Holy shit

Poor Monolith.

And wow, what asinine management for Player First Games. They just bought them, shut down their only game and then immediately closed the studio. Saying this as a big Multiversus fan this was perhaps the most idiotic move they made in this string of awful decisions

I mentioned in the other thread about WW that it is so confusing they couldnt pull this together considering in 2017 they made a huge, AAA, high production value game with advanced technology and lots of content. Something seriously went wrong with this studio between then and now.

Monolith was a shell of what they used to be when they made banger after banger. One of my favorite studios for a while

The talent likely left a long time ago.

Full statement:
We have had to make some very difficult decisions to structure our development studios and investments around building the best games possible with our key franchises -– Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC and Game of Thrones. After careful consideration, we are closing three of our development studios – Monolith Productions, Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games San Diego. This is a strategic change in direction and not a reflection of these teams or the talent that consists within them.
The development of Monolith’s Wonder Woman videogame will not move forward. Our hope was to give players and fans the highest quality experience possible for the iconic character, and unfortunately this is no longer possible within our strategic priorities. This is another tough decision, as we recognize Monolith’s storied history of delivering epic fan experiences through amazing games. We greatly admire the passion of the three teams and thank every employee for their contributions. As difficult as today is, we remain focused on and excited about getting back to producing high-quality games for our passionate fans and developed by our world class studios and getting our Games business back to profitability and growth in 2025 and beyond.

How long has it been since any of those released a worthwhile game?

If anything it's surprising that they've got funded without producing anything for so long.

Rip Nemesis system.
This stings pretty bad, there was so much potential in that, but they didn't do more with it. I hate that they copyrighted it. That kind of tech was a LOT of fun and had tons of potential.

Where are the poster who told me everyone was excited about that Wonder Woman game? lmao
There was one? I felt the majority were just hyped about the Nemesis System being used again. I know that's what I was looking forward to. I was genuinely shocked Wonder Woman was getting her own game. Something like that should've happened when the first movie came out. I feel like they lost a lot of steam waiting to do when they did.

Yep. Now it's basically just going to be sat on until it expires in 2035. Fuck Warner Bros. I hope their entire gaming division goes under.

Wonder Woman cancelled?
Dude, what the fuck is happening in the game industry? Is this because of the Suicide Crap? Lol
This is pure speculation, so in other words, tales from my rectum.

But, as bad as MCU/Marvel has been lately, it's still not quite as bad as DC? So maybe (very much maybe, see above), it's due to DC franchises not doing so great in general lately.

(and no, a single movie with an emo Batty and a spin-off series with a delightful Penguin doesn't cut it)

How could microsoft do this?

The reality of working in practically every industry is that layoff occur for companies to make larger profit. The new landscape in the VG industry is just the next one to face the same thing but in a larger scale.

Well, that tells with numbers the audience don't exist and they suggest acquiring new talents for new games to continue their relevance in the industry. It's tech, devs after 15 to 20 years of their career will refuse to modernizing their skills. Laziness has nothing to do with it.

I got several push back saying the game was doomed from the start in another thread, welp

Rest in peace to an absolute videogame legend. Around since 1997, making banger after banger. Incredible track record, truly one of the greatest developers.

I hope the gods will punish WB Games for this.

If there is a God above, the licensing mess that is the NOLF franchise will be sorted and we'll finally get a GoG release.

Sounds like WB just wants quick slop they can sell skins in.
