Raise the flame shield: Your "controversial" gaming opinion.

I also think that Chromatic Aberration looks good. I don't understand people's problem with it.

That said, Bloodborne (which uses CA ) is not a bad game, but I don't understand the circle jerk that starts when somebody creates a thread about it.

The victorian setting is well done, I guess.
But every fucking area looks the same dull blueish colors.

I felt apart from its setting, it's a very mediocre souls game.

Return of the Obra Dinn is boring, overrated, pretentious and artsy crap.
I liked it a lot. Unlike the cavalcade of walking sims that plague the industry, a detective story with an emphasis on deduction and a unique art style was a welcomed surprise.

My turn.
Konami did a good job canning Silent Hills and firing Kojima.
P.T. suffered from the same problems that Downpour and Homecomming had but because Kojima's name was on the credits, everyone ate it up.
Yes, Kojima. We already played F.E.A.R.. We don't need your version of it. Silent Hill deserves better than your... ugh... "creativity".

Scott Pilgrim vs the World is a bad beat-em-up, only made popular because it was based on an original and very good comic book and was promoted by certain adherents of how games should be, setting a new trend that is dominant till today, yet ignoring bad gameplay aspects in favour of art and woke culture. You don't miss much by it not be available to stores. Fight n rage and river city girls are vastly better

Fortunately the even worse live action movie was demolished by the Expendables

Game reviews as of late have been untrustworthy, watch them give Pokemon sword/shield positive reviews like they did with a bunch of 2d sidescrollers, Nintendo games, call of duty games, pretentious indie games, and cinematic games.

I am finding myself going back to Ghost Recon: Breakpoint for a quick tacticool fix every now and then.

I don't think it's as bad as everyone thinks it is.

The first game. The sad thing is I wanted to give the series another try and onboard with Andromeda. That didn't happen.
Ok, just wanted to be sure you were talking about the first game, not the ass splatter that Andromeda was.

Now I feel comfortable responding with this.

Just because a game is LONGER does not make it BETTER. Maybe I'm just older and less patient now, but games that take 50+ hours are just too long.

That said, I spent 165+ hours on Witcher 3 and loved every minute of it. But how many games are of that quality? The Witcher 3 is both long and good! (very rare)
I'm playing Dragon Age Inquisition right now and about 120 hour in. I think the game could have ended at the 70-hour mark, and I would have thoroughly enjoyed it. Right now, it's getting a little tedious...

I like chromatic aberration and motion blur, when used properly.

The order 1886 was one of my favourite experiences this generation, I know the product itself is unfinished, but the world they built, the details, acting, writting, graphics, the lore and story it was heading is still incredible. Thios might be because im a film maker professionally, so I really value when games try to do something different and unique, even if the product isnt as intended due to lack of resources/time.

I wish they would make a sequel.

I also loved Kane and Lynch 2, although generic as hell, I loved the look and how raw and mature it was displayed.

3d Zelda suck. I only beat the 2d zelda games. Never beat a 3d one.

Not being able or willing to beat a game doesn't mean a game is bad though.

Which is also my controversial gaming opinion.

2D Zeldas are obviously much better than 3D Zeldas though. Zelda 1-4 are all much much much better than any 3D Zelda.

I looked at my contributions to this thread and checked if they still hold.

Combos and having a separate button for dodging are the most annoying mechanics in modern games.

And WoW will forever be Wizard of Wor.

I have probably said most of these already in this or another thread before, but let's do it again.

