Who said anything about heavily optimizing?

They don’t need to with PSSR, that’s my entire point. Its made to easily overlay into the base ps5 version

If you don’t think Pro modes will essentially be standard going forward, that is extremely naive
Let's see what happens in the future, but I don't have high hopes for it. Nvidia and AMD have also introduced new technologies in the last few years that were supposed to help the market and developers. As a result, at the moment this has not affected the market, I would even say in some cases the situation with optimization in games has become worse. Since having received new tools, developers, apparently, began to pay even less attention to this, relying on the logic - "new technologies will help us"

Unfortunately, it seems to me that it doesn't matter what technologies appear or what AMD, Nvidia, PR5 PRO, etc. offer. If the developers don't want to use it, then it will just be pretty words.

The menus ARE laggier compared to base PS5 and it's something that @Radical_3d explained thoroughly in another post - it's basically got to do with the fact that the OS now runs on separate DDR5 instead of DDR6 mem. iirc.

Not a dig towards you man btw 😉

Cheers
How does this make sense? GDDR has higher bandwidth and DDR has better latency. Faster latency would make menus more responsive. Like how much bandwidth does a menu transition use lol

I'm saying the PC port doesn't have a good reputation for performance.
Launch issues? I’ve had no issues at all, but I play it on a 60hz TV so no idea if it’s a mess above that. It’s been fantastic anyway, haven’t played it since the PS3 days, still a bit old when it comes to the ladder and plank gameplay but that’s about it, was surprised to see all the foliage and water physics. Top notch 👌

No it was a joining discount on a website in England called very.

I've got 20% discount and now I've traded in my standard ps5 for 250 so I've ended up paying less than half price for the ps5 pro.

GTA 6 needs to hurry up

Dayam... I just went on the website and yeah I can get that 20% discount, so that's £140 of the price bringing the Pro to £560, I've a disc PS5 so if I could get £350 for it that brings the pro to £210.... Now that's fucking tempting

System itself, the panels seem cheap. But setup was very easy. Popped in my SSD and the disc drive. Plugged it in and the setup was quick and everything recognized right away

Game wise Spider Man 2 looks amazing. Honestly I put it to max out RT affects and it looks great. Also another game I enjoy is FC 25. Not only did EA did great with F1, but looks like the effort was there for FC 25 as well. Game is smoother and you can clearly see the difference in graphics. I wasn't impressed with Star Wars Outlaws as much. Can't wait for the GT7 patch.

Note I use a Sony 900h tv with VRR off as it was never implemented properly on this tv. Can only imagine how these games look on an OLED like a C3 or C4

This takes all of 1-2 minutes and you never touch them again. I just can’t believe most people are this unmotivated to care about the way their game looks/plays.
It's because the switch is too weak to offer any options. Nothing wrong with being a fan of Nintendo but that person you're replying to is being totally disingenuous in his criticism of the ps5.

Imagine offering 2-3 graphic choices and calling it out as a negative.

Your not going to see change on a 32 small monitor. You wil see bigger changes in image on big tv
I would argue the opposite because the PPI of the 32” is much higher and I sit much closer

That is unless someone is sitting the optimal viewing distance from say their 65” TV which is about 6’ away and most people aren’t that close

One of his least insightful videos, he's a great reviewer with an incisive voice but his industry analysis is abysmal.
Yeah, I agree with most of his opinion on the PS5 Pro itself but half of the review was somewhat off topic and sounded more like "Sonys financials are shit", "PS5 Pro is an early indicator of Sony being DOOMed" and some other wierd takes.

The funniest part is that not only are Sony's financials far more robust than he thinks (literally had a great quarter despite releasing one of, it not THE biggest bomb in gaming). Yet he's literally painting them as "fighting for survival". Amazing! He also thinks Xbox's management is an authority on the console market's viability and them not releasing a pro version means it's not worth it.

Easily one of the worst gaming-related videos I've seen this year.

How much would upgrading from a 4k@60 tv to a 4k@144 with VRR improve things? The big thing being VRR. It seems most of the games are aiming for 60 FPS, so not sure it is worth the money for just VRR.

I stopped it shortly after he said the PS4 Pro was the easier recommend because of 4k and disc drive included. He meant cheaper.

VRR is an improvement even at 60 so if you don't have it on your current display you'd be upgrading 2 key spots to owning a Pro

VRR makes huge difference in some games and it will make even more difference going forward with more and more demanding games.

Most vrr screens are 120hz capable but on PS5 120hz in itself doesn't make huge difference as only some games support it.

VRR is worth it (in my opinion), I changed from 60hz 4k tv to 120hz 4k OLED 2 years ago and I'm super happy. Vrr was my main argument to change.

