Any gameplay videos? Everything i see or find is "story trailer" or "cgi battle sequence"

Im skeptical about buying this at release, but enjoyed the dev's other games below $20. Switching from fps to rpg might be a mistake on their part.

Damn. I really want to watch them now. I love the architecture and the geography of middle earth, so I hope the incorporate that into the game. If I see that then Day 1. The moon in Destiny with the underground caves and structures/bridges really made me think of the elven architecture.

Sounds like you will be a fan then. As Vashetti mentioned you should make sure you watch the extended versions, it makes a big difference.

The game is fully set behind enemy lines. You don't buy different gear, you get bonuses after completing challenges.

I actually didn't know that, thats kind of a shame. Where exactly is it set, I am assuming it's Mordor/Ithilien/Dagorlad.

Check out the video I linked in the end of the OP. 30 minutes of gameplay and dev commentary/q&a's.

I'm interested in this as well as that Souls clone game(don't remember the name), but for this type, I need to know a few things.

- Framerate, and is it stable or fucked?

- Combat mechanics. How tight and heavy are they? Is there "mashing" Does timing play a real factor in surviving a battle?

- Is the game supremely balanced? I won't be getting thrashed for any reason other than my own terribleness right? No cheap, artificial deaths or damage? Is the camera busted and interfering with gameplay?

I'm very interested, but if it isn't good on a fundamental level, it's as good as dead to me.

The main innovation in the game is the Nemesis system. This allows some enemies to remember your interactions with them and adjust their behavior and actions toward you accordingly. As one example, a low level orc may somehow manage to kill you. In turn, he will move up in their rank, as killing you was an important goal for him. You may be revived and meet up with him again some time down the line and he'll comment on how you're supposed to be dead, and may remember things about your interactions. It's a very sophisticated and deep system.

Now this is the sort of system in which I think the "infinite power of the cloud" could really be leveraged.

It's got an Assassin's Creed feel in it's movement, a Batman Arkham feel to it's combat, and the open sandbox style of a game like The Witcher or Dragon Age.

This is my problem with it, totally unoriginal and derivative. Honestly looks like your typical run of the mill 'AAA' western game. I'm sure it will be a solid game much like the unoriginal and highly derivative Tomb Raider 2013.

Edit: Also the Nemesis system doesn't sound interesting. Definitely see the Molyneux comparison there. Honestly it will just increase the enemy's stats much like difficulty scaling hardly revolutionary.

I've been talking this game up as much as I can. Whether the final product meets its ambition or not, a AAA game taking risks on pushing the medium forward in reactive AI and an evolving world is worth paying attention to. At best it's my GOTY, at worst future games can pick up the ball and run with it.

That's a really shallow analysis. The combat may be inspired by other franchises, but the game is bringing entirely new systems to the table.

I didn't really care about this game before reading this thread. After watching that detailed explanation of the Nemesis system and hearing about the last gen being developed by a different team I'm definitely hyped now. Since October is becoming pretty bleak after all the delays I'll probably have time to play it.

He has a GTR avatar so I figured I would ask if he was part of the brotherhood :)

Why you paying so much for these games? You need Best Buy Gamer's Club Unlocked (or Jesus). Get it when it's 50% off then all those would be 20%. And most of them have another $10 bonus for preordering.

Great thread. I've been hyped for Shadow of Mordor for a long time, it's easily the game I'm most looking forward to for the rest of this year. It's also the only game I have pre-ordered at the moment.

I'm pretty hyped for it. I'm trying to keep myself a little less hyped though because I don't want to set my expectations too high.

I for some reason avoided looking at this game for a long time. I love the LOTR movies but hate the games. I had no idea Monolith was making it and I had no idea how good it looked. A few weeks ago I watched the E3 coverage... it is now one of the games I look forward to the most. I like my games violent and the violence in this game looks top notch amongst other things that look great about it.

Aw yeah, pumped to see this thread. The recent story trailer was excellent and really added a bunch of intruige to the world/characters that I wasn't feeling before.

Probably won't pick it up on release day because of Forza Horizon 2 but will hopefully look to get it this year.

My pre-order reciept is like double that length haha

But yeah can't wait this. Might have to pop this in before I start Forza.

Honestly? It sounds (and looks) too good to be true. My hype levels are cautious. But I'll be following this and its reviews very closely. It looks to have literally everything I wanted War in the North to have.

I already have my copy pre-ordered. While I don't let myself get hyped for stuff, believe me, I'm really, really looking forward to this one.

I've been hyped since the first trailer. I though the assassin's creed comparisons were kind of an insult considering there's so much going on with the nemesis system.

Glad to see that this game pushes the min requirements on PC.
Looks like I'll have to upgrade my CPU for both this and DR3.

This has been under my radar, but upon looking into it, it looks like Assassin's Creed in LotR paint. Weren't animations taken from AC and used in this game?

I love Monolith, and will probably pick this up anyway.

Uh ... it doesn't just level stats... it also changes how the world interacts with the character, how they interact with your character and it can happen to any NPC.

I can't think of a game that has something like it.

I've been excited about this game for a while. Pretty relieved that it's being moved up to September rather than October. Should give it a bit more breathing room, and I'll have more time to play it before the October onslaught begins. :)

I'll believe it when I see it. I think it will be fairly superficial and certainly not the revolutionary AI advancement it's being made out to be.

Thank you so much OP! I was just thinking yesterday I wish someone would make a thread just like this.

I'm hoping this is my game of the year. Currently it's Wolfenstein
