Warner Bros. Games is shutting down Monolith Productions, Player First Games, WB San Diego. Wonder Woman game has been cancelled

Warner Bros. Games statement provided to Kotaku over email:

We have had to make some very difficult decisions to structure our development studios and investments around building the best games possible with our key franchises -– Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones. After careful consideration, we are closing three of our development studios – Monolith Productions, Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. This is a strategic change in direction and not a reflection of these teams or the talent that consists within them.
The development of Monolith’s Wonder Woman videogame will not move forward. Our hope was to give players and fans the highest quality experience possible for the iconic character, and unfortunately this is no longer possible within our strategic priorities. This is another tough decision, as we recognize Monolith’s storied history of delivering epic fan experiences through amazing games. We greatly admire the passion of the three teams and thank every employee for their contributions. As difficult as today is, we remain focused on and excited about getting back to producing high-quality games for our passionate fans and developed by our world class studios and getting our Games business back to profitability and growth in 2025 and beyond.

WB got greedy and made bad business decisions.

The MultiVersus community can cope and blame the character choices but the game simply wasn't fun to stick around and play. I log in and do the daily BP challenges then log out. Also had really bad approach towards micro transactions and how you unlock characters. They did FINALLY fix the game but it's too late.

Hopefully with James Gunn taking control on DC moving forward they can actually pose a threat. Not sure if the video game market will be of much interest to them anymore like how Disney dropped out and just loans out IPs.

San Diego was just a support studio, right?
That Nemesis system patent is gonna go unused until it expires huh?
To be fair, anyone can make their own version of it.

They are closing Monolith? Why? They made some cool games like Shogo and Condemned and some real bangers like FEAR and NOLF. The fuck?
The last FEAR game was 15 years ago. The last of the LoTR games was almost 10 years ago. Monolith had unfortunately been on life support for ages at this point.

So much self own in this. Multiversus had 2 chances and they fumbled both.

FOR FUCK'S SAKE. Monolith Productions is a big loss...

No One Lives Forever 1 & 2, Blood, Tron 2.0 (I really like this game), Fear 1 & 2, Shogo: Mobile Armor Division, Condemned, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor & Shadow of War...

Their games were always solid to really good. Warner Bros. are absolute retards for really mismanaging all of their studios.

Wait is this true? I thought its a meme first. RIP monolith i guess, but its probably for the best. 5 years and we didnt see a glimpse of their next game. All these studios just wasting fucking money and scratching their balls while smaller studios are releasing amazing titles with a lot smaller budget

It is what it is. I wasn't going to buy WW for $70 I can tell you that.
Your money, but it would've been cool.

American military + DC-fied Greek myth... Nemesis System actually makes a surprising amount of sense with the Lasso of Truth - it has telepathic and mind control-type abilities.

$30, for sure. $70, probably not. I wasn't into any of the story in Shadow of Mordor either. If they made a competent beat-em-up I would have picked it up eventually.

I am actually pretty interested in the Black Panther game, ironically.
