Where does Sony fit in todays landscape???

With Switch 2s reveal and MS's rumored PC steam handheld giving gamers access to Gamepass and Sony 1st through steam, where does this leave Sony?

Why buy PS when their games can be had on Steam along with Gamepass? Nintendo has always been fine on their own. What sets Sony apart from their competitors?

Will gamers flock to the 3 in 1 Xbox pc hybrid? 3 in1 meaning Gamepass, steam and through steam Sony.

I don't have the answer but it'll interesting to see how things unfold.

They are all doing their own thing. No one is "flocking" to anything new. PC/Xbox gamers will have a choice between getting a general purpose PC or an Xbox hybrid. And depending on how that choice goes, Xbox will either survive as a hardware brand or become software + gamepass only. That's it. The only question then is if gamepass survives another generation with it still not being profitable. Literally nothing changes for Sony or Nintendo.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Why buy PS
A lot of people have lots of digital games on the PS accounts and probably don't want to say goodbye to that.

Also, by that logic anyone and everyone would be playing on PC, but some people prefer the simplicity of a console.

I think there's enough market for PC, Nintendo and Sony. They all offer different experiences.

Biggest console distribution system, worldwide recognised brand, affordable- ish consoles.

They have a lot going for them.

All systems are going to become safe, iterative in future. They will keep trucking along.

How is common sense delusional? I'm looking for value. One console/handheld offers several storefronts, the other does not. Price being equal, who would willingly limit their options?

The answer: fanboys

It’s delusional to ask “where does this 80M selling console in just 4 years with GTA6 looming on the horizon and yet to receive a price cut fit into the current market”

Ask yourself just how dumb this question is

Despite the many frustrating and polarizing decision of Sony, for me, the PS5 is still my primary console. Nintendo switch 2 might be my secondary console. I don't count PC since its my basic utility at home.

Do you see the PS5 struggling because of this? Is anything going to change because a new more expensive Switch is coming out, and new more expensive hybrid "Xbox"?

What time is it?
People have digital libraries and the vast majority of Sony's good games aren't on Steam. Sony's position is as secure as ever as the Xbox hasn't been competition for the past two generations and they still offer a price friendly entry into the latest big budget games.

  1. The PS5 is the default multi-plat console with a large user-base.
  2. The PS5 Pro is the most powerful console
  3. They push AAA exclusives that sell, and look to have dropped the service-based multiplayer all-in
  4. It's completely up in the air if Microsoft can execute their console form factor PC well enough.
  5. They're licensing out older IP to other devs.
  6. Sony I would hard bet will release a handheld next-gen, and unless they're dead in the head push the Playstation back catalog to run on it.
  7. They'll release at least another remaster of The Last of Us just to spite Todd Howard.

People willingly limit their options all the time by not going to PC gaming. You seem to be under the impression that everyone needs a million games to play every single day but the vast majority of the market doesn't play games that way.

As far as value well Xbox has had the best value since this gen has started and the market has rejected them as well.

It leaves them in a commanding lead with the potential to take some of Nintendo's audience if they play their handheld cards right.

Pretty much this. They have it all lay down to them.

If they decided to take advantage of that, well that's a different matter.

Since this is about handhelds, Playstation is in a good position.

While some people write it off, because 'PC handheld', Portal doesn't sufferfrom issues like this:

There is also very little reason why Portal wouldn't automatically be forward-compatible with PS6, as it's just a streaming device.

Then there is also cloud-streaming through PS+ Premium, which removes the need for a console, though at a cost. But that shouldn't be a big issue as GamePass is being used as a pro for PC handheld as well.
