The PlayStation 5 Pro has been out for a month, what are your thoughts so far?

Lucky POE is out. Shame Indy isnt out on it as thats what ive settled on playing at the moment.

Would have been an effective 1-2 combo of the combined strength of MS and Sony.

MS sells more games in the critical launch window, Sony has a realistic game to flaunt the console.

Instead MS delayed it to cater to salty Xbros. They can't shake this culture of failure.

So far I only replayed Last of Us 2 and played some Gran Turmiso 7, which was nice. I don't have much other enhanced titles to play on it right now, but I bought it mainly for the games coming next year, especially GTA VI. Hardware wise I don't see many issues with it apart from WiFi. For some reason it won't connect to 5GHz band like 90% of time. Either way, I don't care about it too much as I use wired connection, but it's still weird. The coil whine is still there but it seems a bit less noisy than on the base model. However, the fan on the Pro seems a bit noisier to me, which makes sense with the increased power I guess. I still think the price is too high for what it offers, though.

What I don't get is when is Sony's next big showcase? Surely they would want to have one close to the Pro launch. It's already bad they didn't have a high-profile 1st party release to go with the Pro, but I was almost sure there would at least be a showcase before the year ends.

Waste of money so far but I don't care. Ready for GTA 6. Was hoping I could play PoE 2 on it but Sony isn't allowing shared mtx between PC and PS5 so screw that.

Thoroughly enjoying mine and it will only get better with time. People saying otherwise are delusional.

Partly true, with time it also gets closer to irrelevance, much like a PS4 Pro in a few years - at least in the sense of visuals, when PS6 launches and does it better, like the PS5 to a PS4 Pro.

While in a broad sense this is true let's be real, the gap between these consoles is getting smaller and smaller. PS4 Pro in 2024 is mainly let down by its hard drive and lack of 60fps, games like Ragnarok and HFW still look great on it and have great IQ.

Not a revolution but I don't regret my purchase.
Basically this. Part of me regretted it at first but I know I will want it down the line and I know that once more patches and games come out it will be a great purchase.

FF7R and GT7 are really the only games I out like real time into. Both are great. Obviously FF looks so much better then the regular version, but GT7 looks amazing and the VR modes looks way better then before.

All good here and having a great time with mine so far

Nice upgrade and some games are pretty great and others less so. But I don’t play every game, so I am mostly good picking and choosing 👍

But I’m enjoying my time with it and besides it was bought with the next few years in mind and to see how PSSR develops and improves 😎

Glad I saved some cash and also traded in my ps5. £700 straight for it, is a spicy meatball at the moment (for some games)

Great console, 2TB is nice, design is slim and compact with little noise, and it makes all my ps5 games better (some more than others).

No regrets. Everything going forward should see very big leaps from base versions

Sawyer sums up my feelings exactly, so I'll just quote him :messenger_grinning:.

Can't wait to see what the future holds for Pro-enhanced games.

Frankly, I expected WAY more, this is not the same as the PS4 to PS4 Pro situation.
People like to shit on the PS4 Pro due to that "lol Jaguar" CPU but, I hadn't played so many 60fps games on the 4 until the Pro came out, I still remember playing Shadow of the Colossus remake and GOW at 60fps, shit was transformative...

Enter the 5 Pro : most of the games are hit or miss when it comes to the patches and I'd argue that are more "miss" than actually "hit".
Games like Callisto protocol, Final fantasy 7 rebirth, GT7 and Stellar Blade do look good but then, you also have games that really needed a Pro boost and that isn't happening (AW2, SH2Re, Avatar) - Space marine 2 being the latest disappointment since now it runs pretty much the same as the game on the base PS5 (ie, badly).

This console, at least for now, isn't worth its asking price, PSSR will get better but for now, the console isn't worth it.

I wonder how many people who are praising this machine upgraded their ps4 or Xbox one. Because we are getting WAY less out of this machine right now than we did either the X or Pro. And it is way more expensive than those.

Worth it for GT7 alone I'm serious.
Then you have all the other Sony games that are on another level graphically and in image quality.
There are some good third party upgrades like RE2R, Harry potter is a nice surprise for me from what I played.
The other third party studios need to take their time before releasing a patch that downgrades the image quality but that's their problem. They can take a look at the graphical options and implementation in POE2 BETA for inspiration.

I don’t really replay games much and have only played Metaphor since I’ve gotten it. I noticed the game ran and looked a tad better after switching to the Pro but wasn’t really a big deal. Moving to Lies of P next.

