Razer pauses direct laptop sales in the US as new tariffs loom - The Verge

Lol at people not caring because this is Razer.

Everything will either be hitting new price highs or following suit soon. You think Sony and Nvidia are going to do nothing about this?

There are tens of thousands of US and foreign companies manufacturing/assembling parts or entire products in Asia. All of these companies are fucked because of the sudden tariffs on their products. This is going to cause so much cause chaos, delays and price hikes everywhere... So many US companies can go out of business because they're stuck with "Made in China\Cambodia\Korea\Philippines\Thailand" products that they've already paid for but are impossible to sell in the US right now.

Consumer Electronics Dagger.

If I don't buy something new at least twice a week I get the shakes, welcome to old tech hell.

(Tariff stuff aside...based on personal experience both the razer and framework laptops are sub par machines...so this is saving you from a mistake)

China will probably attempt to adapt with some comprehensive and informed plan. Meanwhile US has a brick on the accelerator and no hands on the wheel. China looks set to ride it out just a bit better.

Anyone who says China will be fine and it's the US that will be hurt only doesn't understand reality. We're their biggest customer. China is screwed and the leverage is certainly on the side of the US. They know this though which is why this "trade war" won't last long. A deal will be made, just like all the other countries, US will be in a better position and you can thank Trump for it.

I don't understand some of you here. Razer might be shit but it's not about them. It's about everything becoming twice as expensive or not available at all.

No it's not. It's about the downward trajectory of the us economy.

The president isn't the one to think this up. Economist have been talking about it for years... he is just the one to execute it because the other guys didn't have the fortitude to do so.

Maybe wait with that until this BS you say materializes.

Now consumers will be forced to choose from laptop brands that may have some semblance of quality control..

The vast majority of HP laptops are manufactured outside of the US in countries like China, India,Thailand, Mexico, Vietnam and Mexico. All of these laptops have excellent quality control and will go up in price. How does this serve consumers?

Thank Trump for creating a problem and subsequently trying to fix it - whilst ensuring the goods of consumer goods remain high for all Americans? What a genius. What a great deal. The best of deals.

I was driving home early Sunday morning through Bakersfield

Listening to gospel music on the coloured radio station

And the preacher said, "You know you always have the Lord by your side"

And I was so pleased to be informed of this that I ran twenty red lights in his honor

Thank you Jesus, thank you lord

I applaud the idea of bring back manufacturing jobs to the US but there were other ways to achieve that goal than how Trump did it: by blowing up the global market, detonating international stock markets and blackmailing the rest of the world on "Liberation Day" without any real understanding of trade deficits. I supported most of Trump's policies so far but this is .... :messenger_grimmacing_

Yeah, people mocking Razer are missing the forest for the trees. You might not care for a specific brand or product, but how long until the same happens to something you do care for? I just read that Fanatec sim gear is increasing in price from 30 to 50% per product for the US. Dark days are ahead, but "who cares about Fanatec" I guess.

World wide stocks are plummeting including China. They'll be fine sure but in that sense so will we. China will be hurt from this and so are we. Unfortunately on both sides the poor are the ones who are going to be hurt the most.
Eh... The rich will be hurt the most because they have the most to lose. Poor people aren't invested in stocks. The stock market isnt the economy. How were the poor benefitting from all time highs? They weren't. The economy was shit despite Wall street making record profits.

ahh well i guess if razer are going to stop selling their products then it's time to go back and just accept infinite inflation and raising costs.

(again it's like the third day, I'm not gonna get worked up about reactionaries, lets see how things settle, razer will quickly change their mind if the markets do stabilize)

People want infinite inflation because it pushes the pain off to the next generation and the next until the whole thing collapses but who cares if we won't be alive.

President Donald Trump's reciprocal tariffs could lead Apple to raise the price of the iPhone 16 Pro Max by as much as $350 in the U.S., UBS analysts estimated Monday.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max is Apple's highest-end iPhone on the market, and currently retails for $1,199. UBS is predicting a nearly 30% increase in retail price for units that were manufactured in China. Apple's $999 phone, the iPhone 16 Pro, could see a smaller $120 price increase, if the company has it manufactured in India, the UBS analysts wrote.

