High school theatre performances. And then got cast in West Side Story.I can’t figure out how Ziegler got her start. Was she on a tv show or something?
Given that she's supposedly a good singer and theatre performer, she's probably best suited for that kind of entertainment role. It's clear when it comes to Hollywood, social media, smacktalking back etc... her attitude doesn't fit well nor has her success. Most of her Hollywood stuff bombs out either financially, reviews or both though she's been blessed with a combo of Steven Spielberg, superhero movies, and Disney. You cant get more backing than that. She's basically tagged as unlikeable so much her recent movies all get hugely dislike ratioed on YT too as people like to dunk on her. Her overall best success is probably Hunger Games which made money and got decent reviews.
But if she kept a low profile doing Broadway kind of stuff, she'd probably have big success.

Rachel Zegler - Wikipedia
Zegler attended Immaculate Conception High School,[12] where she began her career starring in several musicals, playing Belle in Beauty and the Beast (2016), Ariel in The Little Mermaid (2017),[13] Dorothy Brock in 42nd Street (2018), and Princess Fiona in Shrek The Musical (2019).[14][15] For all four performances, she received Metropolitan High School Theater award nominations in the Actress in a Leading Role category.[14] Her other roles have included Serena in Legally Blonde, Cosette in Les Misérables, and Millie in Thoroughly Modern Millie.[16] Her YouTube channel was active from July 2015 to August 2023[17] which garnered media coverage and positive critical reception.[18][19] As of 2022, her video of herself singing "Shallow", from A Star Is Born, had garnered over 12.2 million views on Twitter.[20][10]
In January 2018, director Steven Spielberg posted an open casting call via Twitter for a new film adaptation of West Side Story.[21] Zegler, then 16 years old, responded to the casting call tweets with videos of herself singing "Tonight" and "I Feel Pretty"; she had performed the role at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in 2017.[22][10] She was selected from over 30,000 applicants for the role of Maria, marking her film debut.[23] The film was released in December 2021,[24] and earned acclaim from critics and audiences.[25][26][27] For her performance, she received a Critics' Choice Movie Award nomination for Best Young Performer and won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy,[28][29] making her the first actress of Colombian descent to win in that category as well as the youngest winner in that category at 20 years old.[30]