-Gen 6 was the worst console generation (PS2, Xbox, GC, DC).
-Despite Gen 6 being the worst, I loved Smash Bros Melee but mostly just because of the minigames. That said, I bought and tried to get into Brawl and Smash Wii U, but both were huge disappointments. The minigames are way worse and even the actual fighting has become worse and worse with each new Smash game.
-I can't stand Assassin's Creed games.
-I can't stand Mass Effect games. "Alien species" scifi is the worst scifi subgenre there is. Hey, let's give that species blue skin and let's give that species fish heads and let's give that species scales and let's.... etc etc etc. The most unimaginative things alien species can be are these things that either look like your regular human mutants or some weird animal hybrids.
-I can't stand Bayonetta games (seems like I can't stand any of Platinum games).
-FPS games have gone downhill after Duke Nukem 3D. For me the perfect first person movement is when it feels more like you are driving a car. Being able to quickly look up and down and around ruined first person games for me.
-A separate button for dodging is stupid. One example is Shantae and the Pirate's Curse where you were able to purchase a new ability which was this stupid dodging move. I used it a few times, got annoyed by it and noticed how much more fun it was to dodge with your basic movements.
-Combos are stupid.
-Crafting is stupid.
-I would love to love Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles X but both games were ruined by the combat systems.
-Controllers have way too many buttons. Hell, even the control sticks have been turned into buttons! I have a soft spot for the Atari Jaguar controller though. If you are going to put tons of buttons on your controller you should go completely crazy with it.
-The screenshots in video game boxes have gone downhill since Final Fantasy 8 where all they showed were either images from cutscenes or images of flashy summon monster effects. I want to see how the GAME looks like and not things that only happen when you aren't doing anything. That said, video games in general have been ruined to the point where you often can't understand what the hell is going on by looking at the screenshots. Even some simple 2D platformers have all kinds of light effects and other completely unnecessary things going on. I used to love looking at screenshots back in the day when you could instantly see what you were supposed to do in a game. I even loved to draw my own fictional "video game screens" when I was a kid, but can kids even do that these days? I mean, the screens are filled with all kinds of flashy animations and effects and have tons of text in HUDs.
-...which reminds me that "moody atmospheric" light effects in platformers are stupid.
-...which reminds me that the most overused visual trick for a platformer is to make the whole world with silhouette aesthetics.
-Shiny magic forest aesthetics annoy me. It's the reason I just can't get myself to play Ori and the Blind Forest.
-I would love to like Guacamelee, but I have never ever thought the mexican wrestler thing is funny or even remotely appealing in any way or form. I gave it one shot and I kinda was able to look beyond that for a while, but then the combat system with all the combos ruined it for me.
-Tank controls are great.

The platforming sections in Double Dragon games are fun.

Yes, still standing behind all of this.

The Double Dragon thing reminded me that Double Dragon Neon was shit and Double Dragon IV is AWESOME! The platforming sections are probably harder and more unfair than ever before and I love them.

Reverse groomer.
Nintendo is a heavily overrated company for the stuff they make, they're awesome but not to the point where they're the most legendary game company of all time
the N64 absolutely sucks and only had 4 good games on there, i said it and i stand by it, mario 64 is an absolute piece of dogshit alongside every other shitty copy and paste collectathon they made on that dumpsterfire of a platform, in 96 it sucked, nowadays it sucks. the GCN is basically the N64 but over infinity times better
The PS2 is kinda overrated since it mostly got its sales from being a cheap dvd player
Crash team racing nitro fueled isn't that great, the physics are wonky and not that fun
The castlevania GBA games suck, the DS games are so much better
Tekken isn't that fun after playing it, it feels like fatal fury but with 8 different more planes to jump on, but in exchange for that there are no special moves or projectiles.
F-Zero GX and X are overrated, the only thing they have are a nice sense of speed.
Aside from that, the gameplay sucks, it's basically hold the drive button. The only way to get past your opponents is to spam the boost button to infinity. The SNES and GBA games had so much more depth and actually felt like racing games other than a glorified Sonic Forces
That's all the cancer i have to share today

Halo is (and has always been) utterly mediocre, and when I hear people attach a label of "greatness" to that bland, uninteresting franchise, I'm left with the following internal response:

giphy.gif
I was popping in to post exactly this. Halo has never been good.
For the time, Halo 1 was okay. Halo 2 was an awesome coaster for my drinks. Halo 3 was... uh, a game. :messenger_neutral: Hmmm... I guess the franchise did, kind of, suck.
Nevermind.

