PS5 Pro Has Reignited my enjoyment of Consoles

for that reason portal is crap.
They made a device that is ALL ABOUT THE SCREEN. There is nothing else on this thing.... and they gave it an sdr lcd and don't even have auto off hdr function on ps5
That's a bit of a stretch.

The convenience of Portal far outweighs any of it's shortcomings, imo. As I have a family, 90% of my gametime is spent on Portal.

Despite it's SDR 1080p LCD screen, it's still able to display great visuals. Even more so with PS5 Pro.

It's just that there is room for improvement.

What games have you played? I feel like every game I've played has a difference (though in fairness, most of them are Sony's games, but still).
Marvels Spider-Man
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
Horizon Forbidden West
The Last of Us Pt1
Stella Blade
Assassin's Creed Mirage
Alan Wake II ( the ray tracing is actually bad in this)
Lies of P (improvements)
Rise of Ronin (improvements)
I mean if you've forced yourself to play with shit IQ for 4 years to get 60fps then I'm sure the difference is big.
But I chose game by game so I'm accustom to what the games look like in both modes.
So I expect improvements across the board, not just getting performance mode close to quality mode IQ and that's...it.
PS4 Pro had improved Resolution, Frame rate, textures, shadows, draw distance, Anisotropic filtering, AA.
It even down sampled games for 1080p TV's giving it a fantastic picture
the list goes on.
In fact some games actually looked bad on the base PS4 compared regardless of frame rate.
That's not the case here.
PS5 Pro is so far is just almost Quality Mode IQ at 60fps.
And the only game that does something different is Alan Wake II and it's not very good.
the biggest problem with Sony's games is they already had fantastic IQ, they needs to be more.

I'm happy for you op. I decided to build a small form factor pc as I do not have any issues with pc gaming. I choose auto update in windows. Periodically I click update graphics driver on nvidua app and then I click install game and play game.

Maybe there's some other strange pcs that aren't this simple to use.

Also, on console gaming. For me my love never needs reigniting i just like playing good games. If its on the switch or Xbox or ps5.

I also find it strange how fast users are making comments like the ps5 was a failed first draft and pro feels like next gen after all the hoopla about how special and truly next gen the ps5 was and is thanks to Cerny magic. Is Cerny good or are you all, that make these kinds of statements just hypocrites?

Happy with my ps5s now and will buy a pro when I see new exclusive games that push the window vs base ps5.

More like there is a select few GAF PC gamers here telling you that the value proposition isn't there, while also telling you how great a 4090 is. That's where we are.

Besides, none of those people could build a system for $700 that matches the Pro, so that's also where we are.

This is that mentality that i struggle with and can't understand how other users don't understand my rhought process, and i guess many others.

Look, PC is like the complete open source do almost anything you want with your hardware.

I can spend 2 grand on a gpu and that seem more of a value proposition than a 700 dollar console.

I really can't get how people can't understand that.

I can professionally edit movies, photos, create music. Basically work on a pc.

On top of that, my true love is gaming and then I can do all that while having full control of where I purchase games, free online, emulation the list goes on and on and on with a pc.

Consoles, you have in the case of Sony an over priced digital store which they are attempting to force you on to with pro and a closed system. I'd pass on a perceptive ease of use (maybe for teenagers and those with any competent skills with tech) for the pc experience.

So when I look at a pc vs console the value proposition is so far from a level playing field that you can't make these comments about a pc component vs console pricing imo.

Ffs triple post. Apologies.

You can do all of that with a phone, or a 10 year old PC

Anyone shelling out thousands for a modern high end GPU is largely doing it for gaming, full stop.

Yup, he's DenchDeckard in blue form

I really don't think you're going to be around here much longer if you carry on like you are.

Fast become the worst Sony shill on here and are spoiling the forum.

Good luck.

So it's not secret that the PS5 pro is a divisive topic some.consider it too expensive whilst others don't really care for the improvements it makes to visuals over the base model.

As for me I am very happy for multiple reasons but one of them came a bit unexpected.

As many I have also got a top end gaming PC that can run every game at native 4k120fps and to be honest I was moving away from consoles altogether feeling as if the experience is hampered and the ability of the PS5 was weak.

Now I have my Pro I find myself happier to sit down and just play shit. There is a certain magic to a console that a PC or even Steam Big Picture mode simply can't match.

There's a few small things like the initial boot of the pc with all my additional tools opening in the background and the windows log in (can't be auto logged in for some reason I've tried) to the random situation where games don't launch (crew motorfest won't start cos of some random error I can't be arsed to fix). I have come to re-appreciate waking the console from rest and things just work.

I really wasn't into the ps5 as of late due to compromises in visuals as in the whole fidelity vs performance thing. Performance modes have always looked like ass to me but I will always choose them for 60fps.

Now the pro has launched I'm once again drawn to the ease of use. Of course it's not matching my PC blow for blow but it's certainly close enough that it's both impressive and easy.

