People forget Romney was a pretty good debater in the primaries and has a ton to hit Obama on.
Why wait? Why keep making accusations that have been proven demonstrably false (again and again and again) if he has a ton of legitimate criticisms of Obama? Or is this another one of those, "I can't tell you before I do it, because then you'll make valid criticisms about why I shouldn't do it" Romney excuses?

But we got that great vague Obama Supports Abortion and Gay Marriage billboard!
+1 Saw those over the weekend o_0

Chuck Todd just said with a straight face that republicans think Ohio is slipping away, and that they are now betting on Wisconsin as their path to 270...and he agreed with the strategy...

Laughable math

Give up OH for WI? That's a net loss of 8 EVs. What kind of path to 270 are the Romney camp thinking? Shitty math indeed.

Here we go again, SMH

People forget Romney was a pretty good debater in the primaries and has a ton to hit Obama on. It'll be interesting to see Obama defending his record versus just running on lofty rhetoric.

What? He could barely debate that barrel of chucklefucks. He was visibly about to pop numerous times. He had one decent debate and then fired his coach right after that. Is this bizzaro world, because I can't wait for the debates because it forces Romney to stop running on lofty rhetoric (well, lofty rhetoric and complete and utter fabrications).

Stealth Turk brag? Drink any Lion's Milk? I'm a fan of Turks & their food.

Nah, more of a stealth OSU brag. (I also make a point of drinking lion's milk every time I eat Greek or Turkish food...)

but who knows whether the SCOTUS would decide to take over the election process again. Probably not, since Republicans control the house anyway

Granted, in that case it only happened because Clay and Crawford siphoned so many votes away from Jackson in Ohio and Kentucky (to say nothing about the fact that six states still treated popular vote as a joke), but that's besides the point: if a tie happened today I'm fairly sure the supporters of the candidate who won the popular vote would actually riot if the House elected the other guy.

It'll be interesting to see Obama defending his record versus just running on lofty rhetoric.

I would make a quip about Romney defending his record instead of just running on lofty rhetoric, but that'd force me to forget that Romney's policy positions only pass muster if you don't look past lofty rhetoric.

Exactly, Romney stinks at debating. He has always stunk at debating, he gets too emotional the minute he is challenged.

Pick any debate with Perry and Romney had to fight back losing his shit.

He has no charisma and he stands for nothing, he gets irritated the minute someone presses him on an issue. If the GOP side can push his buttons and they are the same team then Obama is going to have a goddamn field day.

I'd still call it a statistical improbability. Completely different times, especially considering any other candidate received a fraction of a percent of the national vote.

We choose respect over love? WTF does that even mean? I guess it might have helped if I saw the speech but I don't quite see how that can make sense.

That big red block reminds me of a Wendy's drive-through menu..

Mmm... biggie frosty..

I haven't been a Wendy's in a while but I loved the fact that they started letting you choose a salad instead of fries in the package meals and I love that they give out hot oil to add to the Chili and make it taste good.

The PEC released their Senate forecast today. The Democrats are favored to retain control; thank you, Todd Akin. But it's decidedly unlikely they'll gain seats. According to current estimates, at least.

So even with voter id, no one is giving him PA. lol
No. Voter restriction laws are egregious, but the effect on turnout is probably marginal; at most, it would reduce turnout by 2%. And although the effect is asymmetric, it will diminish Republican turnout, too. So, unless PA tightens considerably, Obama is safe irrespective of the voter restriction law.

Not everything has worked out. . . . but he could talk about:

-Ending the war in Iraq.
-Put up a massive graphic of the stock market gains since he took office.
-Put up a graphic of corporate profits too.
-Mention that a certain guy named Usama Bin Laden is swimming with the fishes
-Put up a huge graph showing that oil production increases (Deal with it environmentalists, if it helps him get elected that is much better than Romney)
-Mention the VERY LOW COST operation that deep sixed Reagan's nemesis, Mumamar Ghadaffi
-Put up a huge graph showing the crash of natural gas prices and recommend that people move off oil heat to natural gas if possible (Again, deal with it environmentalists)

Yeah, he should be damn proud to run on that record. OK, unemployment is still too high . . . we are working on it. It is a world-wide slow-down, so it is not easy.

I wonder if the GOP is going to alienate some old people that suddenly find out that they can no longer vote because the GOP decided to screw them.

They are playing a dangerous game. The people that were never going to vote them are going to say "Fuck these mother-fuckers" and NEVER vote for them.
The people that were going to vote for them may reconsider.

quick comment on that onion article: it's clearly a metaphor about john mccain killing off any last respectable part of his legacy by supporting mitt romney and/or the current republican platform. it's couched in some vivid language, but step back and it's pretty obviously a lament of how not-mavericky mccain really ended up being. sad.