Bioshock Infinite is the best Bioshock
The Darkness II was awesome
I fell asleep playing Astral Chain & I hate Mario games
Dragon Age: Inquisition & Overwatch were a waste of my money

Sandbox obessesion & plunging resources into amalgamating graphical fidelity with ultra realism has lead to a lot of homogenised, Boring, repetitive AAA games this generation.

I've resorted to indie games who's creators stood by their convictions & risks and retro games that are timeless & forced developers to be creative due to their limitations.

Multiplayer games need to be far more homogenised.

No killstreaks. No perks. No customisable weapons. No customisable sensitivity.

Level playing field all around.

Expound upon this please.

Instead of hdr focus should be on oled monitors

In fairness, LCD panel makers have done a lot to close the gap with CRTs. Young points out that liquid crystals twist faster than they used to, and LCD panels can further reduce latency and motion blur by buffering an additional frame in their timing controllers or inserting artificial frames.

As the CEO of the OLED Association, he also argues that OLED displays provide the same responsiveness as CRT monitors because they also involve electron-to-photon conversion, only with organic chemicals (the "O" in OLED is for organic) receiving the voltage instead of phosphor dots.

"There's really no difference between OLEDs and CRTs," Young said.

Still, large-screen OLED panel makers to date have focused nearly all their energy on televisions, so the only OLED monitor on the market today is a 22-inch panel from Asus that costs $4,000. Young said the manufacturer of those panels, JOLED, is building a larger factory next year, bringing down costs, It may be a while until OLED monitors can compete with even the best LCDs on price.

Responsiveness? Ehh maybe? The motion is still bad because they are sample and hold. Also I would not say there is no difference between the two. There is differences between using an electron gun on a phosphor display vs organic chemicals reacting to electric current (motion resolution being one such difference). You are quoting the CEO of the OLED association, I don't think you are getting an unbiased assessment from him lol.

Based on what you said I thought there was something else I didn't know about. I was curious since most high end TV's always look better than high end monitors for displaying content.

The limitations of TN/VA/IPS are still disappointing.

I think most major differences are when it comes to displaying text and monitors have the advantage. PC players usually sit nearer to the monitor so games with much text like strategy games are better displayed on PC monitors also due to higher pixel density.
Those games don't look as good on TV and they are more tiresome for text.

I found Bloodborne tedious - more so than difficult. I still have it installed but quit playing after about 10 hours of playtime. I keep promising myself I'll give it another chance, but in my heart of hearts, I know I'm never going back.

Naw. Original Halo? 7/10 at best.
People only feel comfortable calling Halo shit because it still feels so modern. It's not Halo's fault every shooter afterward decided to copy it. People only pretend to themselves that games like Doom or Duke Nukem are still any good because they're of an age, you play those games and you feel like you're going back in time. You play Halo, and it could honestly feel like it was released this year.

I found Halo and Halo 2 a big pile of meh at the time they were released. I was bewildered as to why they were so revered. From the get go.

How? Do you like shooters? What other shooter even comes close in terms of feel and play ability on a console? What could you possibly be comparing these games to that you're bewildered people revere theme?

The gameplay was boring. The story was boring. I was expecting an epic, game of a generation because of all the hype and I came away saying “this is it?”. Just completely uninspiring.

Anyone who dislikes Halo is just a contrarian hipster.

Not liking something doesn't make you a contrarian. It just makes you a person...with an opinion.

Having played it back in the day, what it felt like to me was that Xbox owners (and I was - and still am - one as well) had to have something to latch onto, and this was the most conveniently suited to mass appeal so everyone jumped on board screaming "We've got HALO!!!!"

I was like:

Nothing against those who like/love it. I just can't connect with it.