So I'm kind of interested in others opinions on this. Maybe it's the initial hype or new toy syndrome or maybe the hardware iteration is what made the difference.

I am a huge fan of my PC and will likely still double dip moving forwards but I can absolutely appreciate the ease and the comparative quality upgrade the pro has brought. pssr is a game changer for consoles and I hope in the future it gets better and better.

Has anyone else enjoyed a mini resurgence on their console or have you made the change to PC and your not interested anymore?

Peace.
Just enjoy it OP :) Thats the point of games enjoying it like back in the days when you were a kid. Im there to, if you can afford one its a no brainer (all games look and play better). Keep up the positive spirit up buddy.

It’s streaming based in order to play full fidelity ps5 games in handheld form. Not truncated to 1080p sdr on lcd. Coming from playing on oled it’s noticeable.
The whole device is fine. I like the form factor and how it works. It’s really just the screen being a deal breaker

OP still hasn't told us exactly what PC he owns that can play every game ever natively at 4K120fps.

Such a PC doesn't exist.

Yeah, I can fully understand that. That's why I'd like Sony to release one with OLED and HDR at some point.

I'll gladly double-dip. It would make the Portal perfect.

I'd add VRR to help with any frame discrepancy or drops on the PS5 itself, Wifi 6/7, and a bigger battery would be nice as well.

Yeah, I guess. Not sure how it works exactly, but since my OLED tv supports VRR, PS5 Pro automatically uses it already.
(The difference between 120hz on and off is very noticeable when playing Blops 6 on Portal, even on the 60hz screen).

OK Native bit of a stretch.
My PC is a 7800X3D and a 4090, 32 GB DDR 5 RAM *side note should I go to 64? will it make any difference?

So I can run alot of games native 4k120 but most are on Quality DLSS mode, but I do like running DLAA and dabbled with DLDSR for the ultimate IQ.

Im a tech guy I like gadgets, controllers, things like that so I dont mind tinkering, but cant lie after work or on my breaks its nice to just boot up a console with a clean UI focused on controller access and just play shit and the best thing is now the games are very close to what my PC can do for a quarter of the price.

Yes go with 64(match the 32 brand/specs)and yes it does make a difference.

There is ways to streamline the PC experience and make it more console like btw.

I agree tech is a wonderful hobby, especially when it works.

It is strange, that's like saying the Switch OG was the first failed draft. Or every graphics card that's older compared to the latest one.

Mid gen refreshes are a good thing for the industry. It brings new life into the old games.

Sorry, boss.

Wasn't it you that had a major meltdown right after Xbox announced those 'just four games' during the Xbox Business Update earlier this year?

Not a chance, dude. I've always been happy for more people to be able to enjoy games. I say put all games everywhere. Sure, if it has to start by being a year or so, but ideally everything would be everywhere day one.

Again? In Poland I can buy NEW PC for ~920 Euro with 4070 and 5500 CPU. Pro is 800 Euro.

I'm tired of these discussions.

With cutting corners? Maybe.

The 5500 isn't an 8 core cpu for example.

Building a Pro equivalent PC (2tb SSD included) in Germany is around 1100.

Thanks!
Ill look into upgrading the RAM.
In terms of making my PC more console like, yeah Ive messed about with it, I settled on just steam big picture, I experimented with playnite but thought it was crap, you loose all the community and steam native stuff.

Also I actually use my PC at my desk more often than not and using desktop mode in steam is a bit more useful.

When I play it on my TV in the lounge i swap to BPM but its not like a console like experience, I have a dual boot on my ally for Bazzite, maybe ill install another SSD and have a Bazzite partition for lounge pc play, but hear it doesnt play well with Nvidia,

TBH i cant be arsed ill just play my pro lol.

This thread is seriously mentally challenged now. Went full retard, which, as we know, is never a good idea.

Started out in good faith, but (platform) war never changes.

So far there is very little difference between 6 and 8 core cpus in over 90% of games. 6 core Zen 3 is better than 8 core zen 2.

Most games are not properly multi threaded (still). PS5 also don't have access for full 8 cores and 16 threads in games.

No sir, you are wrong my good man! I have purchased maybe 5 dlc add-ons in the last 15 years and have yet to purchase a mothafuckin' (excuse my language) skin! Well, do the free Sackboy costumes count?

I think the Pro is too damn high! I also skipped PS4 Pro too though. I usually rock OG launch consoles all gen. I am also pro physical copy.

With that said, i would have considered (emphasis) getting it at $600 with a disc drive... $800, fuck that.. its more principle than ability to pay.

Enjoy though, wont take away from those willing to spend the chedda.
I've watched the matrix demo on pro, the cpu struggle still exists, I could tell when you turn the camera, also you still have no idea how you'll revisit your older library with 10th gen consoles, jumping ship seems an unwise choice cause this way you can't effectively build your library that's worth revisiting given what I've just said.