I bought it more to play AAA games over the next 3-4 years in their optimized form, so any review at this point would be premature. Ask me one year from now after I’ve played Kingdom Come 2, Ghost, Desth Stranding 2 and GTA6.

Not getting that at all. I'm playing on the normal Pro performance mode with high framerate on. I had played half the game already before the Pro and it looks exactly the same except now playing around 80 fps and 4K image is so sharp, looks native. Maybe it's to do with your TV, I don't have an OLED. Can you post a screenshot or pic showing on your TV that shows the grey fog/off color? Maybe it's just the area in the game you playing? I dunno.
I’m thinking it might be that whole first area before you get on the train. I’m still very early.

I want to get a Pro but I am pretty happy with my PS5. I mainly use it for GT7 and I just got Rebirth on sale which doesn't look or run that bad to make me want to upgrade. Now if there is a Pro feature or enhancement to Death Stranding 2 I will cave and get one but with how well Death Stranding runs on the base PS5 I feel it won't be much of a gap.

It feels like what I thought the original PS5 would be. I like not having to choose between having nice graphics or good performance in games. But it does feel like a minor upgrade at this point. I think it will see more value as future games start to come out rather then relying on older, patched games. Also disappointing disc drives are no where to be found still.

I also just bought SB for the pro and started playing. Is it my setup or does the game have a weird gray fog over the whole image? No matter what I do with the settings I feel like the color just looks off.

Playing on a G4 Oled with HDR on.
Try turning HDR off and compare.

The improvements in performance seem minor to me, if someone had secretly replaced my old PS5 with a Pro I might not have noticed. But when I'm looking for them, they're appreciated. The next time someone says "we haven't hit the point of diminishing returns yet" my eyes are going to roll out of my head.

I'm pleased with my purchase. I've been on a good Sony exclusives run since it launched. Busy with Indy right now, but I'll get right back to PS5 backlog as soon as I'm done with it. I still hate the DualSense, though. I don't understand why the triggers have so much tension (and that's before the haptics). It sucks and makes my hands hurt when I have to hold the triggers down. Any recommendations for a different controller?

Great, but I don't recommend it to others. Most of my friends don't care about framerates.

PSSR is hit or miss but overall, it's fine.

I enjoy mine, it was a gift from my wife so I wasn't expecting it. It pairs well with my LG OLED and the games I play all seem to run better!

win so far, and more games will start to utilize it too.

its definitely not a must have

I’m satisfied.

Playing GAF favorite game, Veilguard, on performance mode and the IQ is a lot better than in the base PS5.

Only thing I don’t like is that it’s noisier.

It's ok. Devs really need to think before slapping pssr on in their games. Sometimes it's good sometimes it's not.

My main dissapoint is the noise level. Not bad as PS4 but higher then my launch ps5 and noticeable.

Sadly I haven't used it as much as I would have liked.

But it's a great machine. Fidelity mode @ 60 fps like they said, and that's what I wanted.

I'm very far in now, I don't recall but maybe check some gameplay on YouTube of the same area you are experiencing this to compare if it looks the same or similar?
Played a couple more hours today. That first area is definitely the worst, so far. But overall I feel like the HDR and overall color grading is very poor in this game. Constantly feels like aggressive lens flare and/or fog all over the screen.

just buy the digital version and build up your library for all digital PS6 lol :messenger_smirking:
I finally got one today!! 🥳
I bought a few digital games during black friday sale on PSN but I still prefer physical games.
If next gen is fully digital I will wait and buy most of my games on sale instead of day one purchase.

PS5pro is a good option if you cant afford a high end PC, but want somewhat decent image quality on 4K TV at 60fps. However, I see no point in buying the PS5Pro if someone already has a base PS5 and PC.

As far as games go yes the Pro has been great with TLOU part 1, Dying Light 2, and others that have taken advantage of the pro. What I really want to know is how other people's fan sound. If you have a silent fan as some have claimed theirs are, please show proof or a video. While mine isn't loud as far as coil whine, my fan no matter what game will ramp up as soon as you start it. It's not to a super loud sound as my cabinet door will block most of the noise (it's an open back cabinet so there's plenty of air flow) but definitely louder than my launch PS5. I already know of the 2 fan variants FOXCONN and Delta. For those of you who don't know which one you have, if you remove the plate that the extra SSD slot is you'll see the fan model. If it's PVB it's FOXCONN and supposedly quieter. If it's KSB it's Delta and generally the louder fan. I currently have the Delta one and have ordered a FOXCONN one to see if there truly is a big difference but again, if anyone really does have a "silent" console I'd love to see it.
