no, steam doesn't notify you if dlc is on sale unless you have particular dlc wishlisted, but as it is a new game, it won't have discounts any time soon and I'll check at winter sale myself.
Did any of those OELVNs that were inspired by Katawa Shoujo that kept popping up several years ago ever come to fruition? Or did they all peter out during development?
Nekone was alright.
You could argue that those 2 are fan service characters BUT they aren't really many visual scenes with them that could count as fanservice.
*poke *poke.
They showed Sol & Mil through out the credits and Mil dying two years later, I was like shit....I know it's cheap to have a person be sick and give them 'x' amount of time to live to bring feels but damn
A bit disappointing we are getting a prequel so we won't find out what's happening with Ritonia anytime soon.
you have hope that they can fix the situation. There was always a moment in my mind that they would stand up and find a way to be better. I was so intrested in her dreams and hopes myself that i just said "FUCK IT" when i realised , like the heroine , that it was already too late
Then the feels came FULL FORCE . It's easy to do , but i didn't realise that fault would go this route
since millestone one ended on a happy note and full of hope , aside from that cliffanger.
Don't want to derail the thread so please bear with me for just a few sec. If anyone has a spare full humble sekai bundle I would be interested to purchase it.
Basically I just failed a will save on a product after the offer expired :/
To be clear, there was too much shit and I needed the cash but now I'm thinking a little late that it was globally a nice bundle.
does every Higurashi chapter start this slow? I liked the first one when it got going but it took half the game to get there and the second seems to be more of the same in that regard
dunno if I can take going through that process as many times as this thing has chapters
I only have Rea's route left in Dies Irae and if I have one complaint with the VN, it's that the end of every route feels like Return of the King movie ending. The story flirts a lot with anti-climax despite having a bunch of events that on their own are impressive.

Watanagashi really passes the mark with the SoL elements, some of which are also kind of bad. But the following chapter understands the lesson and dramatically improves the pacing, with ch.3 having just a few (better) SoL scenes and a ton of mistery content.
One thing I'm loving about my late Higu reading (having watched the anime) is that you can definitely see Ryu improving chapter after chapter in many aspects, one of which is indeed the balance between scenes and the quality of the SoL moments.
30 hours to read through a single Dies Irae route.
It's shaping up to be even longer than Root Double or Umineko.
(I kind of wish it was a tad shorter. My 52 games per year progress am cry - especially considering Muv-Luv Alt is supposed to come out this year as well)...

Isn't Umineko longer than 120 hours? Or am I mistaken? Always thought it was somewhere between 120 and 150.
...In my opinion (which people 99% disagree with), the length should be the least of your concerns with Muv Luv, it's incredibly underwhelming for such a hyped-up VN.
I try to stay away from any VN over 100 hours long. I only pulled off playing the first four chapters of Umineko back in the day because I was a student with lots of free time.

YU-NO took me dozens and dozens of hours to get through, but I think a decent chunk of that was occupied by me butting heads with a weird save+quit glitch. Fate/ stay night is also super duper long.
I'm not really feeling Root Before yet... Honestly, this scenario feels even more generic than After, and the player's knowledge of what ends up happening on the day of the incident is constantly at odds with how the MC keeps forgetting about the visions and omens he receives. Every single time the character says his memory's hazy or something, and then just goes on with his life as if nothing had happened.
That's on top of the "omg you can choose how your character interacts with others" system being a cop out because I already know I'm supposed to constantly flatter people like a pathological liar before the latter quarter of the game, where all hell is bound to break loose and people start dropping like flies even faster if they don't trust you... or something.

Yeah, sounds way too long for me. Going by the first hour or two - maybe they'd only be 10 hours if they cut some of the bloat by, for example, not saying the same goddamn things again and again.
I'm still interested in it, but it was so fucking tedious to actually read that I think I'll just check the anime when it's out.
Long VNs are good, but only as far as you can get something in return quite often. Dies for now (Kei route) fails at that, and many are saying things like the main chara not developing at all in four routes...
I like its lexicon, but the writing style is not just what words you use but mostly how you use them, and people like NisioisiN are much better at diluted dialogues than Dies author looks to be.
That's what I loved of Umineko, yes it's loooong (took me 7 months, no rush) but even chapters like 2 and 4 keep developing characters, ideas, themes, it gives you way more (that's the point of it really) than simply a nice story with some twists. The so loved Fata Morgana did that too.
That's what most novels fail, or at least are not good at imho, they keep your attention by adding mystery after mystery but the inevitable slow moments seem to be here just because they wanted to add real tastes but don't know how. Muv Luv Extra is the pinnacle of that kind of writing, with alternate heroines getting paradoxically worse in their routes (
the whole love with a Doctor in Kei route.............
), still taking 30h.
Sometimes I hope that more novels choose the Saya no Uta route, if you just want to write some strange shit go ahead and don't bother with anything else, it's not like you can't portrait characters or moral questions that way.
It was so bad that having to force myself through Extra and then being disappointed by Alternative (Unlimited was decent) almost made me give up on VNs. I think YU-NO was the game that took me back.
I can't stand moe/harem VNs, but still I found MuvLuv Extra enjoyable.
I managed to find amusement out if its comedy (Initial D parody was the best). I liked Sumika-MC's dynamic. He probably beat her up the same amount as she did him. This kind of trop is horribly overdone in anime, but since it was done in both directions I found it amusing. Side routes were truly abhorrent though. But at least Sumika/Meiya's were ok, 6-7/10 overall.
MLA still remains in my top 5 with Majikoi, Higurashi, F/SN and Kara no Shoujo series.

I've completed 2 routes now (along with 3 of the side stories as well) and am currently at 50 hours.
And it's a shame almost? I'm certainly enjoying Dies Irae but it's really, quite simply, too damn long - plus it seems like there is a quite some retreading of content for going through the different routes.
I actually feel like I need a break from it now for a while and play some other stuff before doing the last 2 routes.
Well I could believe that Dies Irae is one of them from where I am just now. From what I've seen it seems like the last route basically requires you to go through the entire game again.
The common route is 90% the same no matter what, the reason you restart for the Rea route is that it requires a few particular choices not necessarily related to Rea, I think, cause a good chunk of Rea's route
is actually the Rusalka route
. You're still skipping through most of the common route and the skip speed is ultra fast. Actual playtime for Dies should be somewhere around 60 hours if you're the type to let all the voices play, 50-55 hours if you aren't.

Dies Irae took me about 60 hours to play all the routes, yeah. If anything it's actually a bit shorter than Fate. And since the length is divided into 4 routes instead of 3 it moves at a faster pace as well
Are you not using the skip function? Because if you are, Dies Irae has very little repeated content. It isn't Demonbane. It's actually refreshing how Dies Irae breezes through stuff covered in earlier routes and doesn't repeat itself. That's a nice benefit of a structured route order.
Or are you counting idle time that Steam's counter includes? I know that I can never trust Steam's hour number for visual novels because I leave them running for long stretches that I am not reading.
Denpasoft summer sale !
Will I finally finish a VN ? Will I be able to once and for all settle the eternal question 'porn or no porn in my VN' ?
...
...doubtful.