Just watched a handful of reviews and I must say they align exactly with my sentiments at the moment. I've played several games side by side with my slim and the differences are almost unnoticable. I'd say 90% (being generous) of the average gaming audience playing on anything less than a 65" 4K TV wouldn't really notice a difference at all.

Throw in the $699 price tag without a disk drive and you probably get one of the worst deals in gaming right now.

My advice to anybody holiday shopping would be to pick up a used PS5 Slim + extra controller + PS Portal for the same price. You'll be getting 99% of the experience plus being able to stream around the house.

What is your viewing distance from the TV? What is the TV size?

Try BG3, Jedi Survivor, or FF VIII. The differences are striking. But yeah, in a lot of games, it's difficult to notice.

You know what will.make it a better deal ? Taking the PS portal out of the equation and just stream on a tablet since it's a better streaming experience 😉

In other news : I'm not thrilled either about the Pro and I've tried Stellar blade, AW2, DR remaster and a couple others which are Pro enhanced and...

Couple that with the - IMO - absolute clusterfuck that the "official" list is with many of the games not being enhanced even though they have the tag and...I don't know gents, this seems like it was rushed to market...Also, the complete lack of proper communication on Sony's part on why those games aren't enhanced yet or when they'll actually receive the fabled patches is...not good, not good at all.
That PS4 enhancement option is also kind of a non-thing since it helps fuck and all, the menus ARE slower compared to based consoles, there's no Pro mentions anywhere (say, icons, special backgrounds etc) and there's nothing "premium" to the whole experience so far for me, in fact, I was way more happy with the 4 Pro since on that, you had the performance/60 fps option on many games which where actually transformative (Shadow of the Colossus remake and GOW for example) but now ? We had performance modes for 4 years now so the differences are even more minimal.

Yes, PSSR can only improve from now on but, at least for now, the gains aren't big as to justify the console's pricetag - it's literally double the price of a PS5 slim ffs.

I'm actually disappointed to be quite honest so far.

To each their own. I don’t have any slowness to the UI

I love the Pro even more than PS4 Pro.the upgrades are way more noticeable to me. PSSR is greatly increasing the fidelity @ smooth 60 fps, just as advertised

And the communication issues are to be expected, I doubt Sony knows when certain patches will be ready. PS4 pro also had a lot of uncertainty

Pretty good review.
Though I don't quite agree with his point about performance modes on base Ps5 generally having good IQ. It was certainly true for most cross gen games and, to give Sony credit, most first party games. But we've seen an increasing number of games really struggling to deliver decent IQ at 60fps, from stuff like Rebirth (which he mentions) to Alan Wake 2, Space Marine 2, Jedi Survivor, FFXVI and more. And it's probably only going to get much worse once all these announced UE5 games start coming out.

Where are all the people and reviewers with real, honest opinions. these fence sitters don't bring anything to the review

James, you find more noticeable the minor resolution upscale compared to a 30 -> 60 fps mode ?

Alan wake 2 still looks like shit man, that fuxking shimmering is EVERYWHERE, Hogwarts...you lose the RT unless you don't want to play it at a shit-tastic framerate, Horizon ZD looks identical etc etc.
Stellar blade, while cleaner and nicer on the Pro setting...it's not anything transformative since it already looked pretty good on balanced mode before, RE4Re looks cleaner but still has shimmering...you get my drift.
Maybe FF7 rebirth is THE game which shows the biggest difference but I don't have it in my list (yet).

Again, going from the PS4 to the 4 Pro was almost transformative for me, this time though ? Not so much.

Also : took a look again at that "pro enhanced" list on PSN and...the selection is too small with many games still not being PRo enhanced.

I'm happy for those that are happy with their purchase but for me, it feels like I've been scammed (almost 😉).

That list needs to get bigger ASAP and the work the devs put have to be better, AW2 is some of the most disappointing shit I've ever seen - you basically have smear-o-FSR-o-vision on base console and a not so smear-o-PSSR-o-vision on the Pro, shit is laughable, maybe Remedy are lazy, maybe the game needs a much bigger HW advantage/jump as to have it run and look "properly" but...yeah.

Don't know man, it feels like we're trying to justify to unjustifiable here, maybe I had bigger expectations that I should have jumping in but so far, I feel like I've been taken for a ride by Sony.

Just my honest opinion
Cheers

The resolution bump isn’t minor. It is going from 1440p to 4K and even crisper than native.

For someone with a 65” TV that makes a big difference

The bump to 60 fps on ps4 pro was extremely rare. Most of the time it was 30fps with more resolution. PS5 Pro has some cases like this too with DD2

Horizon ZD looks identical etc etc.

???? Not to me

Disagree, it was a lot blurrier before and had an unstable Framerate

Now it is razor sharp and butter smooth. This is big for an action game

If you don’t see the difference you probably sit too far away from your TV
