How do you think it operates then? I think Forza Horizon 5 is slightly generic, but I can't see a scenario where it's not included over stuff like Resident Evil or Ratchet & Clank. It's too popular, too well-reviewed. The only real reason I can see is that there was too little time to generate enough votes of confidence.
Returnal not on the list is easy to see why, it's too hard for most.

When i think about goty at least for me its what game did the best job of bringing together story gameplay sound/music art direction difficulty / AI and most importantly IMMERSION. To me none of those games on the list today check on all those boxes at once like Returnal does, the music alone in this game is a whole vibe

when all roguelikes use the same formula is when things begin to become boring and stifling. Fourtunately returnal is a tps bullet hell with rogue features that it put its on flavor on, but it seems you still havent figured that out yet. This is why we have so many safe and cookie cut formula games because devs have to cater to the easymode hold my hand crowd or be terrified of doing or trying something different all together.
Not only all of the above but the developer historically known for smaller scale titles successfully launched a game as polished and the size of this, thats pretty hard to do i would think.

I checked it on xcloud and it’s pretty amazing. I want to buy it for PS5. Just waiting for a sale. Art direction is super elegant and level design is super creative stuff. It’s a really good game.Was Psychonauts 2 that good? I was bored to tears with the trailer and Jack Black singing (please fire whoever thought that was a good idea). I'll check it out

- Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous completely snubbed from Best RPG category is a total joke of decision, just because the game was PC only and had some depth in its RPG mechanics, with small review amount doesnt mean its okay to shove it aside like this in favor of a much worse RPG games like Scarlet Nexus. Once again TGA prove they only play and choose popular games.
- Cyberpunk 2077 missing a nomination in best narrative, while the other choices contain; Deathloop (a game that heavily relies on reading bland texts in an outdated Arkane style), It Takes Two (co-op platformer) and Life is Strange (didnt play yet but im skeptical) tells me its sus, I dont think Cyberpunk story is worse than them, it should have definitely got a nomination here.
- The Game Awards is bloated with (sorry for this) irrelevant awards like the esports (they have their own ceremony) and less important awards like debut indie, ar, and accessibility, but still doesnt feature awards for BEST GAMEPLAY, BEST LEVEL DESIGN, BEST COMBAT MECHANICS. why? those are important gaming aspects, why no award? no attention for them?
- Forza Horizon 5, highest MC score of the year, missing from GOTY, doesnt make sense, and shows the the jury has bias against Racing games and CRPGS
- Metroid Dread will not win, it has no nomination in Directing, which according to Geoff is the 2nd most important award. Deathloop or Psychonauts 2 or It Takes Two are going to win. My money is on Psychonauts 2.

Returnal had by far the best bosses of the year. It’s cutting edge stuff.

I mean sure but half of MS's nominations came from Deathloop alone. A game that you can't even play on their platform until this time next yearalthough Forza didn't fight for goty it was a great year for Ms / Xbox:

But that's my point, they didn't have time to formulate their opinion on Forza at all.
I don't know if the limit was today to deliver their nominations, but I think you are overrating how many of these guys actually play all the games.

Totally agree with this, games like Street Of Rage 4 and Muramasa gave me more joy than some AAAAAAA games. I also heard so many good things about Hades and can't wait to try it.
Games should not be judge about their Budget or level of production, but for the experience they bring for the most part, and other more important things than their budget level.

from their site: "Games eligible for The Game Awards this year must be available for public consumption on or before November 19, 2021" So yeah FH5 was eligible the press as a whole just didn't deem it worthy. People don't realize how this works. A Forza Horizon 5 review is from one person at each outlet. Each Outlet has to form their nominations as a group. So if the person who gave FH5 a 10/10 at that outlet wants it nominated but no one else at that outlet does then it's not going to go on their ballot as a nomination for GOTY.

Yeah, Ratchet has no business being on the list. Deathloop was also predictable, but was a very overrated game by the gaming press.

Yes, but the game and the developer belong to Ms/Xbox in the end that's what matters most. Like Kena, Genshin Impact doesn't own sony it just has a temporary exclusivity.

Probably because they started doing them back when games didn’t ship later in the year and kept it that way and the newer goty awards just followed their schedule.

I havent played Returnal but from what i heard the game has major issues/people complaining about lack of checkpoint/save places?
That could be the reason..perhaps...i dont know...

Sure but do we have anything of consequence releasing over the next month? Not really. Solar Ash is one of the only big games left for the year and that's still an indie game.

You can’t play the game on PC? Death loop is on PC gamepass what are you talking about. You can’t play the game on Xbox which will happen sometime next year.

Umm what are YOU talking about? Deathloop isn't on Gamepass on PC. It's on PC yes but you have to buy it.
