Good game, been enjoying it so far. I'm up to chapter 4. Could swear I'm hearing some SFX that seem straight out of the OG Dino Crisis. Like a clinking noise...

Two questions for those who know:

Is the Blacktail secretly compatible with the Laser sight? If not I'm guessing they must have tested this and they were way too powerful together.

Is there a secret usage for Mendez's False Eye and should I hold onto it?

It's just poorly made and pretty much impossible to get through without losing some resources, like you mentioned. It was also the first time I attempted to use that mechanic where you tell Ashley to stay on your ass which, according to the tutorial, was supposed to make it easier to run past enemies. But all it did was to make it easier for them to hit her, and once she went down and you had to pick her up, it was all over. Might as well reload a checkpoint. Also, at the end of the path I was convinced you had to boost Ashley up the scaffolding because the boards there were smeared with that yellow paint but it turned out you just have to run to a tiny plank that was slightly to the right, lol.

Frustrating as hell.

It's also such a pointless addition tbh. Why even bother adding it when it's just a 20 second jog to the next cutscene and then it's all over.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that too. Nice addition.

what ?

you just need to run forward and shoot 2 barrels

I managed to get 45-60 fps on deck but damn it looks ugly with fsr, made it past the demo part and my battery died lol. Will tweak the settings to find better IQ tomorrow.

Also aiming on the deck is much better than on PS5 lol

Just started the Xbox version.I'm warning any potential buyers, the aiming is not good, I'm dealing with it, but it's rough.I even switched to a new controller, it just feels weird.

Wait I just realised something. The expanded treasure with + sign is the deluxe edition dlc. Not sure how I feel about it. It’s the ceiling lanterns.

I've encountered the same issue. I managed to tune the aiming to the best feeling but I've been using old school gaming tricks to get around it, like funneling enemies into hallways, climbing to higher areas and shooting things that can't climb up, or waiting for enemies to climb then shooting them down, or using door tricks(enemies will go into a door busting animation to get through, you blast them, stun kick, then go through the other side of the door and repeat).

Anything and everything cheese helps the aiming process be an easier experience.

Purchased and finished it. Really enjoyed it. Could never be the groundbreaking masterpiece the original was and that’s a bit of a shame as the original is my favourite game of all time.

I do have a few complaints. I do realise they felt the need to remove certain sections from the original for better pacing, but the original is a masterclass on how to make a perfectly paced game. By removing many sections, areas and even encounters, I feel it’s taken far too much away from the original game. A good example is my fav area of the original, which is the water room encounter in the castle. It’s a while before you make it there in the original but here you’re there in no time. It’s a tense area in the remake but it’s a smaller area with less enemies and doesn’t feel as tense and scary. There’s a build up to get there and here, you’re just there almost too quickly! For anyone who hasn’t played the original they won’t know, but for me it makes a difference.

And the more I think about it the more the remake is missing which takes so much out of the feel of the game. Plenty from the castle and island are missing and it’s sad to see.

Dont get me wrong, remake is a fine reimagining of the original but it can’t touch the class of the original at all, hard as it tries. I do like the controls in this one though. They’ve definitely brought it into the 2020’s kicking and screaming and boy is it a looker!

Beat it! Good remake! Re1r and Re2r still the best for me.
The old one feels better, pace, and have a better atmosphere. Here has some designs that dont fit well. IMO IMO IMO IMO IMO

If you want the true experience of Re4, play the original.

Game is super sick, but hard. Doesn't make things easier that the aiming on Xbox is fucked. Lol. Sick game though. Thoroughly enjoying my time with the game.

Yeah I'm not happy about it, the GameCube original was pretty much a shooting gallery, super tight.

Two different games with different design approaches. I decided that I like both equally (so far, haven't beaten the remake yet)

They simply listened to the feedback village was the undisputed favorite section in the game. People split in castle or island in the original. Hardly anyone complained about village.

Its pretty great but my jaded old fuck brain is never going to prefer it to the OG. And as far as the recent remakes go I think the RE2 one was more impactful because it was drastically different to the original whereas this plays things pretty straight. Which I guess is understandable since OG 4 is not as dated as OG 2 was.

Q: Does increasing the difficulty increase the actual number of enemies? (or just make them more bullet spongey?)

Why is Ashley always panting like she's recovering from an orgasm?

Hahahaha, for real! And the bit where Leon and Ashley are running away from the church, in the storm... both of them kept moaning and groaning continuously. Sounded like a bad porno.

The latter, unfortunately. And: enemies take way more bullets to stumble/get opened up for a melee. So parrying with the knife becomes waaaaaaay more important.

Ah, that's a shame. The 'Mad Chainsaw Mode' in the demo, added two extra Ganados to the basement and an extra chainsaw dude. Was hoping Hardcore or Professional would do the same.

Hm. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not great at remembering enemy placement, so there could be additional enemies. But it's definitely their increased resilience that was instantly noticeable for me.

No worries, I'm sure Mercenaries mode in a week or so will give me my fix of fighting hordes!

Did up to and finished the Ashley segment last night. Playing on PS5, initially something about the controls felt way off, like aiming through mud and the sensitivity options didn't help much. It was alright for 2 and 3 but something felt off here. Got more used to it over time but I think I'm gonna replay on PC.

It's superb but because RE4 barely needed remaking anyway it's not had that same "oomph" factor the RE2 remake had on me. Still having a blast but more than anything it makes me want to try RE4 VR.

Just got to the castle. Mendez was a letdown and that chase scene was terrible. Only died at the sisters so far (standard mode), evading is a bitch also fuck them beartraps!

I mean she is ill, has a parasite inside her
So is Leon though.

Not a man that doesn’t enjoy hearing a woman breathing hard in exertion, but this chick can’t take more than two goddamn steps without sounding like she’s had the squirt of the century. It’s incessant.

Have no idea how that made it through testing. I hope it’s either patched or, as noted above, modded out.

Modders are too busy doing the important work.

Beat it last night.

I haven't played the original it since PS2, I'm not emotionally attached so I thoroughly enjoyed it for what it is without analyzing.

Surprisingly difficult on Standard in places, maybe I haven't used the knife as much as I should but I'm gonna try a knife and pistol-only run on Professional now wish me luck.

Also, platinum requirements are insane. Two S+ rank NG %+h speedruns and S ranking every shooting gallery challenge with a controller?

Am I the only one who LOVES the Sentinel Nine handgun that came with the special edition of the game? It's not as powerful as the Red9 or Blacktail (which get a 1.5x power upgrade) but the 5x crit upgrade seems better for my headshot-focused play style.

Best handgun, IMHO.

Oh, does anyone else have the same audio bug as me?

Every one of my radio calls, the person on the other end has no voiced dialogue, only subtitles. Same for Saddler in his cutscenes. Closing and re-opening did nothing.

Never mind.

Activate the speaker in your controller.

Oh for fuck's sake. I turned that thing off for Ragnarok. Thanks.

Seems bad that they can't detect the controller speaking being off and default it to playing through the TV.

Is it just me or are the melee actions really hard to trigger in this game? There are times that I shoot the enemies on the feet and they seem like they get stunned but there isn't any melee prompt. It's been ages since I last played the OG version but I swear it was easier to do melee.

Your favourite section is the water room? What the fuck?
