Polygon: There was one big snub in the Game Awards nominations

Seems like the writer is conflating studio pedigree with actual game quality:

More tellingly, though, The Veilguard did not score nominations for Best Narrative or Best Performance, two areas where BioWare games tend to excel, and which are less review-dependent. It also missed out in Best Role-Playing Game.

Bioware might be known for narrative-rich role-playing experiences but Dragon Age: The Veilguard has shockingly bad writing, middling voice work (outside Brian Bloom) and, excluding appearance, class and romance, little scope for traditional role-play.

That's why woke people is fucked up in their head. A DLC being nominated, a indie game that is very much a indie game nominated, a remake nominated... but the problem is the woke game not being nominated

Dragon Age: The Veilguard, a game engineered to succeed at The Game Awards, did not

The Game Awards’ voting jury snubbed BioWare’s latest game in a series of key categories where it would have been expected to compete. It secured just one nomination, for Innovation in Accessibility, which is decided by a specialist jury.

This is a surprise; as a narrative-led blockbuster in a famous series with slick production values, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is exactly the kind of game that tends to do well at The Game Awards. Its predecessor, Dragon Age: Inquisition, won Game of the Year in TGA’s inaugural year, 2014.

Granted, the reception to The Veilguard has been mixed — and with its Metacritic rating settling at 82, a nomination for Game of the Year seemed beyond its reach (even though that is one point higher than Black Myth: Wukong, which did make the cut).

In the end, though, there’s not much in this set of nominees to ruffle any feathers — outside of BioWare’s offices, that is.
PLEASE MY SIDES, I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE xD

It's not the TGA without someone somewhere being upset that something is being snubbed.

Let's ask the 1000xResist fans what it really feels like to feel snubbed.
I keep hearing so much about this game, how is it good? im intrigued, but i hope it isn't one of those visual novel anime games where it would be far better to be anime instead of a videogame.

Yeah, the Ode to Castlevania DLC for Vampire Survivors is a GOTY contender in its own right, and I don't understand why no one wants to talk about it.

...I mean, they did say DLC was eligible.

Lol, that's funny. I don't mean to be derogatory or anything. I really liked GOW, but much prefer RDR2.

I've had this theory for a while that GOW is a power fantasy for dads and might've given it a boost to the 30-/40-something critics whose votes hold weight in TGA, and I'm always looking for data points.
I am a dad and I preferred GoW! I was in my late 30s when it released…. I also may or may not admit to keep calling my son “Boy…” after playing it.
😉

Edit: Forgot to add that Failguard was not snubbed. It’s not a snub when it deservingly didn’t get nominated. Mid game plus the dumb wokiness made the game D tier (and they only due to good tech state of the release).

If the Keighley show's 'GOTY nominations' are any indication of the state of the gaming industry, we are fucked. I know there's a lot of Nerd Crew-esque getting excited for next product that goes on here, but fuck me, what a load of shit. The only game on that list that remotely deserves the title is Balatro. Erdtree is great, but it's DLC - and if we're adding DLC, the Vampire Survivors DLC should be there.

And Veilguard? You mean the one with the high fantasy characters who talk as though they're pansexual Redditors who are in therapy because of Drumpf? Don't make me laugh.

Absolute pile of shite.

The whole thing is a joke. Elden Ring DLC is really great, but it’s not a stand alone title and Elden Ring won already game of the year, so I can’t take the nominations seriously.
There are other great games, which would have deserved to be at least nominated:
- Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth
- Stellar Blade
- Silent Hill 2 Remake

But yeah, no journalist wants to bring up Stellar Blade as game of the year, because they are just scared that there will be backlash.
Same thing like Journalists never want to admit the forced woke agenda in some games.
