PS5 Pro owners, how silent is your unit? Any noticeable Coil Whine?

He said this yesterday.

The Pro was released today.

Pretty obvious what his agenda really is. Honestly the lengths people go to.

Meh.....he's made it pretty easy to just dismiss everything he has to say. That was nice of him.

Mine is pretty silent, it's a bit louder than the original if I stay with the ears close to it but it's irrelevant since at a normal distance I can't hear it. So yeah it's pretty good and far from the horror of the PS4 Pro hair dryer.

Dang.....that sucks man. You might want to take it back and exchange it for another if it is that loud.
I wouldn't say it's loud, but it's def audible compared to both my XSX and phat PS5 (it's usually noticeable in these visual novels with more quiet BG music, lol). Knowing my luck I'd probably get another one with the same audible fan and with coil whine on top of that. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I'll think it over the weekend after I play more games on my Pro. I've also decided to keep my old PS5 and move it to the bedroom instead.

It's very quiet, but it's also noticeably hotter than my base PS5.
I feel like my Pro's fans are not Running fast enough or something.
Anyone else notice it being a lot hotter? I played silent hill 2 for an hour and put my hand behind the back and it was really really hot. Almost too hot to be able to remove a USB stick comfortably

The console itself or the air?
If it was the air, that is good. If it's the console, ergh I don't know, lol.

Do you play video games on mute? Also, ever consider seeing a psychiatrist?
Yes to your second question, and I did not forget to take my crazy pills either :)

Dude, after I call myself an "Anal-retentive OCD bastard", why do you feel the need to insult me? Obviously, my post triggered something, and you needed to feel better about yourself. If you had actually bothered to try and understand what I was trying to say, you would get my actual point: For the vast majority of users, all PS5 revisions including the Pro will be considered acceptably quiet. That still does not change the fact that Sony has produced a very expensive console that cannot be considered premium compared to its main competitor, the XBOX Series X, if we focus on how loud the fan is, and if we take into consideration the fact that early users are reporting very apparent and audible coil whine.

As for your first question implying that I am being deliberately obtuse by playing games on mute and looking for problems, I have described in detail the situation in which one may encounter intrusive coil whine or fan noise - during the quiet passages of games such as Black Ops 6 for example, when you are trying to hear incoming footsteps. In competitive games like that, any distraction, including coil whine coming from the console, can be considered a nuisance and a detraction. If I am paying over $1000 (in Canada) for a console, please allow me to expect some attention to detail coming from Sony in ensuring their premium console does not do this. If Microsoft can do it, with their own spotty record for producing hardware with questionable QC, Sony should at least try to.

I'm on the same boat as you (as for the OCD). That's the reason why I created this thread.

I'll happily pay a big price if this means a completely silent device, but this is not the case apparently.

I can stand a loud fan perfectly, but not the high pitched sound of coil whine.

Guess you can't run ureal engine without the sound of jet engine, who doesn't like the sound of jet engines? It's so satisfying like the smell of gasoline.

I don't have a PS5 Pro yet, but nonetheless, I'm noticing how silent it is...

How silent it is since there's ZERO astroturfers, zealots and shills, paid or not, making noise and tsunamis of shit and bad PR for PS5. 🫠🫠🫠🫠

Compare with PS5 base going against Series X launch.

I rest my case and go to play with my Series X. 😎😎

Fine so far. My annoyance was the insanely slow transfer speed from the ps5, despite my insanely fast internet. Had to reset the pro and start again, skip the transfer and just download stuff normally instead, a zillion times faster.

Downloaded a crap ton last night and gave TLOU part 1 a go while still downloading and I definitely heard the fan kick up but not by much. That game for some odd reason is the gold standard on making a PlayStation fan rev up. Everything else I tried (SH2, Fortnite, Elden Ring) didn't hear a thing. Will look again now that everything has downloaded but otherwise it's very very quiet.

I mean it's loudest when downloading stuff so there's that but in general very silent.

A kind of solution is to keep it in another room and runs. Long HDMI

Fuck, I'm going to have to sleep downstairs in the bright ass living room to not miss my shipment...

Edit: Tracking says it should arrive today. I presigned. Never had any issues with porch pirates so far..
The UPS driver that delivered mine simply left it at the door without waiting for a signature lol. My tracking info said signature required.

I think people should check that they have not been on all night downloading first - leave it a few days to settle down and for thermal paste to cure, then panic.

Ambient temps play a huge part too - you are probably speaking to people whose console is ice cold bragging about it being whsiper quiet!

The console uses liquid metal. Thermal paste?? What are you talking about??

My console seems quiet but I have found another issue. All of a sudden I get no sound through to the amp if I have Atmos selected in the main settings. It was working fine and I loaded up Horizon and all sound cut out.
It doesn’t even say Atmos on the front of the amp as it did before. Only way I can get sound is ditching to linear PCM. Anyone else had this issue?

Huh, so looks like I kinda lost the lottery on my Pro. Fan makes a fair bit of audible noise compared to my base PS5 which was whisper quiet.

The more annoying issue is that the fan spins at the same speed regardless if I play SM2 in Pro Fidelity mode or a fucking visual novel like Root Letter. I'm actually dumbfounded by this, lol. I hope they update the fan curve via a firmware update or something.

Oh and I don't have coil whine so there's that at least.
You didn’t lose the lottery. That’s exactly how the slim behaves too.

It's audible when running games but not noisy at all. When you factor in the audio of games, you can't hear it running from what I played earlier today.
