lol sorry man im not in the loop like you are, I know theyre good cards, what i meant is are they as future proof as a 4080, i shouldve clarified
It was just a kinda joking comment.
Though, for sure, an RTX 4080/7900xtx are still great graphics cards. And you won't need to upgrade either of them until the 2030s unless games suddenly become fully path traced or they start going crazy with physics (where are the physics in games?).

I think we're reached the limits. To create a huge game, properly optimized, that runs at 30fps on a 4080/4090 costs over a hundred million dollars USD and I don't think that's the direction game dev should be going.
I miss the days when things weren't about trying to render huge worlds with hundreds of NPCs and 50 million polygons in the scene with the most realistic lighting.

Ray tracing is here to stay. Devs don't want to waste 1000s of hours baking lighting data on static environments. But there's more to a good game than pretty lighting. Hellblade 2 barely passes as a game.

As for the actual topic at hand, RTX 5080 and 5090 will likely be overpriced. But, if possible, I'd like to sell my RTX 4080 and get an RTX 5080, just because.

i know friend im just messing, im still sitting here with a 2070, only recently I started to have to lower settings (cyberpunk, elden ring, some rtx games gave me trouble). You are right about games not being all about lighting, im a bit older now and I don't really care much about 4k, ultra settings, full rtx etc, 1080p still looks good to me. But it would still be nice to play games at their full potential, A 4080s costs $1650 here, 300 or so more than a 4070ti-super, a lot of money in the current climate. I can only imagine how much the newer cards will cost, hopefully theyll be some discounts next year, because over the Christmas period there were none surprisingly.

Why do we get all these reports with "leaked" prices every year when literally know one knows the price except Jensen and he decides the final price RIGHT before the presentation? Not even the board partners know the price at this point.

edit: I guess sites do it for the clicks, but still...

Is that actually true he decides just before without the board knowing?

I've been an 80 series person for a long time but this time i think i'll spend more on the cpu side instead.

If the 5080 is as expensive as the rumors say maybe a 9800x3d + Rdna4 could be a decent combo for 1080p/1440p... 🤔

is it dumb to expect that 5070Ti is gonna cost the same as 4070Ti Super today?
doubtful at least.
TSMC will raise their wafer prices another 10% next year and NVIDIA is probably not gonna just gracefully accept a lower margin on any of their products.

Actually, let`s be real. NVIDIA would have raised the prices regardless of that, simply because they have no competition anymore and people still buy everything that gets produced.

If 5090 is 20-30% faster from current BiS 4090 then it will fly off the shelves even at street price of 3k usd/euro.
5080 is definitelly much harder sell here simply coz 2nd hand 4090 existing.
Unless ngreedia artifically nerfs 4090 performance( simply lower quality of drivers in future games for 40xx series of cards, in particular 4090) 5080 with its 16gigs of vram and only 50% of cuda cores vs 5090, half of its memory bus width too(256-bit 5080 vs 512-bit 5090 vs 384-bit 4090) is fricken DOA at that street price xD

Has anyone seen comparisons of sales or Steam owner data of the say GTX 1070 1080 and 1080ti compared to say the 3070 etc or 4070/80 etc?

Or even the RTX series

I'm on a GTX 1080 still, I'm wondering how many of the 4000 series cards sold compared to other gens, the prices are just insane to me but feel I'm only one of a few resisting or are we seeing less mid-top tier graphic cards in peoples hand?

If I recall correctly - I waited about a year after the paper launch of the RTX 4090 and grabbed an MSI Suprim Liquid X RTX 4090 at Microcenter fairly easily. Hoping (if) I upgrade it will be a similar timeline. Right now I don't really feel the need to upgrade unless I grab one of those upcoming 5k2k Oled Monitors as I am a huge fan of ultrawide 21:9 monitors.

The 4090 outsold every Titan and XX90 card combined, even including the massively inflated 3090 that saw 90% of its demand from crypto miners and covid shortages. It generates more profit per sell than 10+ 60-class and 5+ 70-series cards and has almost certainly been Nvidia's most successful and profitable singular consumer product in their entire history. The lower end 4000s have all sold pretty mediocre, neither great or terrible.

Kopite confirmed DLSS4

Not saying he's lying, but everyone can just edit a webpage and put in any price.
I find it weird that it looks like Amazon or a store web-page, but instead of using a screenshot, the poster made a pic with his smartphone?

I was ready to shell out 2-2.5k (€) for a 5090.....But if the ~1700€ for the 5080 are correct then I guess I absolutely underestimated NVIDIA`s greed and will instead simply stick to my 3080.
Money isn`t really an issue but this is more than just a middle finger to consumers by now, that is beyond insulting and I absolutely refuse to support this.

kopite nothing said about card, just confirmed, DLSS4 is real.

I'm sorry, I wasn't very clear in my response.
I focused my response on the screenshot and my intention wasn't to call him a liar because he says DLSS4 will come, but I wanted to point out that to use the screenshot as confirmation of it coming might be naïve.
Like I said, it looks fishy to me that it's a smartphone picture of a webpage that could just as easily have been made as a sharp screenshot on the PC directly and everyone can go to an Amazon webpage right now and change the title and price to whatever he wants.
I wouldn't be shocked myself if DLSS4 turns out to be true. I'm just skeptical of the screenshot being paraded as confirmation for DLSS4 and price.

HAHAHHA fuk these lot are completely out of touch.
Is the TDP correct? so we cant use our 1k power units?

You could undervolt the GPU to lower power consumption and at the same time reduce the amount of heat it will generate drastically.
If you undervolt a 5090, I'm pretty certain one could even power that with a 1000W PSU.