Perhaps, although I'm doubtful it will engender a backlash from seniors. Nevertheless, it will reduce their turnout nominally, at least, as seniors are vulnerable to the restrictions. So their ploy is not devoid of risk.

http://news.yahoo.com/condoleezza-rice-hits-obama-foreign-policy-020948614.html
Condoleezza Rice never addressed President Obama by name, but the former secretary of state delivered a sharp rejection of his foreign policy tonight, charging that the White House had forsaken past and potential allies, leaving the world to wonder, "Where does America stand?"

"When our friends and our foes, alike, do not know the answer to that question," she told the Republican National Convention, "the world is a chaotic and dangerous place."
Let's all listen to the National security advisor who was about to give a speech about how important missile defense was . . . but then airplanes hijacked by a terrorist she ignored started flying into our buildings. Thanks, Ms. National Security Advisor.

Rice picked up on a theme laid out earlier tonight by Sen. John McCain who warned that "if America doesn't lead, our adversaries will, and the world will grow darker, poorer and much more dangerous." Rice criticized the president for taking a backseat to NATO during the battle for Libya and not doing more to stop the bloodshed in Syria.
Awww . . . did Obama embarrass you by showing us how we could deal with a dictator without destroy the nation's finances? Loser.

Be happy you were never prosecuted for war crimes.

Gov. Mitt Romney's campaign toasted its top donors Wednesday aboard a 150-foot yacht flying the flag of the Cayman Islands.

The floating party, hosted by a Florida developer on his yacht "Cracker Bay," was one of a dozen exclusive events meant to nurture those who have raised more than $1 million for Romney's bid.

The Cracker Bay is owned by Gary Morse, developer of the Villages retirement community. Companies controlled by Morse gave nearly $1 million to the pro-Romney Restore Our Future superPAC.

Romney to date has declined to identify the names of his top "bundlers" -- those who gather checks from scores of donors on the candidate's behalf.

"He is the first nominee in 12 years to withhold these names," said Sheila Krumholz, executive director of the Center for Responsive Politics, which tracks political money on the website opensecrets.org.

How much of what she said does Rice actually believe? As a former diplomat does she really think the US should lead with force into all these different circumstances when an international approach is better? For some reason I never thought of her as among the most hardcore "boots on the ground" faction of the Bush administration.

What she advocated doesn't necessarily require unilateralism (thus internationalism is an option). She seems to be for America: World Police, but on the basis that having some world police is better than none, and if there has to be a world police, it might as well be us.

I can't blame her on that account. If we have voluntary warriors worthy of answering the call, we should, if we can in good conscience.

You must be in a really thick bubble to think that because America isn't preemptively invading countries left and right that our allies don't like us anymore.

Then again, John McCain's line about us failing Israel shows lack of world leadership was amusing too. If Israel is telling us what to do how is that leadership on our part?

So Ryan's speech was full of lies too.

If Romney wins, it will be sad to see.

Although I marked at least seven or eight points I’m sure the fact checkers will have some opportunities to dispute if they want to go forward, I’m sure they will. As far as mitt romney’s campaign is concerned, paul ryan on this night delivered.

No, Wolf. If the guy lies 8 times in a 40 minute speech, he did not deliver anything. This is the guy who all said will tell us hard truths and serious shit. What we got is a bunch of falsehoods and no hard truths.

So, I was looking at Intrade today. I see Scott Brown with a 60% chance to win in MA. What is Warren doing wrong there? Obama is going to win that state by a lot. Why wouldn't folks just vote a straight ticket?

PS: I have only seen Intrade wrong 3 times. Pujols deal, Healthcare ruling and one other thing. I've never seen it wrong about stuff that can be polled..

"Sometimes they just make things up," the president said of the ads, referring to them as "an avalanche of attack ads and insults and distractions."

He cited a published comment from Romney campaign pollster Neil Newhouse: "We're not going to let our campaign be dictated by fact-checkers."

Mr. Obama said he took that to mean the Romney campaign policy is "we will not let the truth get in the way."

Wonder if he will call Mitt out directly for it during debates.

Also, lol @ Jan Brewer. She's just dreamin' of Obama in her bed, tis all.

No one on CNN has the balls to run with the lies. The local news, nightly news, and CNN need to do it, but won't so it doesn't matter. Only the Obama ads can do it.

She's a cold fish. The native American thing. And Scott Brown is pandering hard and pushing the 'moderate Republican' thing pretty hard. She better put something together if she wants to win. What she is doing clearly isn't working.

Democratic voters simply are largely not as "progressive" as dailykos. I actually like Warren but I have doubts over whether she would make an effective Senator (I would vote for her just to get her vote for Majority leader). She is an extremist on the opposite end of Rand Paul (who is also a worthless Senator). Brown is viewed as a moderate who crossed the aisle on a few big votes

I just don't get why someone would vote Obama and not Warren. It makes no sense to me. If you want Obama to get things done (if he does get re-elected), he will need Warren

I agree.

How is Elizabeth Warren extremist?

