I’ve bought a shed load of PS5 VR games and they are all amazing.
I’m legit confused why PSVR2 isn’t more successful.

It needed more hybrid games IMO. If it had Elden Ring, and dozens of others (if PSVR1 had Skyrim, no reason why PSVR2 can't have it's epic RPG), it'd definitely have more eyes towards it. I think until there's a reliable steady release of hybrid games, where you can buy the device and not have to wonder if they'll ever be releasing another AAA type game you want to play on it, then it's a harder sell.

Other reasons are always comfort/space/outside heat/, and desire to VR in the first place (this also includes not being able to understand what makes VR different without doing it as well as just trying it and enjoying it, but finding it too much effort/work to keep up with), and money.

make sure the pudding isn't too soggy but that just ruins everything
They need to just release all kinds of games (third person, etc) on VR and they are pretty dumb (imo) for not doing so. I think some of the enthusiasts who’ve loudly clamored for “VRAF” have done some unintentional harm. Especially since PSVR2 offers some novel ways to experience traditional games (any and every genre) thanks to extra, intuitive control options like head/eye/hand tracking and innate immersiveness of the platform. Sure, Elden Ring would probably be cool in first person. But you have to practically remake the darn game.

Regular Elden Ring in VR would also be cool. Way more immersive (the world literally surrounding you) than traditional and all those options devs would have to play with world scale, or the hardware features. For example, how about using eye tracking to control the lock-on? Just look at the dudes you want to swing at, or dodge away from? Natural and not clunky. Or being able to control camera by just, you know, looking around? I always remap every Souls game’s controls so as to have complete camera control while moving and attacking. It hurts my soul to know the majority of you guys have never experienced what it feels like to actually control the camera while sprinting and dodging. (Dodge on circle, I shudder at the thought.) PSVR2 fixes this, practically out of the box.

Just sayin… PSVR2 is basically every video game technology and gimmick in one package. It’s all of the things… put everything on it. EVERYTHING.

Edit: I should actually amend this with one fact I always forget: Sony fucked up by not putting a dpad on the controllers, so that does genuinely create compatibility issues you’d have to account for / design around (adding work / cost) unfortunately.

Maybe the Pro will allow more hybrids? I’m guessing it could be a headache on the base PS5, when it can’t run the game perfectly in potato mode. I’d imagine those who can afford PSVR2 can also afford the Pro, and releasing stuff like ER would actually give folk more reason to invest in both.

Potential win-win for Sony?

Thats awesome. There really is no shortage of great games, especially if you have an open mind and have a bit of patience with learning thr mechanics.

I think a big issue is that the VR community is small and its so easy for games to be near universally dogpiled over things that are user error. Take a glance at PSVR reddit, people are so gun shy about simply buying a game they are interested in. Its like an abused dog who is frightened of its own shadow. As a gaming enthusiast, its honestly sad to me.

I agree with this. I think the VR community needs to relax with the VRAF stuff too. VR is an absolutely amazing technology, but we need to stop creating such a hardline in the sand with this stuff, so big developers will be more interested in adding VR to their games.

Battlefield for example would be amazing in VR, even if you just used a regular controller to play it and it would help spur adoption. Then down the road we can start attempting the VRAF stuff.

I love this technology and I want it to succeed.

I absolutely agree. I really don't need VRAF all the time, actually I usually prefer something more simple akin to Resi 8. I find VRAF games way more tiring, though it is pretty awesome in some moments, and that's a big problem rn in my life (way too tired and busy all the time 🙄).

Exactly this, main reason I play vr is immersion that you are "inside" in game, vraf is nice addition but not that necessary + even 3rd camera view easy hybrid ports would be welcome

Performance is definitely concern and would lead to some trade-offs in fidelity… I don’t honestly know how much implementing PSVR2’s foveated rendering would claw back, but hey at least it’s a capability of the hardware. And more is typically better lol.

yeah I know but it could be just copy paste from ps4 version :pie_thinking:
No GIF

Let me dream. Lol.

For real though, they need to address this.

Foveated rendering, crossplay with flat version sounds good tough reprojection. Would be awsome if sony created new machine learning based reprojection algorithm for ps5pro
Hopefully, considering it is a dark title, the reprojection won't be that bad. Still, nice to know it will have DRF and a good resolution, which imo makes the reprojection worth it (I hate low res VR titles, but I can deal with reprojection).

This is what I like about VR. We get these weird games that feel like they'd be a modern day 6th generation title. Some of them might only be 7/10s or whatever but they fill a void of escapism that the traditional publishers won't risk because of quarterly quotas. They can't really dream big so they just remaster everything and play it safe. This has a cool art style and feel. I hope its good.

I’m in boys, just picked it up in anticipation of getting the Pro. Was having some weird connection problems with games not picking up the left controller. Solved it by stating the games without the controllers on and using dual sense to launch, which fixed for Pavlov and Horizon, but RE4 and 8 demos still won’t completely recognize either controller, so can’t start them

Batman about to get some competition

Hopefully! One thing that surprised me about Batman is just how many people are saying it has the best story of the series (all the flat games). And I really like how it's said you have an active role in discovering the plot, instead of stuff just happening as you move about the paths. And the combat is fun as hell from what little I've played so far.

But hopefully the hits keep coming, certainly Behemoth looks visually great and has some serious pedigree behind it!

I'm not saying that's not the case since I don't have the game yet, but I remember I stopped following him because he is way too extreme in some cases. And after watching Jimmy's video, this appears to be the case once again. The game could and should be better from a technical point from what I saw, but calling it a "hot garbage" sounds way too harsh and makes me wonder if he is just doing these types of videos just to get some extra clicks. I absolutely hate this approach.
