[VideoCardz] Retailer confirms Radeon RX 9070 “MSRP” only applies to first shipments, price set to increase later

The suggested retail price AMD announced last month isn’t expected to be honored by board partners for too long. According to some retailers, only a limited number of cards will sell at MSRP, then the price will increase depending on the board partner prices or retailer’s margins.

Swedish retail chain Inet.se explains how this works for Radeon RX 9070 cards. Apparently, MSRP will be respected only for the first shipments of cards, presumably those which are already in the warehouse. Further shipments will have different prices. The retailer is bringing an example of PowerColor cards, whose Reaper series will indeed launch at MSRP, but only for a limited number of cards. The company has already received a second shipment of these cards, which were already listed at a higher price.

We have now learned how the recommended prices, also known as MSRP prices, work for the launch of the AMD Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT. We are not allowed to say exact prices ahead of the release, but simply put, they will apply to a limited number of cards.
The prices only apply to the first shipment of each model.
For Sapphire and ASUS it will be just as usual, we have only received one shipment and you can buy it until it runs out, but with PowerColor it will be different.
Our second shipment from PowerColor is already waiting, and we cannot offer it at MSRP prices. This means that we will first sell the Reaper models at MSRP prices and the stock balance will tick down as usual until the first shipment is sold out. Then, with a certain delay, the stock will be replenished with new cards and we will then release the Reaper cards for order again – although not at MSRP prices.
If you receive an order with MSRP price even though the cards are sold out, we will of course give you that price, but unfortunately we have no way of continuing to sell cards at MSRP price after the first deliveries are sold out

Cheeks Spread for Digital Only Future
Tons of availability.

But what comes after will be primarily down to the tarrif shenanigans.
Yeah I doubt AMD and partners planned it this way, but stockpiling cards at point of sale before the tariffs hit should pay off well for them.

I don’t think the card in huge demand or even popular here in Canada. Following the stock availability, there are many cards available at Canada Computers that has not been sold.

Kinda sucks a bit and I hope I m wrong because I like fsr 4 and what amd did this gen

These rumors came from a Swedish retailer and OCUK. This price increase has nothing to do with tariffs in the US.

I’m guessing AMD knew they would get shitty reviews + gamer sentiment if they launched this thing at $750.

I got an order through at Newegg for Powercolor Reaper within the first minute, they confirmed it a few minutes later with a shipping date of 3/11, then 5min. later they cancelled it due to insufficient stock. (Newegg's website order menu)

Bestbuy's XFX msrp model was sold out within 1sec.(clicked first second, into queue, sold out by 30sec.).

Total paper launch.

I tried to find a PowerColor Reaper 9070 XT at BB, New Egg, and BHPhoto. The only place that had it was New Egg and it's sold out already..😭

It was only one of two that would fit my current Mid tower build without having to buy a new case or new power supply. The other card was a Sapphire Pure 9070 XT and it's sold out too.

Looks like either scalpers won or it's a paper launch. What a scam.

So what you're saying is if I wasn't lucky enough to secure a 9070XT the moment they went live here in the UK then I'll be expected to pay an unknown amount extra to get the same product?

These tech companies can fuck themselves. The MSRP model went out of stock here almost instantly and I'm not paying another £150-300 more for the same fucking product but with some flashy lights or magnetic fans.

Maybe I'll have better luck next gen... 🤣

Yep. GPU launches this year are lol worthy when it comes to MSRP =/= reality.

AMD LIED massively, just like Nvidia. And yet, they most likely will get away with it...
