Video game Mario Wynans

Lol, this bootleg Russian Mario game has a crazy soundtrack:

Haha don't fall in a pit if you don't want to crash the game ^^

I'm actually surprised, they seem to have used a different engine and mostly new sprites? At least it's not one of those countless Super Mario World hacks. So, props for trying I guess? [edit] I'm stupid, it's a Megadrive game, so of course it's not. Forgot where I was.

^nice! i just sent ZAMN to CGR a while back, heh.

i had a loose copy of Rampage edition for years before realizing it's a whole other (better) game too!

Quick question: I bought a non-TMSS model 1. Is there anything special I need to do to it to play mega drive games?

By MegaDrive games, do you mean European or Japanese games?

Most European releases should work fine, unless they're PAL optimized. Some releases after 1993 or so are region-locked, so you'll need something like a Game Genie or some other cartridge that'll let you get past the lock.

For Japanese games, you'll need a pass-through cartridge, like a Game Genie or any other cheat cartridge, since the cartridges are shaped differently, and won't fit into a standard Genesis cartridge slot. Again, some games after 1993 or so might have region-locking, so you'll need to get past that somehow.

With a Game Genie (which is what I use), you'll need to find codes for each game that's region-locked. Non-locked games should work fine without having to do anything. There are also cartridges with switches in them for switching regions, but as far as I'm aware, those are rare and more expensive, hence why I went for a Game Genie, which are cheap and easy to find.

I've thought about sending some games to Classic Game Room, but...I'm afraid of my games getting lost in the mail. Plus it seems like Mark doesn't usually accept loans, anyway, and I'm not getting rid of any of my games. Hah.

Jurassic Park: Rampage Edition is nuts. There's like a hundred things trying to kill you at the same time. It's so over the top, especially that Savannah level. But it's pretty fun, though. Not sure if I like it more than the first game yet.

Speaking of Jurassic Park, i really, really liked The Lost World game for the Genesis game. Open-ended, very impressive graphically, and it plays pretty well. Sad that the Sega CD game had to suck.

^but it taught you so much about dinosaurs!

i totally beat that one, and not just the cheap ending where you blow it all up. the triceratops stuff was tricky but man fuck that raptor cave.

I finally got around to playing Demolition Man after picking up a boxed copy for $3 at my local Savers. This game is fun! Really fast paced run and gun with smooth animation and hilarious Stallone groans. May have to revisit the movie to get the full experience.

I love my Sega CD copy. Which,i finally got my copies of Revenge of the Ninja and the greatest FMV game ever, Wirehead, in today. With that, i just hit 80 games. The light at the end of the tunnel for a complete collection of Sega CD is coming.

^discovered those ones in recent years but they're among my favorites too! which ones are you missing to complete the set man?

At this point, most of it is either the higher-tier cardboard games (Time Gal, Road Avenger, Wolfchild), random common sports title, and the only 2 super high-end games looming are Keio and Space Adventure Cobra.

So that game of Toe Jam & Earl I started earlier this week was in a pretty bleak shape when I continued it this morning - Level 18 (having just fallen to 17 when I paused), last life to go, four pieces remaining, way too many damn boogeymen. Then I accidentally fell two levels, stumbling upon a carrot guy, who pointed out to me that I had been hoarding two Promotion presents the whole time, which gave me another life to spare. (Also a Total Bummer, which I dropped like toxic waste.)

I then proceeded to finish all of the Fixed Game, somehow without dying. That's a first for me. (Having identified most of the good presents helped, since I could then run around with Hi-Tops or Rocket Shoes or Icarus Wings all day long.)

The TMSS program keeps you from playing bootlegs and non-licensed games. Japanese games are licensed games, so it doesn't affect them at all.

J games are also too wide for the cartridge slot. Some have no region protection (Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair) and some have it built-in to the cart itself (Monster World IV). Hell, some Sega CD games even refer back to check what model Genesis you have before running. Only way around that is a region switch mod on the console itself.

You could use a pass-through like a Game Genie on many games if they don't have region protection.

Yup, and the Game Genie has codes to get past the protection on the games that do.

Sometimes the codes are long, though. Very long.

The Game Genie still won't help with the Sega CD issue. The region switch is all-inclusive, but you'll still need the Genie or some other pass-through to make the carts fit.

What a mess.

Doesn't the mega ever drive also let you switch the bios region for the CD?

The Mega Cart I own lets the Sega CD boot up in any region BIOS you choose, since all three regions' hardware is basically identical. That's enough for most games.

What I am saying is that some Sega CD games check back to see what region Genesis is plugged in before they decide to run or not, and the only way around that is to use a region switch on the Genesis.

Right, that only effects the cd... Holly shit! That's the most over kill region locking I've heard of.

I haven't heard of that one... which Sega CD games do that?

Has the the mega amp mod been discussed in here? I read it described as a discrete audio mod which I presume means that it pretty much eliminates that annoying background hissing noise on models 1s. This also aparently introduces model 1 level audio to model 2s since it's a universal mod... I'd link to some yuotube demos but I'm on the tablet right now. They are there though -- very impressive.

Is that related to the CCA mod?

I think I've stumbled across this before. Crazy approach. Wish he had better capturing equipment though. :(

Edit: Spoke too soon. I see he has nice audio captures in the 2nd half of the video.

yeah. I'm curious why he didn't just record from the source from the start, lol. The recordings at the end sound good. Turned me on to the Master of Monsters soundtrack which sounds great. I had never heard of it before.

Wait they're making physical copies of Overdrive? I want one. How can I get one?

We have made 30 for now, which all are sold already..We are seriously thinking about a 2nd batch because the demand seriously exceeds the availability..

But its time consuming, the carts/pcb's have been produced in china, the eeproms soldered in ukrain, the cases and shells scavenged from ebay, sending everything across europe and we are now finally at the stage of putting everything together, folding the covers and posters, stickering the carts, and slowly starting to send em out... soon :)

About the shells, I think Watermelon make their own, maybe you could buy some from them instead of scavenging eBay? It would probably be cheaper too.

In any way, if it means it's cheaper / less cumbersome for you, I'm pretty sure you could sell the soldered PCB along with a sticker and leave the easy yet time-consuming part (scavenge shell and box, print the cover, assemble everything) to the buyer. I know I would be content with that. [edit] Hell, send me the programmed eeprom and a sticker and I'd mod my cart myself. Although maybe not everyone can do that.

So, just got done beating this game for me Sega Endings blog:
tumblr_n3j8tbKbBe1sfuqvoo6_1280.jpg

You know, its not the most mind-blowing game in the world, but it has a pretty cool soundtrack, the levels require some serious thinking and reflexes, and never gets overly frustrating, it really finds the sweet spot. I know a lot of games have been talked about as being "cult classics" or "hidden gems", but i've never seen this game mentioned. That's a shame, because its honestly a fun little puzzle/action game.

Yeah. I'd say, given the on and off nature of having school and work, it probably took me around 6-7 hours. I can beat roughly the first half of the game without losing a life, but a couple of those end stages are pretty rough, and the boss battle at the end of the game is really annoying since the boss is off-screen half the time. Overall though, certainly better than most puzzle-oriented games i've played on the older systems. Only paid 8 bucks for my copy, wasn't too bad. Seems like 15-20 for a complete one currently.

You got a secret bonus point.

They removed all the dialogue for the US release and changed the appearance of a couple of bosses as well as Trouble Bruin's face.

Also that's not his name.

Jack Flack always escapes!
Found a couple games at Half Price Books this morning. :D

There were about 15 genesis games, 10 SNES games and about 10 N64 games there. I couldn't buy them all or else I'd be broke.
