I’ve not had an issue with image quality since the PS4 to be honest. PS4 Pro was not a worthwhile upgrade in my experience, and the PS5 cemented the pleasant graphics.

I’ve not heard anyone on GAF complaining about PS5 games looking like blurry vaseline. In fact games like DeS, Returnal, GT7, Horizon, GoW and many third party games are mainly praised for their presentation - and you are one of the posters that heaps this praise on.

FF7R and many third party games have had lots of complaints. Helldivers 2, Returnal, AW, FF16, BM:W, etc. it’s not an uncommon complaint…still playable but not close to ideal

The Sony first party stuff looks fine on base PS5, but PS5 pro makes those games look far better too.

So yeah, cool that Pro models are a thing as an alternative for those that care about visual clarity. It's nice that devs try to push graphics to the max but come on, IQ and frames should always come first as those have a direct effect on gameplay.

This happened to me last year when i bought my PS5 (first console since a PS2).
I will always be a PC gamer because i like fidling with settings and stuff (its a double edged sword) but the inmediate ease of use and "jumping straight to game" mentality of consoles can really be felt in my opinion. Specially because i kinda have an OCD mentality so when i game on PC i always want to check out performance statistics, check out PCGamingWiki for the game in case it has issues, etc.
Playing on consoles liberates you from that mental burden and allows you to just game.
But im starting to kinda miss messing around with graphics settings now hahaha, i think i just like both.

Sure, but there is a difference between offering legit criticisms and pushing an agenda at every opportunity. A thread about someone's enjoyment of the Pro should not have deviated into PC/Xbox/whatever comparisons, but he we are. Folks have obvious inferiority (or superior in one particular case) complexes, so they can't help themselves.

I'll use myself as an example. I'm not a fan of strategy games (real-time, turn-based, etc.). I just don't find them fun. But, you bet your bottom dollar that now that this has been said, if I went into a Command and Conquer or Civilization thread just to be the "opposition", people would rightfully call that out. If I was just going to offer a perspective on why it's not my cup of tea and left it at that, I'd see no harm. Instead, some join threads (usually multiple and it's often the same 5-8 people) just to stir up trouble, often repeating why they don't like something as if folks didn't hear them the first five times. It grows tiring and it's why threads turn into "wars".

I've been thinking about this. Many games are already showing better IQ than OG Fidelity modes at double the FPS. Thats more than 100% upgrade for 55% price increase. Would you shit on someone getting that kind of value out of a GPU upgrade? (Not to mention the extra 1 TB of storage you get).

I just found it cool and was something I noticed this weekend I spent hours testing games out I'd wa genuinely impressed but alot of the results and as someone who went over to to pc I found it refreshing without much of a loss in terms of quality.

I've seen some strange arguments like it doesn't do anything different. But for one a high end pc doesn't do anything different nor does a mobile phone what is the definition of different. For instance some pratt was saying fifa is the same...no shit. It'd fifa.

What is a mid gen refresh supposed to do? Same as the base just better isn't it?

NO exclusives. Nothing to play on it. More exclusives on ps than most other platforms and over 100 pro games T launch....


Anyway I don't prefer one over the other I'm just impressed and am enjoying the experience on consoles again because they are bridging that gap a little more now.

That's really my main issue rn.

The boost in performance on PS5 Pro makes playing on Portal feel real smooth, especially those 120hz modes.
(Except maybe HFW, Performance > Balanced).

The only thing lacking is OLED with HDR.
Which isn't even my main issue, but the fact that I have to turn off HDR manually on the PS5 system through the console itself before using Portal, otherwise it will render with HDR and colors get all fucked on Portal's screen.
And then you have to turn it back on again when playing on tv. And so on, and so on...

for that reason portal is crap.
They made a device that is ALL ABOUT THE SCREEN. There is nothing else on this thing.... and they gave it an sdr lcd and don't even have auto off hdr function on ps5

I think the Pro is too damn high! I also skipped PS4 Pro too though. I usually rock OG launch consoles all gen. I am also pro physical copy.

With that said, i would have considered (emphasis) getting it at $600 with a disc drive... $800, fuck that.. its more principle than ability to pay.

Enjoy though, wont take away from those willing to spend the chedda.

Always had a soft spot for consoles for single player games for that reason. Boot it up, play, turn it off when done. I do prefer pc for multiplayer online games though but that's about it.
