Samsung basically announces 24GB 5080 GPU version

So tell me what hardware this is going in, none of nvidia's use gddr. Last gen (hopper) and this gen (blackwell) use HBM. How are you going to sell AI hardware to compete with nvidia if your going to use gddr vs their hbm solutions??? Secondly my response was to a comment saying nvidia were putting this in their AI solutions and thus we wont see it in game gpus.

Think of it more as a lower cost AI option.

I had thought it would be 24 gigs too but was told the 3 gig chips had issues? Has that been rectified?

I don't think there are issues per se... the 3 GB chips is just the second generation of GDDR7. What you are getting now is the first generation.

I think I'll skip RTX50 series. There are no interesting pc games slated to come out in the next 2 years that will need that much power. By the time something comes out, it will be RTX60 series time which would make RTX50 a wasted generation. RTX30 & 40 had cyberpunk. A game that people wanted to play which pushed pc tech hard. There's no cyberpunk equivalent on the horizon atm.

That's why I don't take any early rumours of GPU specs or leaks as facts.

Its all meaningless. Even this very one.

Find me a single generation that was "nailed" rumour wise for GPUs? None.

Why do you feel that nvidia does nothing but high end AI hardware with HBM3e?
This is GDDR for example:

You're getting information from the horses mouth (Samsung) that they are aiming for AI uses.

Would be nice to see this in RTX 5000 super or ti refresh. 3060ti/70/ti and 4070/ti/Super cards should have all had 16 GB VRAM.

Yeah that's nice but it's these 8gb cards it's time to say bye to. I bought an 8gb RX470 for $190 during the Carter administration.

Dude, it's Samsung. They know shit

Where has Samsung said anything about RTX 5080 capacity?
The article even says Samsung expects this Chip to be used in AI Workstations and datacenters... neither of which the 5080 is realistically going to service.
