Titanfall Review Thread

Can someone answer me this? how can you review an online game if it's not in the wild for at least a week? To review it otherwise is dishonest.

They usually play under ideal conditions it in controlled environments on local servers or perhaps the official servers where they're the only ones accessing it.

It's not a true representation of real life conditions though. No matter how a "reviewer" tries to spin it. To many people accessing a server can crash it or cause many issues to appear. One just has to look at Battlefield 4 and SimCity for very recent examples. That always happens. It's even more of an issue for pure online only games. This is why MMORPGs aren't and shouldn't reviewed before they launched and why beta impressions can only take you so far. To have a "review" out and not a running "impressions" article is extremely dishonest. It is here as well. What these people are playing is not the same thing normal customers will be playing tomorrow and for the rest of the week.

i didnt expect online only to review so well, must be pretty good

but i dont plan on reading any. gotta keep things fresh. i hate going into a game with reviewers thoughts in my mind feels gross, always check em out after a week or so at least

Titanfall lives up to all the expectations established when it was first revealed, in a way that so few games are able ever to accomplish, and represents nothing short of first-person shooter multiplayer taken to new heights.

An evolution of the core Call of Duty concepts rather than a revolution for multiplayer shooters as a whole, Titanfall feels, in a way, like a hyper-budgeted mod that will only truly see its aims realised in the inevitable sequel.

did they play the same game lol

Geez, I wonder how it got a 10/10 from them!
I really really wish sites were legally required to (or at least would bother at all) to disclaimer this kind of stuff. This is a totally awesome/depressing example of why people are cynical about cash influencing review scores. Not that they're not allowed to score it a 10/10 but a least be a little more subtle, christ.

EGM:

Like most successful license-based games, Aliens: Colonial Marines is much more than a loving homage; it serves as one of the most robust story-driven co-op experiences to date. The concept definitely has room to grow, but as maiden voyages go, Colonial Marines is a clear winner.

Any news about 360 version is good news. It exists? Any idea what framerate is going to have?

I was referring to his comment about them pushing the XB1 version just above 720p just so they could say it wasn't 720p. Respawn just said they're eventually going to patch the game to run at 900p or 1080p.

Well that's what you would hope... but then again... SimCity and Battlefield 4.

I don't remember BF4 having any major server issues, and Sim City isn't a bad game because of the servers. I'd imagine the TF servers have been up for a while for reviewing, people were playing on them with modified exe.

If you don't play the game it was meant to be played, it's easy to come to the latter conclusion.

Seems like the reviews a pretty good game would get.

Somebody can't like a thing more than I think they should like a thing. IT'S NOT ALLOWED!

Uhm, you should perhaps be more critical as well and think to yourself when does a game ever really get a 10, let alone blindly accepting it. The 9s I can understand, but 10?

oh lawd you missed out then

I put about 12 hours into it over the weekend. The servers have been up long enough these past couple days for them to play it long enough to give it an accurate review.

The severs have been up with approximately 1/1,000th of the player population they'll have starting tomorrow. That's why they're waiting to review.

You really believe that on site advertising has any impact on the score a journalist, who doesn't get paid based on those advertisement, gives a game?

Well that's what you would hope... but then again... SimCity and Battlefield 4.

EA =/= Microsoft. EA doesn't have the resources to spin up MP servers on demand. Microsoft does.

I expect that this launch will go smoothly because of Azure.

Edit: This is an opportunity for Microsoft to earn more revenue from publishers. Smooth launches of big games will encourage publishers to use Azure for all their games, no matter the platform. They have an incentive to make it smooth.

Sites get paid for advertisements, no doubt.

It's a classic conflict of interest. Simple as that.
I'm sure there's very little shady shit going on these days, but I do still remember Gerstmann getting the boot for scoring K&L too low.

Was expecting more 10/10 than what I see considering many people thought this was the second coming in shooters. But the 9s are very good as well considering this is a new IP.

I thought I was commenting in a discussion regarding possible server issues or believability regarding the critics actually playing the game beyond the demos available at press events. Of course I understand why some critics are waiting a couple days. It was just about impossible to find a lobby for anything beyond Attrition, and I imagine that's going to be the case for those playing with VPNs right now.
