This is like the ultimate gaming rig!

Just listed a bunch of Genesis stuff for sale in the Buy/Sell/Trade thread. Figured I'd give folks here a heads up:

Wish I could offer you something, but the one-two punch of Xenoblade suddenly becoming readily available and my PlayStation Plus subscription renewing the same weekend (I should've paid more attention to the renewal date <_<) has kinda left me underwater.

S'fine, though. I have tons of games to play through. I should really get around to playing them.

I was looking up 32x stuff and I was floored at how easy to find/cheap that stuff is. I will probably eventually pick up the following once I get a 32x:

Star Wars Arcade
WWF Raw
WWF Wrestlemania Arcade (seems like its the best home port)
Space Harrier
After Burner

Also I just saw this on youtube last night, blew my mind. Someone's custom Genesis/32X/CD system. He made it out of a Saturn case. Ended up selling it for like $800. If Sega made something like this now, I'd totally buy it.

It even has component out in the back. The only thing its missing is a built in multitap.

There is a reason for that.
The 32x and it's games are bad

Oh I know that whole thing. But still. I was expecting a complete Star Wars arcade to be way more rare/expensive than it is. That really is the one game that makes me want a 32x. Plus the video processor is much better on it.

Knuckles Chaotix and Kolibri both run around 50-60 bucks complete. But yeah, nothing quite as expensive as your Sega CD rares.

Edit: I lied. Blackthorne and DarXide are pretty expensive.

Arguable. Get rainbow banding more often on the Genesis, but also get brighter colors. Doesn't mater if you are running straight RGB of course, but that isn't an option for everyone.

I was looking at Blackthrone 32X on youtube and it looks really shitty. I don't know what they did to the graphics, but it doesn't look as good as I remember the DOS version being.

I just got a SCART cable, just need to get the SCART to component box. I'll try that out soon to see if that works, but I know its finicky and apparently doesn't work on all TVs due to trouble syncing the image or something like that.

In terms of the brighter colours-- any modern TV can compensate for that by changing your brightness/contrast/gamma settings.

Spiderman 32X is the most expensive one

Don't forget World Series Baseball. Honestly, there is only around 40 games released for it, in all regions. But, you have mid-high range games like Kolibri, Blackthorne, Zaxxon and Kunckles Chaotix, high range like Darxide, Worlds Series Baseball, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure and the 300-400+ Spider-Man 32x. Most of the other good ones (Space Harrier, After Burner) will run you around 20 bucks a pop CIB too. Honestly, ration wise, its probably 50:50 cheap and expensive games.

So, i started a little project on tumblr: segaendings.tumblr.com

Basically, i'm keeping track and keeping a journal of sorts of me, trying to beat the entire library of Sega games (obviously, just the Mega Drive/CD/32X stuff). If any of you want to follow it, you're welcome to, if you want to watch me descend into madness.

You guys were right about the PS II guide. Stumbling around Shure, and the map is pretty accurate for the most part, but its already mislabeled a chest as having 20 meseta when it actually had 200, and mentions a chest with a shotgun...where none exists.

yeah man, i gotta look up the notes young Irish wrote in mine but i recall some Climatrol/that underwater dungeon errors and a few painful ones during the brutal dungeons on Dezo later. also it's notoriously spoiler-rific! but a great guide otherwise, and a great pack-in; still amazed people complained about it.

I received that model 1 Sega CD I bought a few days back yesterday. Amazing shipping speed, sometimes I have to wait 2 months to get stuff and this came in less than a week,

The seller really packed it carefully, everything looks OK. I will test it this week, fingers crosssed.

That's great. I approve of the pictures where the things would actually work.

How are those wireless 6-button controllers actually? This is going to sound nuts, but I feel like I have a lot of trouble finding a 6-button controller that I actually find comfortable. The standard ones just feel a little small to me, causes cramps. A Sega-designed 6-button controller with the larger form factor of the 3-button controllers sounds great, IR be damned.

Oh, they're great. It sounds exactly like what your'e looking for. The IR is actually really good on them as well.

So what's the biggest stack that you can put on a Genesis and actually have it play?

I've done CD + 32X + Game Genie + S&K + S3 and it worked just fine. I think I've heard that if you have multiples of S&K that it just passes through? Is that true? Could you add S&K ad infinitum?

That's the tallest I've done as well, and think that might be the most that will work. I think if you have multiple S&K's connected, it only does the first 'link"? I'd also imagine you'd start having (voltage?) issues with the connection being so long.

I have several Genesis, Sega CDs, and Saturns. But only one 32x. Would love to try something like this, that thing is awesome!

Damn.

Finding a copy of Sonic 1 on eBay that doesn't have "NOT FOR RESALE" on it is surprisingly difficult.

HD DVD on the 360 was like the karaoke add on or whatever.

At least the crappy karaoke add-ons for the MD and DC were classy and integrated. HD-DVD drive is just pure damn crap style-wise. Connected by a cable...same reason I think folks who connect a crappy third-party HDs to Wii U (or Wii, even) are missing the plot. Fuck that noise.

^agreed, i had an external for my wii that was hidden behind a shelf, in shame. people mock, but i love the tower of power the genesis made, design more add-ons uniformly like that!

32x was hardly uniform. It looks like a big bulbous tumor, regardless of which version of the Genesis you put it on.

nonsense, it's the power converter's bulky/awkward cousin, nothing more

always thought it looked like a retarded mushroom

So, I'm torn between buying a used MD1 or a new MD2. I've heard that there's image and sound differences between them, anything huge? I'm going to buy a RGB cable for it, is that going to negate or amplify the differences in quality?

Found these in my parents attic, still in decent condition.

MM96 is awesome, fond memories of playing that a lot as a kid.

Zero Tolerance I had to youtube to see what game that was, I would have loved to play that game as a kid, not because it looks like a doom clone but it just looks fun and cool.

That is interesting!!! Were there any other games that came with this? So was this game not officially supported by Sega or something?

This is the only one i remember.

I think it was, but Dragon Ball was very popular in Portugal and they wanted to cash in!

There was a 2nd print and they used the French version (PAL cartridge).

France had an official release of the Sailor Moon beltscroller too, IIRC

edit: whoops, looks I was thinking of the SNES one, not the MD one.
