assed at best (for example).

I am really pumped for the EA but will grab it on the 6th after confirmation the servers are in decent shape. I really do think this will be a true evolution of the genre after how cookie-cutter d4 ended up being.

Gave in and spent the $30 for the EA key. Can't wait for this game. D4 was such a let down that I played D3 more after launch. I never got too big on the first PoE game, so I've installed it just to have something to kill time and cure the arpg itch.

In the FAQ on their website, they say that early access is given to people who have spent at least 480$ on POE1.

So you didn't get an early access for free, you got it by buying at least 480$ of products on their 1st game.
If that's the case we're talking whale management not generosity.

PoE1 came out in 2013 genius.

Me spending $480 in 11 years is $44/year roughly.

And the game has given me thousands of hours of play lol.

What’s the inverse of a company gouging players? Because I’ve massively ripped off GGG. All this fun for next to nothing.

I pity retards who can’t see the light. Behold the messiahs of video games. Kojima is a false prophet. Todd is a sinner. Miyamoto sucks dicks. Embrace the new omnipotent overlords.

It seems you don't know the level of success this game already has.

And POE2 already has more pre-orders than the record number of concurrent players for POE on Steam.

Quick question, when you go back to towns and cities to speak to npcs, are there other players running around too? I really dislike that to be honest

Same here. All that does in those games for me is: “hey that character looks exactly like mine…” or “these guys are way higher level/gear”.

I can already see the mixed steam reviews on the 6th, because the servers will be on fire. If you are one of those people, dont buy this on the 6th so you dont have to complain about it. Everyone else knows what to expect on a big launch like this

More specifically - "these guys have spent way more money than me" - in poe, leveling and gear doesn't significantly change a character's appearance for the better; only paid skins do.

Rant time:

It's also why there's no "Mute Other Player Effects" audio option to prevent hearing that hideous Goblin Troupe thing in every public space. For those who don't know, it's this pet mtx that makes some shitty ragtime scatting noise every 3 seconds, interrupting the otherwise-excellent NPC voicework and town music. GGG is not going to improve it as their stated position is "Players paid for MTX to troll with and we want to make sure they can".

I had forgotten but that's actually the single reason why I stopped playing Poe 1.
Since it will be there pretty much day 1 from Poe 2 I expect it to make first-playthroughs similarly annoying.

This you?

Also the original is 10 years old and still getting pudates as it has an active player base.

Yes but PoE numbers, while healthy, don’t do enough to grab my attention. It’s a Diablo clone and I’m not particularly interested in Diablo so the metrics need to be exceptional to grab my attention. PoE and PoE2 might be great for gamers who enjoy that genre but there’s nothing exciting about them for me.

PoE was always good in that, because of the insane league updates every 3 months. I wouldnt worry about that here
It’s not that I’m worried about PoE or PoE 2, I’m just not interested in it. It would need to have shocking long term player engagement metrics for me to take a closer look. I’m sure the franchise is great for people who like those sorts of games.

You have a very strange way of deciding what games you want to play.

Long term high levels player engagement/retention is not high on my list of must haves when I'm deciding on what to play.

Whatever works for you I suppose.

It's still not free is it ?
And you've spent at minimum 480$ because you've said that you had 5 keys...

Lucky for you to have 4 entirely free keys after only spending 480$ it's clearly a bargain !

Can you explain how can I put my hands on those free keys you got ?

Thanks !

Man, I was going to make a jank Paladin since Templar is a ways out but Auras don't affect you, only allies?! Lame. Here is to hoping there is a support gem that makes them affect you. Not playing a Cleric, I am playing a selfish loner Warrior.

So, I agree. I mean, yes, if you spent thousands of hours and have been playing for 11 years it was worth it and GGG deserve it, this "free" game isn't free at all. It's free to try. Once you devote some time and decide to beat the campaign, you essentially need more stash tabs and a separate material stash as well. By then, it costs the same as normal game if not more(I ended up paying as much as maybe 3 games by now and I only played for 150 hours). The normal in game armor sets are also pretty putrid looking in PoE 1 ensuring people shell out for cosmetic armors and effects. I expect the same in PoE 2. It sucks, but they have to make money somehow.

GGG were smart. By making it seem like it's free they gain a lot of good will and people get really generous, especially the whales. Their system is genius. I am fine with whales doing their thing because they help fund awesome graphics and cinematics and continued development instead of stagnation like what happened to D3.

$500 odd dollars over 10 years for a few thousand odd hours of gaming is a bargain.

And yes the keys were free as they didn't have to give them away. Nice touch from the dev's if you ask me.

What would you consider exceptional metrics?

Path of Exile 1 has had very robust concurrent players. It recently peaked in June this year.

Still not decided on what class to play.

Chronomancer Sorcerer is super interesting, but I think its gonna be hard.

Mercenary looks like tons of fun. Probably what I'm leaning to the most right now.

Monk looks cool as well.

And then there's this video:

So, I have the Pro, so I was going to also purchase for PS but any transaction(mtx) you buy on Steam/GGG won't be usable on PSN or vice versa. That SUCKS. Guess I will go with Xbox.

"Unfortunately, any purchases made on PlayStation platforms cannot be used on other platforms, and purchases made on other platforms cannot be used on PlayStation platforms. Note that these purchases can still be on the same sub-account, but the microtransactions will be marked as unavailable when viewing them in your stash."

I'm going to try very hard to stick to Warrior. I just want that Soulsy feel. Slow walking while hiding behind my shield until I get the mechanics and passive tree down. Then I will be more wreckless with some Monk or Ranger action. I am bad about making too many characters in these games, especially if I find loot for another class. A unique Staff drops, boom, I am making a Sorc or Witch. :D

Bummer. Don't games like Overwatch, Rocket League and Fortnite have this functionality?
