Shadow of Mordor deserves more attention. Come in and be hyped with me.

One of the few games Im really interested in.

Dunno if being Lord of the Rings hurts or helps it. Maybe if it were an offshoot of Dragon Age and published by ea it'd get more attention.

I think it could be a real surprise, the Arkham City of the gen.

I think the LOTR stuff is baggage more than anything. Being based on that license doesn't do much for me.

Sure, I always recommend to wait until a game is out so you can make an informed purchase.

I just wanted to counter the Molyneux comparison because he is known for talking and making up features mid-interview.
Monolith are showing the Nemesis system by just playing the game and based on that the Nemesis system is real enough. The question is just how much are the systems needed if you can mash your way to victory.

Oh I agree, its far different than Molyneaux's unique brand of outright lying

I thought hype threads were a no no.

Either way, I am interested in this game. But I am not setting my expectations too high. It is a LOTR game after all, and most of those have failed to live up to expectations (at least the ones I have played).

There hasn't been a great LotR game since Return of the King in 2003.

Looks great watching that hour stream it did everything it promised and more without showing any story missions. This game looks like it might have the most replay value of every singleplayer game this fall.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but as a big Tolkein fan, this game seems super juvenile and that worries me. Tolkien's world was always so full of adventure and whimsy juxtaposed with some really heavy dark parts. There was weight to everything. This just feels like... video games... I don't know. Like, grimdark teenage male power fantasy to the max.

It looks like the kind of video game I'm not into.

My hype has remained on full for this game! It has Sauron in it for cryin out loud! Besides that, I'm lovin the gameplay, and the fact the story don't end when your character dies. Not to mention they moved this game's release date to my birthday! A b-day gift to me from me! ^_^

Huh. Didn't know this was open world. If I like the hobbit will I like this game? I mean, I haven't watched all the LOTR films but I have seen the Hobbit duo.

I had paid zero attention to this game thinking it was an MMORPG. Now that I've read this and gone over the linked footage, I'm super hyped. This and Destiny might be all I need for the fall :)

You should really watch the LotR trilogy

This is going to be the first game I pick up post-TLOU Remaster so I'm extremely hyped for it to say the least.

Prior to watching a video of the game system I was fairly uninterested in this, but that video did change my mind and I'm certainly keeping a close eye on this now. A developer trying to do something new is great in itself and there do seem to be some nice ideas in play here. Nothing I've seen since has done anything to put me off, quite the opposite, although I'm still not 100% convinced as yet.

One of my concerns is that the setting (Mordor right?) is potentially doomed to be dark, grey and uniformly hellish, which makes sense in context but might become a tad overwhelming after hours of it. We'll see.

Put me down as a likely to buy.

I actually preordered this game immediately after DQ:I got delayed. Had to have something at the start of October.

Sounds promising, but definitely waiting for reviews and user impressions on this one. Hope it turns out great.

open sandbox style of a game like The Witcher or Dragon Age.
This doesn't compute for me. Neither of those games strike me as "open sandbox" style games. Is the game world structure similar to those or are there more apt comparisons?

Yes. The Hobbit sets the stage for the chain of events in Lord of the Rings. This game shares the same world and overarching story line.

It screams Peter Molyneux hype.
Yep.

Countless times have I heard the "it really does the things!" kind of hype and then in the end it's just... eh. I feel like when people get a chance to do previews they project soooo much into what it could potentially be and then take that as what it is. The worst offender for me was probably Omerta, which people were saying was like Tropico mixed with XCOM in a gangster world. Then it came out.

That's not to say I think SoM will be a travesty like that game. I think Monolith is a talented group and they'll at very least get a nice action game with cool style and well-functioning systems. However, I can't hold any expectations of real innovations or revolutions of gameplay. The boy has cried wolf way too many times in the industry and I see it as a chronic condition now. I'll play it and then I'll know what it is and what it did and did not accomplish for the medium.

I don't know. Graphically it looks "okay", and the strategic element just seems like it honestly won't matter all that much in the grand scheme of things. It also looks like it's going to have ultra simple Assassin's Creed/Batman combat, which is pretty boring after a while.

Please go and watch the LOTR Trilogy (Extended) ASAP, you are doing yourself a disservice.

Fucking amazing films and the legendary Oscar sweep in 2004 was icing on the cake.

Both Battle for Middle Earth games would like to have a stern word with you.

tbh I didn't play the second, the first was above average at best. Especially considering the other RTS's around at the time. I did quite like it tho.

I'm hyped. Best Buy is offering $10 preorder bonus when you are a gamers unlocked member, so I'm gonna get it and get Dragon Age later on.

Getting this day one. Didn't know that the last gen version was being developed by another studio, neat.

What's there not to deliver, the Nemesis system? Everything else is pretty textbook.

No, I am just explaining what the other guy means by "Peter Molyneux hype".
Personally I think it looks great. I am a big fan of anything lotr related too.
But yeah, the nemesis system remains to be seen, I have a feeling it might be not too in depth. But it will be a fine game nonetheless.

Can't wait to play it - hope the combat is as satisfying as the prospect of the Nemesis system. Enjoyed the interview with Troy Baker as well as all of the trailers.

pre-ordered yesterday

OT: do you have a GTR?

Mine is a 2012 White Pearl Premium with some mods(Cobb, Custom tune, injectors,Meisterschaft Exhaust)

I know man. I know. I want to so I will probably do it soon.

Fuck it. Maybe I will do it tonight...

I love The Hobbit films more than most, but the LotR trilogy are a class above. The best fantasy films of all time (except for Star Wars maybe)

The game is being developed for PS4, XB1, and PC. Another developer is handling the port for PS3 and 360. The last-gen versions will have reduced features and a lesser version of the Nemesis system, so there is no need to worry about the negatives of a "cross-gen" title here.

WHAT?!?!?! I didn't know this, and was seriously concerned at how it may be hampered due to the cross-gen. This was confirmed?? If so, that removes my only fear for this game. At first I thought it was just an action/adventure game, but after watching gameplay with dev commentary I'm so stoked for this game. Now even more so!

Can't wait for my own copy....my....precious

Those screenshots in the OP look like bullshots. Anyone know if they have been touched up even a little bit?

The Nemesis system sounds cool but I hope there is something more in the game.

I hope the world is engaging than open fields and mountains

I think it has multiple wide open areas, which made me think of The Witcher and Dragon Age, but perhaps those comparisons aren't particularly apt?

Damn. I really want to watch them now. I love the architecture and the geography of middle earth, so I hope the incorporate that into the game. If I see that then Day 1. The moon in Destiny with the underground caves and structures/bridges really made me think of the elven architecture.

I am cautiously optimistic about this game. Not letting my hopes get too high. Monolith has released some duds, too. Plus, it's a licensed IP and the quality of LotR games hasn't been consistent. But I do hope this is the one that breaks through.
