Rumor: There's now two different sources saying that the Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed in January 2025 and released in March 2025.

Curios, Alarmo's were also offered in the NY Store. Does that mean I could just buy them off the shelf withought proving I was a member? I'm sure they stocked 5 in the store, so it was not a big deal. LOL!!!
The store in NY was the only retail location you could buy it this year. And no, you didn't need a Nintendo Online account. It'll be available in more stores next year.

So regarding the backwards compatibility, what is the current rumor/speculation regarding performance improvement(s) on OG Switch titles?

Will the games need a patch to take advantage of the hardware or will we simply be able to plug the cartridge in and benefit from the raw power bump?

Sooooo close now!

I can see it.

Nintendo probably want that Best Selling Console of All Time spot and they are close. The more they push back the announcement the less sales they cannibalize.

Also the Switch released in March of 2017.

It'll still be the hottest item by next holiday, what the hell you talking about. You expect any other console manufacturers release a new console by next year?
No of course not, but it still is a good year to do it in. Sony played their hand with the Pro already. Software will probably be a dud for Microsoft I assume and can't say for sure what Sony has in the pipes for next year.

Keep in mind they were coming off a flop. Even if Nintendo are possibly overconfident within this glut of handhelds, we are experiencing, they have to trust their gut the follow up will be massive, bigger better for them in every way. There is no other way for them to look at it. Go all the way or go broke. The Switch 3 on the other hand will probably cause them headaches in about a decades time. But they have time to figure it out of course.

Whenever it releases, i'll be waiting 6 months at least to see if any stick drift occurs in the new joycons. I refuse to buy a new controller every year for the lifespan of this system.

I recall a patent that had water in the Joy cons If I am not mistaken, I guess we won't see that though. They could just logic and go Hall Effect or Tmr but they probably won't.

10% additional tariffs might be coming next year for goods coming from china into the USA, switch 2 price gonna go up in the USA, worst possible time for Nintendo.
It actually occurred to me this morning if the PS5 Pro price will go up next year( since Sony has shown they're more than willing to do it this gen), or if the current pricing has baked-in buffers for the assumption that a Trump win would bring about these tariffs.

I'm so numb and desensitised about anything Switch 2.
The hype train was going full steam ahead, flew past the last stop, derailed and is currently in free fall. They better hurry

lol whom I kidding, I'm buying a Switch 2 day 0

I'm so sick of these bullshit rumors. Look at all the supposed leakers that have been wrong. I say do not count on it.

Yay rumors! I love fake insiders!
This is like the thousands time they said something about Switch 2.0. So far, everything was false.

They will get it right….. like a broken clock.

Is there a blacklist of lying insiders? There should be one.

is it not too rushed if january then released in march? it's not very wise i think
Rushed how? The hardware is basically done and production would basically be set by now most likely anyways.

It’s a new Nintendo console. There will be enough hype that even a 2 month announcement to release won’t hamper them much.

If 8 years on the same janky old piece of shit hardware isn't long enough, well that's just greedy.
It pisses me off, Nintendo has done what they have done in delaying to milk the switch for every penny they can. I'm past the point of annoyance and now actively hope their plan bites them in the ass. That we have waited eight years is ABSURD.

I keep thinking this would be the best day to do so but I somehow wouldn't believe they would do it there and do a direct on their own terms instead.
I agree with you but a few months back Geoff had like kinda a snarky poll when there was like "incoming Nintendo hardware news" that turned out to just be the Alarmo.

Why not keep delaying it until switch beats PS2's lifetime sales? Just to be extra sure.

We all know both Sony and Nintendo care about that milestone, and quite a lot.

January makes sense to reveal it. I'm eager to see if the dock has some special juice to make it look good on 4K TVs. I'm also intrigued if they've done something else other than just upping the specs. I mean, that's enough for me to get it, but it's always fun to have some extra razzle dazzle.

My money is still on a May release date.

Reveal in January and release in March is the fanboys wet dream, but a three month gap is too short to reveal and release a console. Five months minimum from reveal to release.

A 2 month turnaround time? No fucking way. Anyone who believes that is a moron. I don’t care if they have 2 whole sources, lol.

Yeah. If it sounds too good to be true, it’s too good to be true.

Although I think if they were only releasing hardware they could get away with a very short window. Can’t really see them doing the same with their software though. Even Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which had a very quick turnaround, had a 5 month window.

And they almost always build things up with a regular big reveal trailer followed by a trailer featuring the main gameplay gimmick/surprise a few months later for their titles.

It's just another hybrid. There's no need to have 5~6 months of marketing for this thing. Everyone knows what is coming, they just want it to release already.

I'm very confident that mass production has started in october, and Nintendo can stealth it until january.

When Nintendo finally announce it, everyone will talk about the Switch 2. It will spread like fire in a dry forest. The launch game (probably a 3D Mario) will be as known as the sucessor of the juggernaut hybrid, as they will tie together the marketing for both the hardware and the software.

Everybody is gonna buy the exclusive first party title that will be the showcase. There's absolutely no need for a 5 months marketing.

a short announcement to launch timeframe is the best thing Nintendo could do.

just have a big reveal in January where they show all the improvements to the concept like the new joycon mechanism. show maybe a tech demo to show people that the system can run current gen ports, and then reveal Super Mario 128, or whatever it will be called, as a launch game. (naming it Super Mario 128 would maybe be a genius PR move tho...)

hype up Switch 1 owners by showing free updates for their favourite games, like Zelda BotW and TotK running at 4K 60fps, Luigi's Mansion 3 running at 60fps at higher res etc.

and then present the first party lineup for the first year. where Metroid Prime 4 launches as a cross gen game that has raytraced reflections on Switch 2 or something... announce Mario Kart 9, some new whacky IP, maybe a new IP with a more serious/mature tone.

and finally a trailer reel for 3rd party ports like Cyberpunk, Fortnite, Space Marine 2... stuff like that.

the only thing that really can go wrong here is if Nintendo doesn't have a strong software lineup planned... but the 3 month reveal to launch thing is not an issue, and also not unrealistic

How is anyone still excited about this thing? It's literally the Switch Pro SOC that was supposed to come out 3 years ago, that miser ass Nintendo abandoned when they saw wafer shortages and ballooning prices. Now they've sat on it and decided to release it as a fake Switch 2 cause it's dirt cheap to produce...but they'll still charge like $400 for it with the trashest ass LCD you've ever seen and a watch sized battery that necessitates running the SOC at 3W.

Best bet: expect nothing. When have Nintendo ever offered improvements for backwards compatible games just like that?
