Slitterhead drops in 3 weeks, where is the hype?

Unfortunately yes. This is neither a aaa nor refined sh*T mechanics.

If the plot is good and gameplay is fun it can be a hit. Devs need to learn to cater to the niche audience better. Unironically I enjoyed the Xbox tgs showcase because the devs showed actual gameplay and could describe their game vs western devs marketing speak.

These gameplay games (core) need better reviewers due to mainstream dropping the ball aka find good streamers with gaming knowledge is essential.
I'll be playing it for sure, I usually prefer weird, quirky, risktakers and smaller games.

I am hyped. But I feel that the digital version will get quite cheap sooner than later and since the disc version is not available in Brazil for pre order... I will probably wait for a price drop on the digital version and eventually I will buy the disc too.
Same!

I'll be doing my part at launch! It will be very niche though and while I expect sales to be poor I hope they manage to do well enough with it.

My hype is usually less without a physical version since I never preorder those.
There's the day one edition that you can buy from Amazon US, but if you're not from NA you might as well import the Japanese limited edition from Amazon JP since it's priced cheaper than the ESRB day one edition. It also comes with English language support.

I am one of the biggest Silent Hill fans, but Slitterhead just looks like a 5-6/10 game at best. I just don’t have high hopes for the game.
You can have one of the biggest creators at the helm, but the product will still only be mediocre, if the team is not good enough.

A little more than week left. Day 1 edition looks cool. Wonder how a 360 game pad would fair since the developers were using one during the developer diaries.

From the creator of Silent Hill and Siren apparently

This video makes it look really awesome

Might pick this one up, does anyone know if it's getting a physical release?

I really want to enjoy what i have seen of the game... But it's giving me Shenmue 3 vibes.

and this is from someone who loves shenmue and funded/beat shenmue 3 and didn't hate it or myself.

To clarify, a game from an older seasoned game developer who clearly has a much bigger vision than budget and while seeds of greatness are there. It'll not reach expectations when it launches because of how its held back by it's budgetary constraints.

I'm quite intrigued by the possession mechanic, the asian urban occult setting and use of gory bio-organic weapons. It definitely looks like something that would only come from a Japanese AA production.
It comes down to the price wether I'll buy it upon release.

The combat looks like a really cool idea executed very poorly. It's the vibe I get from the whole game. Great ideas but weak and goofy in practice.

Like the combat seems to translate to standing still, waiting for a direction press to parry and then performing melee spam with PS2 levels of hit feedback and animations. Everything looks so weightless and stiff.

Maybe it'll turn out to be a diamond in the rough but the most I can say is that it looks...interesting in concept. Also the minutes of slow walking/stumbling around didn't help.

This is giving me Ghostwire Tokyo vibes, not the gameplay, but that it looks like a weird good game that few will play and really like. Probably won't get a sequel. The box art on both is the best looking thing about the games. ha!
I like weird ok-ish games though, so I might play this at some point.

Im hyped too.

People, go 12 minutes into the video and watch from there. Beginning is tutorial slop.

Game looks dope.

Also, Yamaoka did the OST.

Okay after watching the video I'm interested, but will wait to see what the consensus is after it's realeased. It looks very jank, but willing to give it a fair shot

The director is on record saying that it has similarities to Ghostwire. He said Ghostwire helped them envision things they were trying to do with Slitterhead. He also said the level of quality in Ghostwire was scary, in that it's the quality level that audiences expect. Sad because Ghostwire was largely criticized when it came to visuals, completely absurd IMO.

Point being, Bokeh Studios is definitely not making AAA games and the director has been forthcoming with how they are addressing that aspect but many replies in this thread more or less confirm how cynical people can be with smaller games.

I think it boils down to AA jank, AA budget not enough to deliver ambition and combat based instead of survival horror.
Director said they went with action over traditional survival horror adventure because survival horror fans are passionate but small, and he hopes that the horror action will draw a larger audience. The team also has members from Gravity Rush and they are more familiar with action, so the Horror Action made more sense for them to focus on.

Didn't know about all that. Deadly Premonition is one of my favorite games and I even played the 2nd for like 30+ hours on Switch at like 15fps . . . so I'm definitely open minded to jank.
Everyone should play DP to make them more open to smaller AA jankish games IMO.
