RTX 5090 catches fire after capacitor blows up

I was playing PC games this afternoon, and when I was done with the games, my PC suddenly shut down while I was browsing websites. When I restarted the PC, the GPU caught on fire, and smoke started coming out. When I took out the GPU, I saw burn marks on both the GPU and the motherboard.
Judging from the pictures, we can see that a single MLCC (Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor) is severely burned, which was possibly the source of this fire. The good news is that we don't have to speculate about what caused the fire, and the problem won't be swept under the rug. Gamers Nexus Steve has already offered to buy the card and cover the full cost, without involving any RMA.

Burning power connectors, drivers crashing, low availability, removing physx, missing ROPS, scalper prices, and now capacitors that blow up....
This has to be one of the worst launches of a GPU ever.

i had put all the money aside for my first build in years... was going a bit overboard tbh, but coudn't get one. pretty glad now.

This has got to be the worst GPU launch in recent memory. Shit prices, kind of shitty performance (gen on gen comparison), shit supply and now fires. Good job Nvidia, you greedy cunts.

Makes me kinda triggered that ps5 pro got so much hate... for what?!
ps5 pro was only 200-250$ more expensive than base ps5 5 years earlier... that's inflation numbers.
but it's also like 45% faster to 2x faster with pss4.... and everyone dumped on it.
Meanwhile nvidia lied about msrp and lied about performance and removed physx and it's a terrible launch

Honestly 575W through such a small dense object always gave me bad vibes and one was one the reason I was sticking with my 4090. The margins for error in several components are just way too slim, and these aren't built to the same standards their datacenter boards are.

People are shitting on the 50 series too. Most of the hate for PS5 Pro was console gamers annoyed at having to pay way more than they were used to paying for hardware.

I am not sure who is more detached.
Console players who think 700$ is a lot
or pc players who buy these 5070ti cards for 1000+ $....

I prefer console gaming. Just turn my console on and play. Don't have to worry about drivers or fires starting that could burn my house down and kill my family.

The amount of power these cards draw is insane and this was bound to happen.

Fate has a marvelous way to slap PC/XRats peeps in the face in a short period of time. First they piled on PS5Pro (fantastic piece of hardware with 45% uplift in raster and 2x RT and NEW exclusive tech in PSSR and increased storage for $700) to be brought down to earth by Nvidia disastrous 5 series launch less performance than pro with prices north of $1000 lol plus the faulty components...oof

Second they tried to paint Xbox declines sales as "consoles" dying to be shocked by PS5 historic Q3 sales ..lol

Dude you just came back from a ban for platform warring, you're going straight back in balls deep huh lol

What platform warring? I just stated what happened last 3 months! Didn't Nvidia screw their customers? Didn't Sony have a fantastic Q3?

Maybe you should try to be less sensitive?

NVIDIA surely created an immersive experience with fire and explosions, maybe they should start setting up Babymetal stages.

Furthering the notion that QC has been cut back... nvidia now confirms 0.5% of 5090 dies are missing a ROP. That is a gigantic margin of error for manufacturing at this scale.

was literally saying to myself the other day..."32bit physx is gone, power connectors are frying even when fully plugged in, missing rops, driver blackscreen issues, whats next? GPUs blowing up?"
why did i actually predict that????

Nvidia needs to do a recall because GOD DAMN... this is the worst gpu launch ive ever seen

Most modern electronics have a chance (although very small) to catch fire. Be it a GPU, TV, and yes, even a console such as a PS5. It would be a problem if it was very widespread, but for now that doesn't appear to be the case.

Me as an MSRP 5090 owner with no issues after reading about blown capacitors, melting connectors, missing ROPS, stock shortages, scalping at $5k+, etc...

The card is already dead, it just hasn't realized it yet. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Now I'm quite happy I decided to sit out this iteration and wait for 60 series instead, or I guess I'm just kicking the can down the road to have the same problems later.

Nvidia always lies. But if you're that triggered because of feelings for your plastic box then you might need this.

I usually like to buy nvidia's top card but... maybe 600w is too much
Hopefully the 5080 Ti is 24gb and 450w or less

I have a 3080 10GB, and I'm perfectly happy with it.

I've read and been told over and over "10gb is garbage bro. It's below the bare minimum. It's not even efficient for modern gaming."

Bullshit. There's not a modern game I've played that I haven't been able to comfortably play on High settings at a good framerate. I recently played Black Myth Wukong without a single issue. Yes I may have to adjust a couple settings to climb over 60fps for a game like that, but for the most part it's a wonderful card that still gets the job done in 2025. Not to mention there are plenty of great PC games coming out today that don't require a high end card. Is VRAM a problem in the sense that newer games are becoming more and more VRAM hungry? Sure. But the bigger issues are poor optimization, absurdly overpriced cards, and Nvidia being greedy cunts selling us garbage like this. I'm done with this company for the foreseeable future. No card is worth $1000+, never mind $2000, just so I can run slightly prettier visuals at a clean framerate.

yeah i don't think the ps5 pro was really on the mind of people who are in the market for a 5090 that they would be complaining about it when it's like 700 dollars and the relative equivalent of a potato

What do pc guys do if there under warranty 5090 blows up and damages their other parts that arent under warranty? Also what do you do when your pc is out of commission? Your whole ecosystem is f'd. Gaming, youtube, computer work etc. Looks like a back up console is always mandatory.
