Sony needs it cause console prices are out of reach for casuals.

Nintendo needs it cause a separate handheld/desktop system will result in better design/ less compromises.

For xbox, it served well enough, helped spread gamepass, got a bunch of people into ecosystem. They simply aren’t as interested in console business, which is reasonable. It did well under those constraints.

Still, you can have PC more powerful than Pro (with 2TB NVME drive, 4070, 32GB RAM and 5500 CPU) for ~930 Euro vs. 800 on Pro. Worth it, not worth it? Anyone can decide on their own but price difference isn't big at all.

I called it. Same thing happened with the PS4 Pro. it was down to $340 a week after launch for black friday sales.

I got ps4 pro launch day and dont remember any price drops here in UK soon after.

see, I used to think this, but we are on our 3rd straight generation with price increases and no price decreases.

The Switch is the same price or more expensive it was in 2017. I know the price of the PS5 Pro is high but I don't see why Sony would be the one to exert downward pressure when Nintendo is selling this ancient as fuck technology at such a high price. I think companies would rather see slightly lower sales and ad-hoc discounts than lower the price.

pricing something is always balancing a number of different elements and accepting trade-offs. The old model of getting the price of hardware down as quickly as possible to drive as large an audience as possible doesnt holds like it used to and it hasnt for a while.

The Switch is an expensive system for what it is. Probably more expensive relatively. If this was the early 2000s you could get one for $129 at this point.

I can promise you my comments are genuine. It's fine to not believe me but if you saw my house you would see that I am genuinely being honest that I want one.

I genuinely just find the product as a bit of an insult not including the disk drive. That's just my thoughts on it. I never thought they would only offer a digital version. I think it's slimy. Simply that.

Another thing is the disc drive. Which is an even worse deal when $80 USD somehow equals to £100. Wtf is up with that pricing. Converted that nearly $130, granted VAT is already added.
