It was ok. Great visuals and Edgar Wright pizazz but such awfully flat and shallow characters.

The movie has no heart as a result.
Pffttt. No heart.

I love the movie a loot and it's one of my favorite movies ever. It's a great little flick.

But uh Robocop is the best movie ever, son.

It has its flaws, but its one of the most visually impressive movies I've seen in ages, and not in a "Transformers with 10 billion moving pieces and giant explosions" way.
It took visual effects to another level.

I don't really get this. All the stuff Wright did visualizing video game stuff and comic book sound effects wasn't really innovative. The 60s Batman TV show did that way before Scott Pilgrim.

I like it the more times I see it. I love the effects. Not sure if I would call them innovative but they use them very well. Editing hype is overrated though.

It helps that the movie is actually a bunch of little movies. The ending is weak since they attempt to resolve so many things in 3 minutes (Emotionally no less) that simply wasn't in existence the rest of the movie.

Brandon Routh is great and I think the fights peaked there.

Cera stops the movie achieving what it could have been. He is just incapable of playing a character that isn't Michael Cera. The Scott in the comics is nothing like the Scott in the movie, and as a result the whole tone of the story changes.

I enjoyed the movie for what it was, and it's got some fun moments, but I enjoyed the comics a whole lot more.

I liked the film, but you seriously need to watch some more movies. I'd give it a solid B, mostly because of the awesome directing.

Agreed. Shit, I had only read the comics up to the first fight before seeing the movie, and I thought the casting of Cera was absolutely bizarre. Cera did what he could with the role and I did enjoy the movie - it's just he is in no way like the Scott Pilgrim of the comics. Scott of the comics is geeky sexy, Cera is just geeky birdy.

Michael Cera and Bugs talk about girls.

I thought the movie sucked and I couldn't figure out the motivations of any character in the entire damn thing. The main love interest seemed like a narcissistic "too cool for school" bitch and I had no clue why Scott was madly in love with her. Also the whole 8bit arcade stuff got really trite and overdone.

I think most people will disagree.

i'm not sure anyone in this thread agrees on anything

i read the comics as they were released and i liked them well enough. funny, charming stuff. the movie condensed the whole bit into a fun romp full of action and wit. the cast was spot on, too.

granted, the books were "heavier" in that they explored the characters more - in that regard, i suppose books were better - but i think the movie did a damn good job translating the whole thing.

I'm glad I didn't read the comics and was able to enjoy the film on it's own.

For all I know, Scott Pilgrim was portrayed exactly as he was supposed to be.

Not the best movie but I loved it. I haven't seen it scene theatre release though so I wonder how it'll hold up.

Michael Cera is gonna age to look like Mr. Burns.

The problem was that the source material covered alot more than one film can handle, and thus the film suffered greatly as a result. It would have been like if Lord of the Rings was made into 2 films instead of 3 like Peter Jackson originally intended. I believe there should have been at least 2 Scott Pilgrim films made to do the comics justice.
