[Symphogear] - All Seasons
That was a pretty fun ride. It's always a pleasure to watch a trashy show that truly understands it's own appeal both in terms of ludicrous plot developments and silly action set pieces.
Like any modern otaku product, the series is packed to the gills with references. Most of the Kamen Rider, Wild Arms and PreCure references flew over my head, but I certainly got a few of them such as GaoGaiGar:
and Giant Robo:

[Symphogear GX] - 1
Well, the writers certainly understand how to start a season.
The opening set piece of this season is so ludicrous and charming that I have my doubts whether anything in the rest of the series will be able to live up to it. The rest of episode certainly did not, even though it was still extremely entertaining throughout. They managed to hit all the right notes (hur hur) in terms of providing fanservice (in the pure sense) while also setting up plot lines and characters for the rest of the season.
Not that I expect the writers to necessarily follow through with anything they started here because, from experience, I've noticed that the story in this franchise has a tendency to jump off the rails with reckless abandon.
The most promising thing about this opener was the lack of Noise. The Noise have always been a rubbish antagonist. They're not threatening, they're not interesting and they're not well designed. They've always been scrub tier enemies which our heroes can kill in the thousands without breaking a sweat. The writers appeared to realise, especially in season 2, that they needed to bring in antagonists who resembled the heroes so as to enable far more interesting battle sequences. Hopefully the Noise do reappear in this season like they did in season 2.
Finally, for UK-GAF, it appears that this show is set in a dark dystopian future where Boris Island is built in the middle of the Thames simply to host Idol concerts:
Who needs to use the Thames anyway. I mean, apart from boats.

Well he's definitely a good guy and the way he protected Miia was Husbando material for sure. If only he could go all the way.

I find it funny that every Symphogear starts the same way (Idol concert, bad shit happens) and Tsubasa never thinks to just not have an idol concert
Although I guess I can't blame people for wanting to hear Nana Mizuki's singing voice
well the first season had some pretty legendary QUALITY but s2 and s3 look pretty good

Not exactly what I was thinking or expecting, but it was funny and cute regardless, so yet another show to watch this summer. It's turning out to be a pretty good season after all that concern. Lots to watch..

Hey this looks beautiful! And it has actual animation, like, more than three frames per second unlike other series!
But at least in this episode I saw zero chemistry between the main couple, which can be an important flaw if this is a romance story. I mean, both are pretty and are similar-aged so I suppose they can be together but... meh? Let's see if it improves later.
The episode also falls into telling what it's about, not only showing it. For example we have an intro where the girl is taking herbs, not pretty flowers, it shows she has an interesting job as herbalist and it's appreciated by the community. When she is accosted, she takes bold action. That should be enough to indicate the viewer she is an independent woman, not the typical trophy girl from a fairy tale that exist to be rescued.
But in addition, it has the need to say it out of loud: "This is my own path, my own story. if I had a wish, I would keep writing my own path like this..." (which also it's a contrived inner dialog)
I don't need to be patronized that way, thank you very much.

Yeah, it fell completely flat to me. Everything that is dependent on the quality of but source material, the premise, characters and the jokes did absolutely nothing for me. Dogakobo 's pedigree and experience does manage to shine through but good execution seems to not be enough to elevate this story into something worthwhile. Don't think I will bother with it any further.

Those blu-ray ARE GOING TO SELL...
So , in the holy trinity of perverted anime ( to-loveru, dxd, testament) , it's to love-ru turn !
And damn , this season did start on some high gear.
The art style is kinda weird, i think i liked more the realistic style of the first darkness season, here is some weird lightning and weird effects..i do not like.

Either go all in on the vignette or go all in on a overarching plot line, these random last 30 seconds that build the white/black story line continue to always feel really out of place and kind of hurt overall really good episodes. I also wish we could get episodes focusing on other members of Libra besides Leonardo I get he's our PoV main character but this story feels like it wants to be an ensemble story and then doesn't.

I still need to buy this game, I've never played a SMT game, it's supposed to be good right? It's only digital in the EU and came very late which put me off.

SMT IV is a fun RPG. Starting with either SMT IV or SMT Nocturne is fine.

I spent $50 on it and I regret it. The world map just kills me. I wish the battle balancing was better because the system itself it pretty great.

The joke got old after one season, and most progress she made season 1 disappeared for season 2. It was disappointing as shit.