By taking the extreme left on every position. That's the entire basis for her popularity. I'm not using it as a derogatory term.

edit: I'm talking within the US political system. You can certainly get further to the left of Warren, but such positions are not even heard in the US

That's what I'm saying. She is not an "extremist" to anyone voting Obama lol

But she is far left and out of touch to many voters in MA, which is saying something. Scott Brown is moderate enough to beat her because of that. Edward Kennedy was obviously far left as well, but he connected with voters. Warren seems so awkward and professorial it's not hard to see why someone as personable as Brown is beating her, despite the state being so solidly blue.

She needs to work on her image. Scott Brown has been able to bamboozle some people driving around in his pick-up truck. Never mind that he rakes in millions from Wall Street firms.

She's this ivory tower academic claiming to help the little guy while pulling in $400K for teaching a few classes at an Ivy league school. And the native American thing has blown up in her face. So it is not going well for her.

Often NeoGAF makes light of the GOP's hilarity. While reading one of the local weekly papers I came across this piece from Patrick Buchanan. As of late he's been critical of the Republican Party and he attempts to explicitly describe the party as slowing to a crawl.

The bolded block quote, as our weekly selects them:

The GOP's insoluble problem is that the multicultural, multiethnic and multilingual country they created with their open borders appears not to like the brand of the dog food the party sells.

The country "they" created with "open borders"? Anyway, some choice ones of my own:

Where are the Republican and neocon hawks of yesteryear now that Barack Obama is pulling out of Afghanistan, when the expected result of a U.S. withdrawal is a Taliban takeover and massacre of many of those Afghans foolish enough to have cast their lot with the Americans?

Milton Friedman, whose writings once read as gospel, said we should throw America's markets open to the world,...because cheaper imports benefit all of America's consumers. No Republican talks like that anymore. Yet none seems to have a solution to these endless trade deficits debilitating our economy other than to ignore them or accuse the Chinese of "currency manipulation."

With homosexual marriage gaining converts among the young, the party of the Moral Majority declines to stand with Chick-fil-A....On right-to-life, see the Republicans flee from Todd Akin, who committed a gaffe while restating his support for what has been a plank of the Republican platform since 1980.

Any thoughts? While the headline's sentiment is easy bait for readers and I don't agree with all of his conclusions, I think that there is legitimacy to the idea that the Republican Party is ideologically toothless today. I am of the impression however, that Buchanan would want the Republican Party to embrace is conservativeness in response.

Buchanan is the crazy Grandpa that people don't want to admit to. He was the token crazy conservative on MSNBC until he got too crazy and go thrown off. And the GOP doesn't want to hear his crazy either. As Pat points out, they are running away from crazy Akin . . . they certainly don't want to deal with crazy Grandpa Pat.

But it is a weird mix of crazy. It is mostly far right stuff . . . but he often hints at tariffs. I generally feel that would be a far-left thing but with Pat saying it . . . perhaps it could be considered far-right. Sort of a national security or nativism kind of thing.

2. Deceiving

On the other hand, to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention to facts, Ryan’s speech was an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech. On this measure, while it was Romney who ran the Olympics, Ryan earned the gold.

The good news is that the Romney-Ryan campaign has likely created dozens of new jobs among the legions of additional fact checkers that media outlets are rushing to hire to sift through the mountain of cow dung that flowed from Ryan’s mouth. Said fact checkers have already condemned certain arguments that Ryan still irresponsibly repeated.

<<fact check snipped>>

3. Distracting

And then there’s what Ryan didn’t talk about.

Ryan didn’t mention his extremist stance on banning all abortions with no exception for rape or incest, a stance that is out of touch with 75% of American voters.

Ryan didn’t mention his previous plan to hand over Social Security to Wall Street.

Ryan didn’t mention his numerous votes to raise spending and balloon the deficit when George W. Bush was president.

Ryan didn’t mention how his budget would eviscerate programs that help the poor and raise taxes on 95% of Americans in order to cut taxes for millionaires and billionaires even further and increase — yes, increase —the deficit.

These aspects of Ryan’s resume and ideology are sticky to say the least. He would have been wise to tackle them head on and try and explain them away in his first real introduction to voters. But instead of Ryan airing his own dirty laundry, Democrats will get the chance.

That war is over, isn't it?

Their big move was to try a "divide and conquer" plan by drawing a line at 55 years old. The gambit appears to be failing.

I still think it is hilarious that the GOP's biggest constituency (old people) are the biggest government program welfare queens on the planet. Good luck getting them to carry your Ayn Rand banner, Mr. Ryan!

Why are we counting out North Carolina? It's close, yes, but it still seems to seem much more likely than a state like FL.

And really, if he gets that it would negate WI and then some. VA + NC is 28 EV's, that's a nice buffer to make up for a lot of things (i.e. losing PA if voter ID turns out to be worst case scenario for Dems).