It wouldn't surprise me if Apple's going to be forced to delay manufacturing for all of their phones until this mess has been sorted. This will also delay the introduction of forthcoming Apple products. Apple will be forced to move manufacturing to the Asian countries with the lowest tariffs, this will take at least a year. Apple products are going to become even more expensive than they already are, not just in the US but everywhere in the world. The rest of the world will pay higher prices so Apple can subsidize the price of their "made in Asia" phones in the US.

It's fine, they'll join their kids in tiktok videos about Green energy and promote extremely harmful for the environment Lithium Batteries.

So they'll at least feel good on the inside. Maybe chuck a few flags on their profiles.

Rich people will just not buy the third luxury car or fourth vacation home when their stocks crash 40% and Walmart Sneakers are $120. Poor people will lose their jobs, apartments, food, meager comforts, and lives when everything is twice as expensive. Even if American Foxxcon factories with suicide nets were a real possibility (they're 1000% not, we don't have the population to work them at any real scale, don't have anywhere near the unemployment levels, and no Zoomer or Millennial is going to screw in sprockets for 12 hours for $10 or even $20/hr), it'd take years for these sweatshops to be built. America would have to regress to 1930's wages and quality of life to close these supposed trade deficits with Vietnam and Cambodia who earn 50 cents and hour. All so he can fund 0% income tax to the professional class earning $300k - $500k/yr salaries which they'll invest 90% of in foreign markets.

That was baked into the cake without any tariffs eventually though. Paper money destroys societies and we've been on pure paper money for decades based on nothing but debt.

Oh, manufacturing will return to the US but the vast majority of the work will be handled by machines and robots. The less people employed, the more affordable the products.

Maybe, maybe not. Of the 2 scenarios though, the maybe natural erosion is vastly preferable to the definite entirely self inflicted suicide.

Can't you blokes get arrested for saying mean stuff like that on the internet?
I mean I love you guys n'all and especially some of the television you produce, but we have our own shit to worry about over this side of the pond.

At least your guy has balls.

After doing a little research and I mean a just a little bit, it just seems like the rest of the world is just pissed that they can't tariff American goods to anti competitive rates and get away with it. I mean, plus with China their operating costs are so low, from what I have seen even a 100-200% tariff will make them too competitive for American companies. The only thing that bothers me about these tariffs is that the government gets the money. If I had the choice, I'd rather the money be burned at the port. It does suck that people will lose their jobs because companies choose shareholder value though.

More on topic though, I've had one of those strange bonds with Razer since the Razer guy days. I have always had their keyboards, and used to rock a diamondback for like 8 years. Picked up a Mamba and it died within a year, went to Logitech for mice, rocking a Razer Ornata keyboard and an led hard mouse mat from Razer, also had their aluminum one for a long time. These will probably be the last razer things I buy though, feel like they have lost the plot.

To be fair, we'd get arrested or deported if we come to the US and the border guards found it on our social media according to recent reports!

I'd just like to add that these tariffs are a BRILLIANT idea and DT is wonderful guy, to anyone else reading.

Razer stuff is great by the way - I have a Blade 14 and it is a solid laptop - great for all uses.

I mean razer has some cool laptops but holy cow they are relatively expensive. Honestly though... this is one of those boo hoo but I dont actually care

To the people saying "Who cares?" You will care very very soon when the price of almost ALL electronics in America shoot up 2-3x the costs.

You will care when grocery store shelves become more and more barren and what IS on the shelf is ridiculously overpriced.

Read a goddammn book on how the global economy works. Educate yourself.

There are tons of economic sources that know what they are talking about. Maybe YOU should watch some of them..but its ok. You're clearly a fafo kind of guy.

And yet you're clearly the sky is falling kind of guy and guess what, it never falls.

Those brands are screwed the same way, there is no magic US soil capable to produce all the shit that's needed to built any device, most of the time "made in X" actually means assembly line for a product with different components made all over the world
