Slitterhead drops in 3 weeks, where is the hype?

The director is on record saying that it has similarities to Ghostwire. He said Ghostwire helped them envision things they were trying to do with Slitterhead. He also said the level of quality in Ghostwire was scary, in that it's the quality level that audiences expect. Sad because Ghostwire was largely criticized when it came to visuals, completely absurd IMO.

Point being, Bokeh Studios is definitely not making AAA games and the director has been forthcoming with how they are addressing that aspect but many replies in this thread more or less confirm how cynical people can be with smaller games.
People are idiots. Ghostwire is gorgeous. Just the school DLC missions alone are insane. It's basically Shin Megami Tensei if it was a AA+ action game, close to AAA. Atlus couldn't accomplish that in 1000 years but everyone acts like they're flawless. Slitterhead is also probably going to be more technically advanced than Atlus games, even with its modest budget and presentation. People selectively care about production values based on if it's familiar and an established series, and what they are told to think about it.

Man, the school mission with the anatomy dummy. So freaking good and SCARY. That game is so damn good. I still cant believe the amount of dog piling it got.

I loved GT. Played it on PS5. Wanted to go for another run on Xbox with the new dlc but the performance is even worse

Didn't know about all that. Deadly Premonition 2 is one of my favorite games and I even played the 3rd for like 30+ hours on Switch at like 15fps . . . so I'm definitely open minded to jank.
Everyone should play DP2 to make them more open to smaller AA jankish games IMO.
I tend to like "janky" games too and if you play them on a regular basis, you come to realize that its not always jank, but uniqueness. Modern gamers are accustomed to many games feeling the same, anything that requires learning through trial and error is dismissed as jank. Maybe DP2 doesnt fit that but in my experience thats usally the case with smaller games.

Thanks for reminder of DP2, I need to get that. I loved the first.

You made me realize i was off on my DP numbers. ha. DP 1 is one of my favorite games. DP2 is worth it if you like the first one, but yea it's definitely not as good.
I started playing Mister Mosquito the other day. You wanna talk about weird controls/jank. I had to find a wiki on that game to even understand it.

I'm hyped for the Yamaoka OST.

Spooky/Droning music cued up. Always turn the Sound Effects down though. Way too many games have them too high in the mix.

Ive been rewatching the dev diaries, I legit have high hopes for this game.

Dev team seems really motivated and realistic about what they can pull off with their budget. A good focus on QA, no toxic positivity. Industry vets, leveraging their strengths. Cross-gen game. Takes place in a fictional Hong Kong. They have really tried to make it as appealing as they can to a large audience.

Toyama said the other day that hed like to collaborate with Mikami on a title. Considering theyre both their own boss, I could see this happening if Slitterhead turns a profit.

Yoshida is promoting it.

The physical is only $60 and comes with a physical artbook and CD for the OST. Really tempted to double dip for that art book.

"Slitterhead is completed, and we’re celebrating at the studio before the releaseOur team started during the pandemic, and after about 4 years of development, we will finally launch the game next week on November 8! We can’t wait for you to dive into the gritty world of Kowlong and uncover the mystery of Slitterhead.ONE MORE WEEK!!"

I'm keeping an eye on this. It looks pretty janky, but it good be a good janky, or a bad janky. We'll find out soon enough!

After watching the gameplay video someone linked, I wish them the best. We need more risk taking in the industry. It’s all safe and homogenous now.

I'm picking it up.

I don't expect most people on here to really give it a shot. It's lower budget, and it's a new IP so 2 strikes already. Add reviews coming in under 90 and that's basically 3 strikes you're out around here. Really shows the truth around stuff like Flintlock, which was a great action game released this year. Has nothing to do with DEI. People are just very safe and conservative with their purchases and want safe gameplay they recognize in established franchises or remakes with nice production values.
The movie industry is the same- Marvel capeshit forever.

Why I never heard before of this game? Seems absolutely awesome, some junky vibes, but who cares. Now I'm interested.

Found a review.

I'm tell you what i'm not gonna do : use a laughing emoji
Other than that, you've posted a "review" from a "guy" that uses speech synthesis AND is using all the promo material so far for his "review"...

Amazing really

Edit : fuck it, i'm gonna use the laughing emoji

Seems like a bullshit channel. That channel has multiple Slitterhead reviews:

...as well as early reviews for STALKER 2, Mario and Luigi Brothership, Lego Horizon, DQIII HD, etc.

"On older hardware, particularly PCs that just meet the minimum requirements, some players have reported framerate drops and crashes."

LMAO. Yeah, this is fake.

Really makes you think who's the target audience for these type of channels and what they get out of it, I really don't get it...

Gonna fire this up tonight. Like everything I've seen about it. New IP with great pedigree, Pro enhanced (they removed the enhanced tag wtf), and good price.

Played about two hours. I don’t get the hate? It’s got some areas that aren’t fine tuned as some games out there, but it’s a very interesting game. I would call it a hidden gem. It reminds me of all the horror manga I’ve ever read. From PTSD, Parasyte, and Homunculus.

It’s probably not for everyone, but I can see a lot of people enjoying it.

A week and a half ago I said:
It looks like the the type of 6-7/10 game that I enjoy playing and will be considered underrated or a hidden gem 5 years from now.
Glad to see I was right.

I would get it to support, but I got a PS5 Pro with plenty of games to play right now and will wait till it goes on sale when I can give it the attention it deserves. It may also get improvement or enhancements through patches.

It's got atmosphere(setting and music) and the lack of voiceacting and how it's presented is reminiscent of games from 1990s where you get a lot of information more quickly and the voiced scenes are more like a reward from progressing or doing a level.

Combat is dated but serviceable but the main draw is the setting and story which I like a lot. In the manner that I want to continue playing to find out what happens next. Feels like watching a "Fringe" arc focused on these brain eating monsters.

I do like the manga comparison because it plays out like one thus far.

Seems like another win for the Horror genre IMO. Lots of great Horror games this year IMO.
