I agree with the menu music being great. Sets the tone for the game real well.
A few hours into the game now and I want to say, Fuck Okuhiko. Dude is such a dick. I thought they were going for the lovable scamp trope when they first introed him, but turns out he's just super skeevy around all the girls and just generally unpleasant.
Plot twists, appealing art, good soundtrack and appropriate pacing.
Interesting story/premise, well-written characters and a memorable sound track. Probably in that order. Good art would be neat, too. Another nice thing would be intelligently built routes that don't require you to replay most of the game just to see a slightly different ending.
Pretty much. Good OST isn't completely necessary, but it's a bonus. Plot twists are pretty much the most important thing for me. VNs are practically books and I've yet to play a VN that was just so pleasant to read, it didn't need a crazy plot to keep it interesting. Especially since VNs tend to be so goddamn long.
e: and tolerable characters lol. i'm not gonna say good or well-written characters cause many of the usual sorts of characters you see in vns are pretty terrible.

I don't have any strict requirements. It just needs to tell an entertaining story. I certainly don't need plot twists.
Uhhh..., you know the skip function exists for a reason, right? Set it to skip only read, and it automatically stops when you hit new text.
Saves hours and hours.

Huh, now that I think about it, this is a pretty tough one. I think my #1 thing is interesting characters. Good plot with shitty characters is no fun for anyone, and as long as the a/v aren't offensively bad then I can put up wiyh just about anything.
Sure, but still. This gets especially confusing when there are multiple routes and they all have only slight differences during most of the game and you start confusing what happened in which route and so on. I would much rather have unique routes, even if that means that there are only two or three.
I didn't know where to say it but since it's going to be related to a visual novel and the other thread is closed I will say it here if you don't mind, the 4infinity teaser has changed to 0301 so the theory about it changing every week and being related to the digital root seems the right one. So I hope that zero escape 3 is coming.
You will love one of the later routes :^)
I love the soundtrack personally. It has the best calm type of tunes of the infinity games imo. With just the right amount of melancholy

Yeah, I noticed the change two hours ago, but there's a likelihood it changed at around 3:00 PM EDT. I'm not as pessimistic concerning the prospect of what it might be anymore.
0302 changed to 0301. Might seem pretty significant for us following it, but it's still pretty much nothing of substance, for now.

Just saw this an hour ago and bought it after checking out their site. Looks really amateur-friendly, which is great, because I'd rather not code.
Aw yes, 0301! Now we finally have something to look forward to instead of just speculating what to look forward too!
Also, I know there really isn't much to discuss anymore, but try to keep the spam spam at a minimal okay, we really don't want this thread to get locked too. I mean, even though this IS a community thread and going OT isn't frown upon as much, it's still the VN thread and not the Zero Escape thread. So please no elevators D:

I'm going to second this. I get that a lot of you really like the Zero Escape games, but there are threads about the announcement/site or whatever it is that are probably better suited.
You could talk to some mods as well, ZE seems big enough around here that it maybe warrants a community thread itself. I haven't actually played any of the games yet (they're 20+ games back in the backlog) so I won't be involved.
And yes, I will play them. And no, nothing you can say or do will convinced me to move them in front of the games I already own and need to finish.

The teaser site threads were locked, and I asked about a mod about a ZE Community Thread, and they said I should wait until after the teaser does/does not pan out.

Thanks for being so inviting, but like you said, there isn't much to discuss anymore. Some of us got hyped yesterday because we finally found a theory that made a lot of sense and most of us were at the point were we would have given up on Friday either way (one week since last update). The Hype-Stairlift started as an inside joke that ballooned a bit when people were getting their hopes up again. And hey, we correctly predicted the hour when the next change would happen one day in advance.
Now we have a good idea of how this teaser works and a rough timeframe for when the next update will hit and when this will all be over. That's all most of us were looking for from the beginning.
This is my last post on the subject until something changes, time to go into "Hypernation Mode"
Have you tried Kamaitachi no Yoru / Banshee's last Cry yet? (available on iOS). It's a classic VN and the story is pretty good.
edit: There's also 999 (iOS or DS), I hear it's supposed to be quite good

For a good murder mystery i would recommend Kara no Shoujo and Cartagra (same universe). Very good murder mysteries with some more in depth topics being discussed. Cartagra comes before Kara no Shoujo and there are some reocurring characters, but Kara no Shoujo does everything Cartagra does, just way better. So if you're interested you could check the series out. I would personally recommend just playing Kara no Shoujo first and then, if you're interested, play Cartagra afterwards.

Not a bad idea really. Those threads were turning crazy, it was even driving me nuts. I decided to back out and wait for actual news.
As for mystery, I second Higurashi and highly recommend Umineko. It drops the ball a little on having a realistic solution to the mysteries, but they'll sure make you think.

I don't see the harm in it personally, especially now that it seems some level of a pattern has been discovered.
I don't blame people for getting wound up, I feel the same. And I think having a place to be able to express that is helpful, as long as people aren't going overboard.

You know what, now that I think about it Zero Escape 3 somehow being Infinity 4 would somewhat match this comment that was made last year: "Its looking like 2015 will be the year where everything Ive built up over the years will come together and be let out into the world in one fell swoop." I still highly doubt it though, but could you imagine?
As for the timer, I'm not sold on the digital root theory. I think it's going to end up being 3 months and 1 week. And I must say.....getting one step closer to figuring out how it counts down today has brought my hype level way back up since I was starting to get worried. I really can't wait to see what the first set of numbers do soon so we can finally know for sure how it fully works. So until we have a specific date locked in.....I guess we should all try and put the teaser at the back of our minds.

I'm not even sure what the point of bringing the Infinity series into ZE3 would be. It certainly makes little financial sense to tie them together, especially if the game is aimed at the West, where the Infinity Series only exists through fan translations and an ancient release that can't even be bought anymore.
I'm sure that this isn't going to last for three months, it will stop counting or in 0300 or 0298 or so. And the infinity could only be the name as someone said, instead of virtue last reward, zero escape 4 infinity.Also if the timer was 1 number down every week(which seems to be the pattern) that would mean 301 weeks which is impossible
