To see Conan or Captain America?

To see either Conan or Captain America? Captain America is supossed to be good, and he kicks the ass of Nazis. However, there is just something fun about an overly violent boob filled movie that is apparently horrendous. For added fun the wife is going to see it with me. Any advice GAF?

Captain America is completely unremarkable. Its just there. Watching it keeps you occupied for two hours but I've had more enriching conversations with my dog. It does nothing that other films haven't done better. Its not a bad film, just a tremendously bland one.

Conan's reputation is beginning to speak for itself.

I recommend you stay in and watch a good movie on DVD. The King's Speech is pretty brilliant, as is Frost/Nixon, The Madness of King George and Peter Sellers masterpiece "Being There".

Watch one of those instead. That's what I think you should do.

I just saw Captain America last night and it was very enjoyable. Kind of a throwback to that '80s "hard PG" action-adventure vibe.

The action is so-so but it has its moments, and overall the movie just sells itself really well.

At this point you should watch Conan, Captain America has beeen getting tons of praise and has a decent trailer which will create expectations of what is esentially one of the blandest and unfocused movie of the year.

Meanwhile you will expecting COnan to suck and might actually enjoy it.

That's not a Conan movie.

Just like this isn't a Godzilla movie.
I agree, remakes can be shit. Like that new Conan movie.
Also, 1982 Conan soundtrack > 2011 Conan soundtrack.

Let's just agree to disagree...

The Conan movie out now isn't a remake. It's the first Conan movie made.

Conan can't be as dull and boring as Captain America.

Yeah I'd agree with that. I've not seen Conan but even if its a shitacular streak of violent excrement, at least it will be more memorable that Captain America was.

Given the choice of watching a truly terrible film, or a completely bland forgettable one, I'd probably pick the former.

Conan is getting bad feedback?

Awww.... why can't Hollywood get anything right anymore? It's a big dude with a sword cutting down anyone who gets in his way, how could they get it wrong?

They didn't get it wrong. They got it right. Don't listen to nostalgia-drunk fanboys who mistook a shitty 80's sword & sorcery movie with a great soundtrack for a Conan movie.

Wife and I are going to see Conan, I'm in the mood for mindless violence and boobery. For the record I've read some of the original stories, Savage Sword, the new comics, and seen the original Arnold movie. I doubt that it will make a huge difference for me other than appreciating them using the source material more. Than again I liked the 1982 one. the worst thing will be the score, for I know it can't match Basil. I'd think less of it if they didn't use the same logo as the original.

Speaking of source material which stories does this draw from?

Ill save Cap for another day.

I haven't seen Conan but Captain America is Grade F garbage. If you like that movie you should reconsider all the choices you've made during the course of your life.

You're missing the best movie of the summer.
Some sense from this man at last.

But anyway, just go see whatever you feel like once you get there and let us know how you liked it when you get back.

I haven't seen it yet. But my hype levels for it have been rising exponentially as of late.

I've seen both Conan and Captain. From seeing your posts around here if you had to choose I think you would enjoy Conan much more.

It's set some time after Tower of the Elephant.

Yeah, well it's not that I wouldn't enjoy Cap I'm just not in the mood for a slower movie with a lot of character development today. I still plan to see Cap just another day.

It's after Conan's time on the Black Coast with the pirate crew, but before he takes the throne. Beyond that, the story is original.

He has a pirate crew in the movie which looks suspiciously like the remains of Belit's crew from Queen of the Black Coast.

They do namecheck some of his previous escapades, though.
